I want Volumetric/isosurface objects and boolean logic.
Had this in PovRay more than 10 years ago already and loved it.
Thread: how high is V4.2 ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Fortunately, there is the scale dial.
8/8.6 = 0.93 with sufficient acuracy.
This of coure can be used also in the opposite direction: the Poser owners can be so sloppy because there IS the scale dial.
Thread: how high is V4.2 ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
1 - Pose the figure with feet flat on the ground, as if being measured.
then
2 - create a sphere (default Poser primitive) and scale it to the size of a wallnut (or smaller for greater accuracy).
3 - use translation dials to move up, down etc. to measure in the unit you selected in preferences.
Thread: Poser 10 Working with a fully morphed Fig... how do I simplify this? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Make sure the figure is in zero pose and export the geometry into a .obj. Then make a copy of the original Hiro .cr2 and change the name of the geometry file to that of the exported file. (occurs twice! change both occurrrences!)
You now should have your modified geometry 'native' in your new figure and you do not ave to carry all those morph injections around.
Thread: Dawn's Impact on the Poserverse. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Support for a figure can be native or converted.
There are now pretty good tools for converting clothing (wardrobe wizard, Xdresser) tools in Poser itself (fitting room, cloth room, magnets) and hair (HCS, own magnet setc). Poser comes with tools to tune the results (morph painter). Choice of tools for a job depends on model at hand, result required and time available. The algorithms used in these tools get better all the time and the growing computation power we all have at hand allows better conversions in acceptable time.
Recent arrival on the conversion market is texture transformer. Technology appears to work for V4->Dawn conversions and conversion to Roxie and others is announced.
Universal poses have been around in Poser for a while, but the feature needs updating to allow for differences in hierarchy. Dawn is much more segmented than previous figures for example, and Roxie has bettern hand articulation. I expect someone will pick this up and make a PoseConverter that takes V4 poses and chews them into Dawn, Roxie, or whatever figure on demand poses using the features of the target figure in an intelligent way, distributing the bending over the added body parts and, who knows, making adjustments for the morphs that are set, so 'hand on hip' places hand closer to centre for further away depennding on the value of the 'skinny' and 'queen size butt' FBM.
All this makes the support for a figure issue is less pressing or important than it was before.
First difficulty in conversion is the correct interpretation of the donor data. When the donor is standard, conversion is easier. V4 may have her problems as a figure, but at least she is a de-facto standard for supporting content and that is how I think she will stay with us for a long time and why it is still safe to invest in development of content for her. Maybe not to be ued in conjunction with the V4 figure itself, but converted to whatever figure is en vogue at the time.
For successful development of new figures I think developers must focus on getting support of the conversion tools.
This will hopefully open the market for native 'other' figures: Gnomes shaped, rigged and tuned to represent a gnome and not an ideal adult morphed and scaled to proportions of a gnome; old hags shaped, rigged and tuned to represent an old hag in all respects and not an ideal adult morphed to look like an old hag but bending with the skin flexibility of a teenager, and so on.
Just my 5 cents.
Thread: Silo modeler on sale for $109... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So we have:
Smith Micro: version 2.2 @ USD109.- (http://mysmithmicro.com/marcom/eblasts/Silo/20131106/A/index-web.html)
Steam: Version 2 @ EURO 54.99 http://store.steampowered.com/app/100400/
That is a factor 2 in price. Is there a significant difference in features or performance?

maybe try your luck here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1152450
Someone made the model on the frontpage. Anyway sounds like the place to go hunting for a submarine nut with 3D interests.
Otherwise: there's plenty of images from a U-boat engine room on the web. Set one as background, add a few shadow catcher cubes and cylinders. It may bring you a long way.
Thread: Possible to Rename Material Zones? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Note that your geometry definition (.obj file) will still refer to the old names, so you will have to do the rename trick there also.

Thread: Making a new Female Base Model? Don't want to disappoint? Checklist. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - AFAIK, Antonia is under the creative commons license but also under attribution, so you just need to notate your derivates properly and there should be no issue.
Correct. The figure and the rigging are free to use and to distribute. This is actually encouraged. There is a limit on the skin texture by Saintfox that came with Antonia Standard and the WM version. The readme's describe it all quite well. The V3 mapped version of course opens up a wealth of skin textures.
Thread: Who wants a 3D figure with integrated genitals? Post for a Yes. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
P5 Judy was fully equipped bust she never gained much applause. A female with modeled genitalia and bones/morphs to depict natural variation and 'state changes' is one thing. Natural fold/unfold of the skin in the groins and natural reaction to leg motions is something else. If you can ensure the latter, with proper flattening of the butt when bending the legs: a 5!
Thread: V4 to Dawn / Dawn to V4 Converter? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I add a rough posefile to get started.
Load Dawn, Load a V3 conforming clothing, do not conform the clothing but aply the pose to it. Tweak if necessary (the fit of the arms looks horrible but works) In the pose room make a new fit, do not zero the clothing, but zero Dawn, and fit fit.
No guarantee whatsoever, but it works for me.

The issue of content and program matching has been up a few times before.
I recall a hint for the Poser team someone made: Separate the program updates from the content updates. Bring a program update with new functionality every other year as it is now, and then halfway between issue new content characters making full and stunning use of the facilities the other year. This would permit the content developers and the community to get used to the new functions and for their work take advantage of the a stable platform after the inevitable service releases. For the Poser program the content release would mean a good occasion for a mid-term rally.
Thread: Marvelous Designer 3 Beta | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Official Poser scale is 8.6' in one Poser unit. Figure designers tend to scale their figures at 8' to a Poser unit, so when you use the 100% scale export your figure in MD will be 8.6/8 = 1.075 times too large. Now this does not sound serious, but a female figure intended to be an average 1.68 m tall becomes 1.075*1.68 = 1.81 m tall.
This does not matter as long as you just use MD to make clothes 'as fitted'. However if you work to real life examples fom for example Burdastyle you suddenly need to scale the patterns.
I suggest therefore to use export from Poser at a slightly reduced scale of 93%, and fit the clothes to that. Then if you choose the 1 Poser unit = 8' export scale, you will get a nice fit. If you used a full scale avatar, you will need to use the 8.6' export scale.
