Thread: Need a basic light set up for rendering with my GPU | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
RAMWolff posted at 5:04PM Thu, 07 May 2020 - #4388426
Render times are not a huge deal using the GPU for me. My last grainy render, which did finish, took no longer for me than a render in DAZ Studio so that's not going to freak me out if I have to wait an extra 10 minutes. Just want to know where I can get the scripts Amethyst was mentioning.
Also thanks to bwldrd and Ghostship for the bucket size recommendation.
I THINK I may have one of OutofTouche's products for Poser, the shaved sided hair with length on the other side.
Give me a little time and I'll package all 3 up (they all use EZSkin3 as the host and you can either use the maps that come with the hair or in BB's let it generate the whole thing)

You might have more success in Poser if you use Cycles materials rather than the Poser Root Node.

I agree Ghostships lights are good. As for hair, a lot depends on the material, most hair has way too much specular on top of having highlights burnt in. BagginsBill, Ghostship and myself have all made attempts at more realistic hair materials for superfly and I created addons for EZSkin3 to make applying them easier (all 3 result in higher render times as a trade off for better quality)

The only thing about asking for small fixes like these is that it apparently takes so long that none of the devs ever have time to do anything else.
I reiterate, because whenever you post something like this, someone will tell you about how small the Poser dev team is and how they're super busy dealing with the core program.
Then they should concentrate on exposing everything to the Python API and we will do the work
Thread: Puzzled: is there an update existing April 26th 2020, or not? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Looks like they have fixed the bug where dynamic cloth sims didn't stick if you are using a preferred scene if you didn't save the file which got broke when they fixed the same issue if you weren't using a preferred scene :)
Thread: Any way to add a different UV-set to an existing figure or prop? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If the cr2 points to an obj file you can edit that (after taking a copy!!!!) and edit the UV maps and resave, you must make sure all the verts are still in the same order and then reload and your new maps will be available, you can't do anything on the fly, I tried but the python API doesn't expose the correct functions
Thread: Search limited results in 11.3 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A little more digging and it appears that it will only return 20 items, whether assets or folders, however if I make my chrome window smaller, so that 20 cannot fit on a page, I get a scroll bar on the right hand side and moving that fetches the next batch of 20 etc. This needs fixing ASAP
Thread: Cloth Room Problem with poser 11.3 PRO VERSION | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
This is really annoying, in all other versions, provided you loaded to a preferred scene cloth sims worked, now they don't unless you save the file first!

Thread: Candle Flame Shader For Firefly... (Use Postwork Answer Is For Cowards!) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My only concern would be that the bottom of the flame seems a bit flat, is this a single plane, in which case seeing it from a different angle might be an issue, though you could still have a 90 degree billboard both with the same mat I suppose, really nice work

@JohnDoe641 do you output to Exr or Png, interested because of the clamps being set to 0
Thinking about those clamps should not lead to asking about EXR. With or without those clamps the output can exceed LDR 0-255. The clamps apply to the individual samples being accumulated for each pixel, which is an average of hopefully many samples. When you don't use enough samples to really get a good average, then a single "hot" value can easily produce a firefly. So clamping is to give up some lighting accuracy in exchange for fewer firefly artifacts. It has almost nothing to do with HDR output format.
The only reason I asked that was because of a thread back on the old SM forum where we were looking at tone mapping and that was one of the things that was mentioned to get full dynamic range in an image, I now use gimp tone mapping to rebalance some "darker" renders but to get the most out of that I need to export to EXR rather than png/jpg
Thread: Content storage method for the 2020's? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As I have my runtimes sorted by "type (Hair, Figures, Rooms, Props, materials) I would love to be able to search in just one runtime, for example Hair when looking for the pose/materials for a particular hair model, but that of course is just me, if your layout is different your mileage will vary
