Subject: Trouble uploading image thumb

Goldfire ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2001 at 12:21 PM ยท edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 1:18 AM

Hi! I'm trying to upload my first image to the gallery, but it keeps telling me the thumb height is wrong. I've tried resampling the photoshop image of the thumb several times, in the pixel size specified; I tried thumbs of 50x50, 200x200 and a couple sizes in-between, and keep getting the 'thumb height must be between 50 and 200 pixels message'. Oh, I also made sure that 'save thumbnail' was off in photoshop.

I'm guessing that the thumb isn't square and when it resamples, that it keeps it proportionate and one falls outside the limits each time--either too small or too large. I'm not sure what you mean by 'save thumbnail' in PS since I don't use it--wave the thumb and then browse to its file. Save a .jpeg that has 200 x 200 dimensions and is less than 15kb (I think) in size. Check both dimensions--I just uploaded a thumb w/o any problems. However, I do remember getting that message when one of my dimensions was several pixels over 200--like 204. Diane

heyas; make sure you put the thumbnail pic in the thumbnail slot (which is the second one, i believe, not the top one, as would make a certain amount of sense... ;) ), and the image in the image slot. if you switch the two, you get that message. also, the gallery thing doesn't seem to like to upload from urls. make sure you upload from your hard drive.

Ah, this is what I was looking for. I find that in both sites (both here and over at the Commune) there are no clearly marked instructions for uploading the thumbnail. I've just spent the past hour searching over both sites for instructions or guidelines for posting to the galleries and neither site has this information posted, or if they do, it's not where it can be found. It's been a long time since I've posted an impage to the gallery and I couldn't find the instructions for the allowed size of thumbnail. It would be helpful if the rules for posting images to the gallery was easy to find. Maybe an intro page before the gallery could make it easier for those of us who don't post often enought to remember, or for newbies who have never done it before. Melanie

LOL, that should have said "image" not "impage." :) Melanie

Thanks. That helps. I expected to find it outside before actually going in to try to upload something. Maybe there needs to be a guidelines page somewhere. Anyway, I've uploaded my image and it worked. Thanks again for the help. Melanie

Wizzard said: (makes note for "new people" forum idea Bear has..) Russell says, don't use < or > in a message. It gets sucked up like HTML. :)
