Thread: Internet Hacking Notice! | Forum: Community Center
Citi issued me a new account, and even overnighted it to me because I was leaving on vacation. They were very helpful.

Kamiliche, are you sure it was stolen online? As others have pointed out, there are many ways to steal a credit card... To everyone's 2cents worth on this subject, I add another; IF you are going to shop online with a credit card, use one who is security paranoid. CitiBank watches like a hawk for certain 'behaviors' and warns you if they think fraud has occured, both on and offline. Last month I had bought several items, small ones, from R'osity and Barnes&Noble, on several consecutive days, and some the the Barnes&Noble transactions were broken into seperate charges because I bought out of print books from two dealers and books from the main b&n. Add in three small charges to r'osity when I spotted new items in the store and it must have set the security software off. You know, small, multiple transactions to the same source. Citi notified me and suggested I cancel the account, which I did. Now what makes me nervous as hell is sites like B&N and amazon that store your credit card data and can bring it up for future orders so you don't have to go to the 'bother' of re-entering your card data.

Ooooh, Dr Zik, how about making that available to us after you write it? I'm always looking for more pointers about these programs, being a complete nubie. Sometime I'm goint to write a 'tutorial' called 'troubleshooting' about some common nubie problems that are sort of glossed over or not covered in the poser manual. Like when you add a new object to your libraries and poser doesn't like it, giving you the 'out of memory' error.

I write; I am actually principally a writer rather than an artist. More skill in the former than the latter : ) I do novels and novelettes for fun, mostly scifi/fantasy, and mostly for my own enjoyment, though I used to contribute to a SF fanzine some years ago. And my college English department tried to recruit me at the end of my freshman year because of my 'talent.' Having heard how one of my friends who WAS and english major was treated because she wanted to write mostly SF, I stayed WAAAAY away from them. SF isn't 'real literature,' you know. A lot of the pics I'm doing right now are 'illustrations' for a story I'm working on; if I ever get a personal webpage up I'll post the story. I have enjoyed trying to get the story across in artistic form rather than the written word. It's a completely different kind of 'composition' and a different kind of storytelling. My father was a writer, a historian; mostly WW II histories, plus a couple biographies, and actually got one of his books published. I have the manuscripts for three others and occasionally have thought about putting them up on the Web. I also have to write as part of my job; I produce newsletters for two work related groups. When I'm in the right groove I get a lot of compliments. One gal who does a LOT of volunteering says our newsletter is the only one she reads for recreation as well as information. Which I consider a great compliment.
Thread: What is with B-Bay and their order process | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Mason, Just give Sherry a call and she'll set you up ASAP. The most hassle-free way of getting set up. Like you I was originally annoyed at their order process, but once you've made the first purchase you are verified and buying from them is just as easy as anyone else. Just like in the 'real' world some merchants have their quirks on how they handle things. For instance, at the game store I shopped at, if you had a credit card declined, you could then only pay for that purchase with cash. No whipping out another credit card, no checks. Cash only. I never figured that out, other than the fact that it is anti-fraud. On the other hand, as a former retail clerk, I'd remind everyone that when they insist you pull out your ID for a check or credit card, it's not only for their protection, it's for YOURS. I'm very uneasy now about all the stores that once you are in their 'system' you don't have to present ID on checks. Ya gotta know that the thieves know all the stores that have lax security. On the other hand, I want to tell you all a GOOD story about the basic honesty of folks. I work for a botanic garden, and we have several big plant sales every year. We probably take in over 500 checks each year, and I've worked there for 10 years. We do NOT take ID because I have volunteers running our cash registers, rather than regular sales clerks, and it's hard enough to train them as it is. Guess how many checks I've had bounce in that time? Out of over 5000 checks? Eight. And three of them were situations where a checkbook had been stolen and the account closed, and two of the people called me before I even knew the checks had bounced and made good on them AND added the bounced-check fee our bank charged to boot.
Thread: Exporting terrains? | Forum: Bryce
No, I want to export meshes of individual modeled terrains as an obj. Both the Bryce manual, the form FAQ's, and the bryce 4 book I have say it's possible.

Thread: Pixel count? | Forum: Community Center
Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I DO want to buy CorelDraw eventually, but till then something freeware or shareware to get around the Photoshop header problem is appreciated : ) Might want to include that little tidbit about Photoshop in your newbies column, Iornbear. Save someone from the frustration I went through yesterday with the stupid thumbs : )
Thread: Pixel count? | Forum: Community Center
Grimace. Ouch. This 3 D hobby keeps getting more expensive all the time. What application do I need? Something like CorelDraw or one of the other painter programs? Or does someone know a freeware program I can use to open a jpg from photoshop? After shelling out for Poser, Bryce, and a few necessities at the store here....my budget is looking a little sad.
Thread: Exporting Bryce Terrains? | Forum: Bryce
I'm a bryce nubie and have been having the same problem; when I select a terrain and then go to 'export object' on either the filebar or in the terrain lab it says "one of the library files cannot be found" and then asks me for something called an *.ht" file. I made a simple setting for my poser characters but since I am still having trouble with the Materials Lab and importing Poser characters I want to send its components (terrains) over to Poser and reassemble them there till I figure out what is going ON!!!! in Bryce's doubtless wonderful, but incredibly complex, materials lab. I'll check out the links mentioned on this page, maybe they'll help...meanwhile, might as well get extra bang for my buck and put the sceene I composed on the Bryce forum....look for 'The Bathing Pool' over in the gallery. And if you don't mind nudes, check out the male pinup by the same name in the poser gallery.... Goldfire
