I found the entire area absolutely amazing. :-) We did indeed pass Estes Park, and my sister pointed out the hotel to me on the way there. :-)

I have to agree with you on that - one of the troubles with lighting images with lots of mirrors. I did my best to minimize it (it was a lot worse before), but I couldn't get rid of it entirely.

I'm kind of curious as to what a 'street portrait' entails. It may or may not be something I have the opportunity to do. :-)

All three of these photos have been extraordinary, Syyd, in composition, coloring, and - by no means least - the subject matter. I can't help but agree that you have some beautiful children. Malenchite

Welcome to the realm of R'osity photography, pokeydots. I agree that this is a great place for us amateurs. I've gotten lots of good feedback on my images here. Beautiful shot, by the way! Animals always tend to run away from me before I get close enough. :-) Malenchite

BESIP is the Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship Program - a small internship program for undergrads at the National Institutes of Health. Among other things, we get to stay in a hotel for 10 weeks. :-)

What an extraordinary 'power of nature' image. Thanks for showing it here - I surely would have missed it otherwise.

Be sure to look out for some of my BESIP Summer posts, then. :-) As for 'lowly intern work', I managed to land a pretty good deal in a small lab. Which means I actually did important stuff! As a matter of fact, I even managed to convince them to buy some graphics programs so I could make the data prettier. :-)
Thread: Saying Hi from an old computer with no USB... | Forum: Photography
Thanks for the advice, all, Unfortunately, my camera is currently set up for USB only. And, being the poor college student that I am and right before I start my summer internship, I have no spare money lying around. :-( Malenchite

FYI - NIH is the National Institutes of Health. I got a summer internship there with free room and board and $4000 extra to boot, and a nice new box on my resume for when I apply to grad school at Duke next year... okay, I should stop thinking about that now. Still have the rest of this semester to get through... Malenchite

Heya, I think this would be a really incredible and unique thing to do - and like you said, it would be a memory you'd never forget. Make my vote an 'aye,' and congratulations while I'm at it. :) Malenchite

That bottom glow on the picture was one of the inspirations for taking it - a lot of the more artistic buildings around campus are lit at night by ground-level spot lights. The treatment was pretty simple - after initial brightness/contrast and color balancing, I desaturated it, adjusted brightness/contrast some more and added a very slight orange hue to it with hue/sat. The grain is, simply enough, done purely with the Noise -> Dust/Scratches filter. Malenchite

Alpha, That sounds really awesome... I'll have to see if the church is open to the public at some point. If not, maybe I can do some similar thing with the outside window... hmmm... Anyway, I'm off to take some night shots in thick fog (!) - the timing is perfect. I'll put them up soon. :) Malenchite
