Also I went to the ICC (international color Consortium) web site and installed a new "sRGB_IEC61..." file, and that did not work either.

There is one other mysterious occurrence that has happened recently. The biometric fingerprint reader which is usually active after the computer is started and can be used to log on to Windows, will not start now until after I choose a user and enter a password. (I don't know if this may be showing a problem with Windows startup) (although this appears in the startup tab of the system's configuration utility with a check mark next to it) I have updated Windows, HP software, Norton antivirus, spy bot search and destroy, ad aware, Microsoft anti-spy ware and I have also done a scan with Trend Micro's House call. The system comes up clean for viruses, Trojans, worms, and spyware. Is there anything else I can try? R

Thank you for the replies, these are some good ideas! I went to the system configuration utility, and I do not have the Adobe Gamma loader listed there. I went to the adobe.com support link, and I followed the directions up to the point where it was going to recalibrate my monitors, but the monitors are not the problem. While I was there however, I did download and reinstall the Adobe ICC profiles. It did not fix the problem. I went to the international color Consortium site at color.org and downloaded their ICC profiles, but they would not open. I searched the web@fileXT.com they confirmed that the file was from ICC but they did not explain what program to use to open it. Then I tried to open the file using Photoshop 7, it did not work. Then I uninstalled Photoshop 7 and reinstalled it using the add/remove function in Windows XP, and guess what? (That didn't work either) I keep a computer log of all the programs that I install and changes that I make, and the only other things that were done to the computer lately where: upgrade to Adobe Reader 7.0, and I bought a new Canon flatbed scanner and installed the photo studio 5.5 software that it came with. Thank you all for your help so far Randy

Thank you for your help. The video card is an ATI 9800 and as I mentioned above this is a new problem, it worked fine on this computer, with this video card, and configuration. I also stated above "I can drag the Photoshop application to either monitor and the purple problem definitely stays with Photoshop"
Does anyone know if there are any problems or conflicts with Microsoft's color control applet for Windows XP?
Has anyone had problems with PIM (print image matching) plug-in for Photoshop?
Or does anyone know of any problems of not being able to remove these completely from the computer with add/remove function in Windows XP?
I also tried a system restore, but that did not solve the problem.
Can anyone think of any other software or settings that may interfere with Photoshop's color?
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
Randy
