Hey folks,
So with the code up in github, that might be a good place to publish those. If I get some free time, I can probably export to PDF and dump there, or if someone gets to it earlier, branches, and adds a pull request. There's also a wiki available, but haven't explored the permissions there.

DCG Importer is out. You can download the demo or check it out at

It will import sequenced OBJ versions of anything the built in Wavefront OBJ importer will do. By only keeping one frame in memory at a time, it lets Carrara handle large or long running animations.

It won't let the texture be part of the SSS calculation, but you can then mix a texture with what Carrara comes up with. So if you're trying to knock out portions of the SSS or change it in some way, you can use a texture. Very handy for putting that paper label on the outside of a candle kind of texturing problem. Attached is a sample image.
Click on the platform/version you need underneath the Try Shader Ops 2 to get the download you need.

Oops, missed your first question. I don't think Lighting Control will help with the modeled sky dome blocking GI problem. The slider on LC will let you adjust the intensity of the GI lighting for that shader, but only if it gets to the object.

If you want to remove all the light from a particular source, you can use the Restrict Lighting to function for the light. It's on the General tab/section of the properties panel.
If you want to control the specular and diffuse component individually, we offer a plug-in called Lighting Control in the Shader Plus package that lets you adjust Specular and Diffuse contributions of individual lights as part of the object's shader. You can get more details at

You're pretty much there. Just make sure the Height parameter is set to the center of your object and the Blend is about the height. Here's my shot at it.

Feed the Elevation shader into the Color Gradient so your Color Channel looks like
Color Gradient
|__Elevation
Since you're comfortable with photoshop, another option is build the color gradient there and use projection mapping to texture your text.
