Thread: Call for Banners | Forum: Photography
I remember reading in this forum back when the rotating banners were implemented. In a thread someone had asked how many sets of banners they could submit and the answer was: That any member could submit up to three sets of banners per month. I can't remember when the thread was posted, but it was posted. Maybe you need to do a search?
I think 31 sets is going a bit overboard, but then again I don't submit anything here, so who am I to judge?

Thread: Focus on discipline..trained, learned, part of you? why shoot what you do? | Forum: Photography
Quote - For me it's what ever strikes me while out on a shoot. Sometimes I have pre-conceived ideas on a location that I might want to shoot, but on the way there something might catch my eye and I never make it to my intended destination. That use to kind of annoy me that I would so easily be distracted, like I had A.D.D. or something. But to my surprise some of my best stuff has been shot unexpectedly because I strayed from my original plan.
Been there, done that, completely understand where Dave is coming from here. Some of my best works are from impromptu shoots.

I have many, many interests. I try to capture what it is that draws me to a certain subject. I started out with landscapes and eventually moved into macro work. I then started shooting night shots and timed exposures because I find them fascinating. I am currently working with portraits and abstracts. Surrealism and IR photography are other things that are on my agenda photographically. There are many subjects that I work on privately until I think I have them mastered, and then I show them to a select audience to get feedback before displaying them publicly.
*I guess I need to decide what turns me on? Not likely that is going to happen. I don't always shoot what appeals to the masses, I shoot more for my own gratification. *
Do what feels good, if other people like it, that is an added bonus. Best of luck to you in your endeavors.

I like number three the best, but I also like what both Cynlee and Onslow did with this image. Losing the walkway and tightening the crop made for a better composition imo. But I also like the tones Cynlee did. Just my humble opinion of course.

Thread: Nikon D200 or new glass? Let those who know speak to me! | Forum: Photography
Tom,
I have to agree with Simon here. The price of the D200 will come down in time. Just look at any new camera and a year or so later and look at that same camera and the difference in price from when it came out. I mean you are getting the same camera, just for less $$$.
Glass is just as important as the camera. I would invest is some new quality glass for now, and when the price of the D200 is half of what it is today, buy it. I guess I am more frugal than most, I tend not to purchase something when it is brand new on the market and the price is rather steep.

As always Donald your work is gorgeous! I have visited your site a few times.. I have also been following your posts here for a few years now and you never disappoint me. My favorite shots here are the first, the lighting is what drew me in. And of course the last one here, up close and personal with Apnea is awesome. Keep em coming!

Hello MGTF,
Looked at your gallery and can see what you mean. Most of these communities are the same, if you comment and VOTE they comment and VOTE. You don't seem to be drawing the recognition you deserve that is for sure. But not sure that commenting and VOTING will bring you what you seek either.
Best of luck to you in your endeavours.

P.S. Congratulations on your PG gallery

Thread: Help..Wedding at 7 pm | Forum: Photography
Hello Soulsearcherr,
*I am assuming you are doing a traditional wedding that takes place in a church or hall? *
Using a higher ASA / ISO is recomended for darker settings, the higher the ASA/ISO the more light sensitive the film is, therefore allowing for a faster shutter speed, but with more grain. I would personally recommend using a flash and bounce it whenever possible, remember bounced light is always more flattering then light flashed directly. A diffuser for that flash is also a wise investment in case you have to flash directly, meaning bouncing the flash is not possible due to a either a dark or catherderal ceiling.
I would also visit the place where the wedding is to take place and do some test shooting recording each shot ASA/ISO, shutterspeed and aperature, this way you know what works and what doesn't, if possible take a friend with you to use as a model. It is not dark here at 7:30 is it dark there? Are you worried because the wedding is outside?
I personally like using my DSLR, this way as the wedding is progressing I can see that the images are coming out, and it helps me to relax a bit knowing this, digital is also easier for me to postwork, and I can also provide images in sepia and black and white. When shooting film and being nervous there is always the possiblitiy that you may forget to load the camera or set a setting and you won't know how they came out until they are developed.
Another little pointer, dress nice but comfortably, this way no matter what position you are in you aren't fussing with your clothes
Sometimes it also helps to work with another photographer your first few times, this way the bride isn't relying solely on your images.
I hope everything turns out for you. Keep me posted.
