Quick update for those still looking for Genesis male Gens. The Michael 5 Pro bundle is now a Fast Grab (as of January 18, 2014) at under US$40.00. This bundle does include the Gens.

Quote - There's also the Genesis Michael Victoria Combo Bundle which has the base characters, both sets of genitals and the Evolution morphs for the same price as one of the Pro bundles - depending on what you have and what you want that may be better value.
Thanks for the info. I missed that one.

Quote - Think in the pro bundle at Daz3D
Specifically, the Genesis Genitals (Sometimes called "Gens" or "Toast" - I like the last one for some reason) can only be obtained as part of the Michael 5 Pro Package or Pro Suite. No other package or item contans it, and it does not have a product page on Daz. Poison has an item at Renderotica that does a similar job for Genesis, but it's a prop/figure, not geographed. (Warning: That web site is not for the squeamish, or maybe even for the non-squeamish)
Alternately, you can go a long way with bulge morphs in clothing.
The same basic issue exists with G2M and Michael 6.
Thread: Saving Characters | Forum: DAZ|Studio
The first thing I do is make sure everything falls under the Root of the character. Some wardrobe and clothing will Fit To, but show up as a seperate item under the Scene Tab. I drag and drop them to the Genesis figure. If you do this right, you can collapse the character and everything hides away under the Gensis figure.
Second thing is I rename the figure and the props on it. For example if I create a character I decide to name Fred, I change "Genesis" to "Fred". If Fred has Valea's Pure Hair Punk, I rename "PH Punk" to "PH Punk Fred".
The Important Part: Save As Scene Subset (File -> Save As -> Scene Subet). You'll be asked to give a File Name (I usually save mine to a seperate folder), then asked what parts of the scene to save. Uncheck everything but your character and items you want to load each time with it (step 2 makes this easier).
Note. This will save the Items, Textures, Parameters, and Pose Info for the character, so consider using the neutral pose. I also usually save the character in a full Scene file since I usually have a few lights, cameras and props (Such as Spyro's MWall Prop for sizing) that I don't want to have load every time I use the character, but want if I decide to go back and make a few changes. I'll reload the full Scene, make changes and then resave the Scene and Scene Subset
From there you can catagorize them using the Content Library Tab and Work them into your Smart Content.
Thread: Using Renederosity Poser models in Daz Studio 4.5 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Newbie answer for newbie question:
Most items at Renderosity.com (as well as most Poser-esque content) can be used in Daz Studio. A few exceptions are shaders and scripts as these depend heavily on the software's engine and scripting language. Poses, props and figures usually work with little or no tweaking.
The only trick is installing and finding them. Most people distribute their stuff with in a .zip with the folder structure built in. For example the Toldi I Light by papus3d ( www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=72481 ) has a folder called Runtime, which unzips into your Daz studio My Library folder. To find it in Daz, go to your Content Library tab (not Smart Content) and look under Poser Formats -> My Daz 3D Library -> Figures -> Papus3d. The mats and add-ons (such as tools) are spread out under Pose and Props.
Some products are not distributed with the folder structure, leaving it up to you to decide where in your Runtime folder to place it.
I always open the .zip file and poke about a bit before unzipping it to figure out what's inside and where they are located.
There is a lot written about how to organize a Poser runtime folder. I'm ashamed to say, I usually just unzip into my runtime with no effort at organization.
Thread: Seeking some help with creating a skin | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Specifically there is a file already on your computer with the texture. In Daz Studio it's referred to as the Diffuse Map, other programs call it a Texture Map.
On Windows it's under your Runtime/Textures folder, but there's usually a lot of stuff in there. Also, most models have several textures for one body, ie. one file for the face, one for the torso, on for the arms/legs.
If you know who made the texture you can sometimes search your Runtime folder and find it, otherwise try this:
Load Vicky3 and apply the texture.
Select Vicky 3 and open the Surfaces Tab of Daz Studio (Main Menu ->Window -> Panes (Tabs) -> Surfaces).
Make sure the Editor tab is selected near the top of the pane (not the Presets or Shader Baker). There will be a listing of the various body parts. Click on the Torso (or closest equivalent, maybe SkinBody or something).
The file you're looking for is under Diffuse Color. There will be a color selector and a small box with a down arrow. Click on it and select Browse from the top of the list. This will open a dialog box letting you select another texture map. While you don't actually want to change anything, this will let you know exactly where the files are located. I usually go up one folder level in the open dialog and then right click and click Open In New Window, to get a new browser window.

I hope this has been more helpful than confusing. All info is based on Daz 4.6 and Windows. Your milage may vary.
Thread: Free Recent Files plugin for DS 4.6 released | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Thank you! I agree with 3dOutlaw, I'd notice that there was no 'recent files' menu from time to time, but never really thought about it.
Now if I can just find something to give renders a defaul tautoname each time... ;)
Thread: log file | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - this one comes up before 4.6 starts.
Odd that it would come up before Daz finishes starting unless you have it loading a default scene. Also, you can do a text search for "duplicate" to help find the lines. The log file is a bit wordy.
Thread: log file | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Under the main menu:
Help -> Troubleshooting -> View Log File...
Default path on hard drive (replace [User Name] with your user name):
C:Users[User Name]AppDataRoamingDAZ 3DStudio4
At least on Windows 8.
The info you're looking for will be at the end if you check it immediately after you load the object and acknowledge the duplicate ID error. I get it from some of my props and morphs. Haven't gotten around to tracking them all down. :)
Thread: Daz Studio 4.6.18 will not run | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I'm not sure, but I think that was the same error I got when I bought the Look at My Hair plug-in. In my case it turned out to be my video drivers: my update software said they were current, but they weren't. I had to manually download and install updates from Dell.
Thread: OT: BK Blocks Daz but not Rendo or RDNA | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Funny you mention it. Some other public wifi sites also block Daz3d.com. I live in a rural area and have poor internet at the house. I go into town for large downloads. When I started using Daz Install Manager (and had to do the intitial redownload) I ended up using the public library. Got some reading done. :)
Thread: Multiple Runtimes | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I have two runtimes on my system. Though I split them one folder up at the My Library level. I split it there because Daz Studio 4.5 has alot of things stored at that level, and some may reference to specific folders. I'm not sure about that last part, though.
Some people keep numerous runtimes (or libraries), sorting them based along different preferences.. I keep one with everything I use consistantly, such as Genesis, etc. The other is for items that i grab for a specific scene, but won't use again. I have a friend who splits along theme, with one for key items such as M4/V4, one for fantasy, one for sci-fi, etc.
I would recommend against having a seperate runtime for each 'type' of item though, since these are seperate one level down for Poser
The key is to let Daz Studio know where the different content is. Use the Content Directory Manager. There are a lot of ways to get there, but the easiest to describe is:
Main Menu -> Preferences -> Content Library tab -> Content Directory Manager...
Under current sets, make sure to include paths to your the folder your Runtime folder sits in, not the Runtime folder itself. Do this for Daz Content and Poser Content. For example mine are:
C:UsersPublicDocumentsDAZ 3DStudioMy Library
C:ProgramDataDAZ 3DMy DAZ Library
C:UsersDSDDocumentsDAZ 3DStudioTemp Library
You might have others for some plugins such as Reality already installed.

On a related note, there's an old script for Daz Studio by Delta X15 (http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=295560) that brings up a dialog box showing the the objects size in all three dimensions. It can switch between various Metric and American units.
The two major limitations is that it shows the size of an object at its widest, ie a character in the default 'Cross-Pose' has a width of over 5 feet. To get specific node width, you have to select only that node. Also, I don't think it adjust for angle, so a two meter person laying at a 45 degree angle would be reported as having a 'height' of about 141cm along the Y axis.
Still, very handy, for a six year old script. I keep it as a custom action on my toolbar. :) Orgininally heard about it in a Daz Forum (See: http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=3414212)

Thread: Metadata for Renderosity Products | Forum: DAZ|Studio
WOW! Iwas not trying to start a whole debate on the merrits or disadvantages of Metadata. (For the record, I'm in favor of it. Having the computer keep track of what objects a pose or material applies to is better for me. If you don't like it, don't use it ... like seatbelts! )
What I was trying to do, was look at a way that those of who do use Metadata could find a way to share high-quality Metadata files for existing products that do not already have it.
Any suggestions along those lines would be very helpful. Maybe a particular tag on ShareCG.com or something?
