Yeah I have those settings to 32 but using the diamond preset material and some spotlights it still doesn't even look like glass.
I was hoping someone had some settings for light an material I could start with to get decent render out of it even if it doesn't have "sparkles" , etc.

Yep, only thing in there was the self-extractor log placed in there after this last install
Thread: Vue 6 Inf & Win7 64 bit | Forum: Vue
The only files I found there were a Self-Extractor log for a model I installed after this last time. Unless you have the exact location to look in.
I'll probably just live with it as last night I installed a lot of stuff from the Extras disk and really don't feel like going through that again.

Well that didn't work. Uninstalled Vue6, re-installed in Program Filesx86 without update and it's still doing the same thing.
Add to that I forgot to mention that print preview simply brings up the print screen, IOW no preview.
Now what is weird is I can go to options and click Configure Poser Import and the browse button there works perfectly.

Quote - Did it install in the program filesx86 or is it in program files?
It is in just Program files note filesx86.
Peggy yes I saw that and the only problem I've had is with the above statements.
As I said I'll probably do a re-install and see if the problem persists.

Installed it as Admin and run it as Admin. Even tried compatibility mode.
I can render to disk but I have to manually enter the path, for some reason the browse buttons refuse to work.
Might have to re-install and see if the problem is there before updating to the latest version of 6.06
Thread: What am I missing? Z-depth | Forum: Vue
The cylinder is just a simple example, sure there are much easier ways to produce one for a height map. But if I couldn't produce a simple cylinder in Vue how can I produce more complicated height maps. I think you answered that in your next post, Thanks.
The reason I need these. I use a CNC-type machine (Carvewright) to carve wood/plastic which uses greyscale height maps and converts those to CNC commandds. The attached picture was created in Bryce usinf Poser and 3DHairdo, I wanted to use Poser's dynamic hair but could never get good greyscale renders out of Vue. This was straight out of Bryce, no tweaking needed. See the Carvewright will pick up EVERY pixel in the picture and carve it so it has to be very clean and smooth with good details.

Nice, apprently I have to play with it more but still that won't produce a cylinder when applied as a height map.

Yeah I read that thread and yet am not able to get that smooth an image like you did even after messing with levels for some time. All I get is worse banding or speckles. :(
In fact in the first picture is what I get with similar settings to what you had in that thread.
It's a real shame that a $100 program does something a simple as a Z-depth render better than a $700+ program. I guess I'll stick with doing this in Bryce for now.

Quote - a hand held laser, eh ? goona have to think on that one.
Milk ? ?
I wonder if it would work with beer ?? orange juice ?? motor oil ?? ooze from the swamp I drained yesterday ?? Great concept, but milk is expensive and I think I'd use a mini pump (maybe an old fish tank pump(???) ) rather than a spoon! !Anyrate - Thanks Alderon !! As usual, you give me much to think about ! !
As far as I can tell as long as the liquid has a high contrast to the object it should work. You could possibly experiment with non-liquids for less mess. Basically all it's doing is occluding the object as the milk is poured in, thus any method that would do something simlar should work. That is all theory of course :)

Quote - Even will lots of RAM I never repose in Vue, it's not very good at it IMO. As Frank said it's best to repose inside Poser because Vue will always see it as long as you have re-saved the file in Poser first.
I'm running 64bit Vue6Inf with Poser 6 and 7 and 8 Gig RAM and I always use the shader tree no problem at all!
Like Frank I always set up the scene in Poser and take it into Vue for rendering because the results are far superior and as Frank already said the lighting is also far superior to Posers!
Even if you could import Posers lights, I wouldn't!!!
Dynamic cloth comes in also with no problems!
Only problem I've had so far is with Poser 5's dynamic hair in Vue. Vue increases the size of the hair model when it renders based on altitude of objects in the scene or the altitude of the hair. Find ir very frustrating since I got Vue to import dynamic hair and cloth. :(
My work around has been to use G3D Hairdo which is made by the same person who did Grass3D, twigs, scatter, etc.

The only thing a graphics card really does is determine how many polys can be moved around on the screen, especially in OpenGL mode. Other than that it's memory and CPU which are the driving factors in how big a scene can be and rendering speed.
I have a GeForce 7950 overclocked and it runs nicely.

Not using the shader tree.
Using the Adoranal Hair Colors Vol 1 in Poser that I downloaded from the free stuff here. Which brings up an interesting thought that I should try using a default material and see if that does the same thing.
The Poser model is just a Michael 2 with dynamice hair for the beard, hair, mustache and eyebrows with the above material applied to the hair.
