Thanks All. I have to tell you that things seem to be moving awfully fast--I only completed training for this a half-an-hour ago... Alpha--I blush. Jordy--You are right. Had I known who was moving in to the house next door, I would have burned it down, but since I didn't it is only polite to admit that I know him :D. Um...what ARE tinted monos, anyway? Misha: As soon as I find out what tinted monos are, I will send out the Render Border Patrol, to make sure Jordy stays put :D. Bsteph--no idear, yet. Ask me again in a few weeks. As a knee-jerk response: I have this horrible fantasy that on some dark day, I will accidentally hit the delete thread button :-0. Bonbon--Drat, why didn't I think of a princess wave, guffaw. Too funny. Here is what Alpha and I do to communicate: Since our windows don't line up, we leave stuff in the driver's seats of our cars. Bizarre, eh? So, here is the history of communication: face-mail, smoke signals, drums, semaphore, telegraph, crystal sets, telephone, e-mail, instant messenger, car seat. What IS the world comin' to? Artax--hmmmm. Corporal punishment. Interesting idea! If anyone is uncomfortable about me, or what to expect from me, please say so, and I will write up my personal philosophy about any or all of this. Otherwise, thank you all. I am delighted to be here and I look forward to working with you all. Sue
Thread: IR Photography Comparison | Forum: Photography
Hey Magnum, nice to meet ya. I played with IR filters on my CP990, when I had it, but it had a hotmirror, which made things kinda tough--wicked long exposures, even in bright sun, you know? Did they take the hot mirror out for the 995? Now I have a different digital, and two IR filters, an 091 and an 093. The 093 is opaque whereas the 091 is very dark red. Not sure where the 88a fits in this scheme, but I could go look it up... May I ask how you manipulated the IR image in the computer, if at all? My new digicam does not have a B&W mode, so I shoot IR in color and then "fix it up" in my image editor... Cheers!

Antoonio 1. I looked through your galleries. Damn fine stuff. 2. About this contest--are they judging individual pieces, or the pieces as a set, or the artist, as exemplified by his pieces? It seems to me if it's the first or last case, then you might make some different choices...but if it's the intermediate case, then you should probably stick by your choices. Sue

Thanks guys. The technique is: 1. prowl around shallow streambeds, 1 to 3 hours before dark on sunny days. 2. Take pictures. Success rate is probably 1 or 2 in 40, in part because you are matching shutter speeds to wave speeds, and still trying to have enough DOF whilst shooting oblique to a surface. Don't be afraid of filters. 3. Photoshop to taste. The only rules is to use no rules; do as you damned well please. This was cropped, contrast masked, heavily sharpened, and had levels and curves and saturation shoved around with gay abandon. Antoonio--I shoot with digital the way I always wanted to shoot with film. There is no penalty for experimentation. I have recently considered going back to film because: a. I know more about what I am doing after shooting an estimated 12000 frames this year, and b. the Canon EOS 1v is reputedly an exceptionally nice camera. But it ain't happenin' anyway. Sue 4. When you like it, stop. Sue
