You can make the scuba guy one figure very easily by just renaming the pz3 file to a cr2 then use cr2edit in the funstuff utilities section to remove the lights, ground and universe. Now he'll be a character you can then put in a library. The only problem is, if you try and save him back into the figure library you'll have to save him as a pz3 and do the process again.
Thread: Two ways to do combined figures-both have problems-need advice | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes plus I've tried the pz3 to cr2 approach and have had two big oproblems. One is the character comes back all weird like they are in a funhouse mirror. Secondly, the clothes don't conform as well as if they are part of the mesh. That's my biggest reason for combining to begin with. I don't want Wonder Woman's jubblies to pop out of her suit when she's slugged by some villain. Maybe they do but I don't :)

Well #2 works if you can stand going back into the cr2 after making a change and reinserting the figureresfile commands. Since I do things like combine the bikini top with the model, the morph targets work the same anyway. I do see your point though about the custome figs, especially if you're doing odd ones like fantasy figures. Just adjusting elf ears on the obj saves much more space than actually adding a morph target. Hopefully some experts can chime in on this.
Thread: in .CR2 language, how can a body part read its geometry from a file? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In the actor definition section at the top of the file where you'll see lines like actor hip:1 { storageOffset 0 0 0 geomHandlerGeom 13 hip } The line with geomHandlerGeom tells poser to use the hip object in the obj file last loaded by figureresfile. You can actually intermix figureresfile commands, draw objs from different files. The only problem is, once you save out the figure, Poser clobbers those lines and records only the two original resfile lines. Hope this helps.

I've had this happen as well. I was able to get back up by installing poser somewhere else and copying the poser.rsr file and most of the root files over. Also delete the pref files in your poser prefs directory under runtime. They get corrputed as well. This means you'll have to set up some prefs but no big whoop. Also, sometimes rebooting does not clear the system. Sometimes you have to completely shut down and restart. File corruption is another cause. Try defragging your harddrive and running the check disc app. What can happen (in win95/98 apps) is temporary stuff remains in the swap file area when an app crashes. when the app starts up, the swap file still has the corrupted data and tries to load that. Since that caused your crash it bombs back out. Also, that zoom problem is something I found is tied to the display ground shadow setting. Turn the ground shadow option off. That should help your zoom crash bug. You should NOT have to reinstall all of Poser.
Thread: Shadow casting question regarding the ground plane. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One trick I found has some success is to use trhe ground plane but assign it a high translucency. You can barely see the plane but it receives a shadow thereby displaying it on background art. The only problem is trhe ground plane has to be around 80%. Anymore will not allow the shadows to render. This works for the light casts shadows. I really wish Poser would do the display shadow in the final render. Makes creating Diablo style game figures far easier since the shadows don't have to be done in a second pass.

I don't use compose. I'll check it out. Hopefully the compose route is less tedious. I was thinking of writing an app to do this. I use 3d studio to combine the meshes and codewrite to edit the cr2 and obj for adding the associations.
