I hadn't heard about Epson actually replacing printers. Was that on rec.photo.digital? I've never been able to duplicate the orange shift problem. Supposedly, it only affects prints dried in high ozone, and I'm pretty much ozone free. You're right about alternate papers, some are really beautiful, although longevity data isn't availiable. I like Arches cold pressed, and usually cut my own down from watercolor sizes. Osprey Giclee is becoming a favorite of mine. I've never been a Luminos fan. Sommerset Velvet is curiously compelling. Ciao! Joe

Have a look at the Wilhelm Research website for some interesting comparisons between the fading of Epson, HP, Canon, and IBM. Wilhelm does accelerated life testing (really bright lights which simulate in a few weeks, years of display in a well lit area). Epson is the undisputed champ (24+ year prints, comparable to a photograph or a watercolor painting), HP's best combination of paper and ink will last 4-5 years. Canon and Lexmark tie for last, the best either can do (under well lit display conditions) is less than a year. The Epson 2000P is a whole new ball game, print life over 100 years (maybe over 200). Even with accelerated life testing, it takes a while to get data on that kind of timeframe. If you want some incredible photo quality, go for an Epson 870 or 1270. If you want to do some stunning B&W work, have a look at the Epson 1160 with a quad black inkset, such as Lysonic E, for 100+ year B&W fine art prints.
Thread: Web Ring taken over by Yahoo! ?? :( | Forum: Community Center
I'm beginning to dislike Yahoo! They haven't screwed up my eGroup yet, but they pulled a fast one on me this weekend. They switched my privacy settings (without my consent) to turn on junk mail delivery. This morning, I've got "Yahoo! Delivers" spam from such fine places as Jiffy Lube. I changed my settings back. Well, Yahoo!, first one's free... I may end up moving my list to a private server, just to protect my group members from "Yahoo! Delivers".

What's going wrong with the egroups? Mine still work. Actually, the e-groups takeover of onelist.com (where i originally created my group) was the big disaster. Lost members, dupilcate mails by the hundreds, moderators accounts frozen for days. Havent noticed a glitch with the Yahoo thing. Maybe I'm the exception.
Thread: Linux? X Windows? | Forum: Poser Technical
Poser was written with MertoWerks tools, probably using the PowerPlant class libraries and application framework. This means that you create a program for the Mac, and with a few minor tweeks, it becomes a Linux program. A few more minor tweeks, and it becomes a Linux program. Problem with BeOS is it isn't supported by the MetroWerks tools. It's really wxWindows too bad that wxWindows that there isn't wxWindows a robust class library wXwindows that can be used to port from Windows to Mac wXwindows to Linux to BeOS wXwindows. But I don't wXwindows know where you'd wXwindows get such a tool. p.s. Linux has been running in a Windows FAT partition since long before BeOS was free or could coexist with Windows. Ciao! Joe

Rendorisity always requests the thumbnails be resized to a standard size, no matter what this does to the original aspect ration. I believe a minor change to the HTML tags will allow resizing to a certain box, while maintaining the original aspect, but HTML isn't my strong point.

Tell me about it. I just got back from two days in Pliladelphia. It was supposed to be one day in Philly, then a short flight to Ithaca, but Tuesday we couldn't get into New York, and we couldn't even get out of Philadelphia to go home. Back in Detroit!!!!! Joe

That's it! That's the color scheme that works. Visited forums and "no new messages" in the same color. Not visited forums and "xxx unread messages" in the same color. Then, when you see mismatched colors, you've got messages on a forum that you visit. Ciao! Joe

Jack, Perhaps we both need to take a deep breath. ;-) I think you're reading way too much into this, or I'm not expressing myself clearly (which has been known to happen). If I had a problem with you, I would already be gone, or organizing a rebellion. I'm neither ;-) Anything I've said was meant as advice. Friendly advice. If I hurt your feelings with the "effect your sense of humor" comment, I am sorry. I love word plays, and that accidental one struck me as much funnier than your original joke. My tolerance for ethnic jokes is very low, having had so many Polish jokes thrown at me in the past. Ciao! Joe

I use it constantly. It's one of the best features. Perhaps no one uses it because few other forum software packages have it... Now, why are the new item counts red, all of a sudden? Red and green and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... Ciao! Joe

"I posted it where I wanted to because, honestly, I prefer to offer something other than the US vs THEM bullshit that has been plaguing both forums." It's my ball, we'll play by my rules? For the record, neither of my posts were to "defend" Jack. They were both basically warnings. (Although one can make the point that warning someone of a danger is "defending" them). First, about the posibility of hacked accounts (very real, by the way, have a look at the nasty "hackers" thread in the "complaint" forum). Second warning, about the need for an administrator to be above board, to make sure the rules are fair, and to lead by example, following those rules. The quality of a leader is that they never say "do as I say, not as I do". I don't particularly care what kind of jokes Jack makes over in the "Tavern". But the rule (Jack's rule) is that they don't belong in the "Forum News and Team Contacts". If anyone else had done that, the thread would have been moved. Instead, we get "I posted it where I wanted to". I know, it's Jack's house, and he can post it wherever he wants it. I don't need my nose rubbed in it. There is a heck of a difference between trying to humerously diffuse a thread that is getting too hot, and what Jack has done. Ciao! Joe

Jack, I am truely sorry, but I don't know how to "effect" your sense of humor. But I assure you, I am sufficiently "lightened up" to appreciate your accidental word play. (actually, I found it orders of magnitude funnier than your ethnic joke). Perhaps you should concentrate on those facets: the clever turn of phrase, the double entendre, the Freudian slip, or even the Spoonerism. Please remember one thing: in the "Forum News and Team Contact" forum, you're "on". Here is where you have to take the high road. In the "Tavern" forum (as Bloodsong suggests), you can kick back, take your virtual shoes off (but for Gdd's sake, change those virtual socks), and crack as many jokes as you like. Also remember that the reputation of the managment of the other forum was, indeed, seriously damaged over an incident that a moderator also approached from the "it's just a joke" POV. Ciao! Joe
