AT image is rendered with GR. I always use GR. twice as large is actually a good idea: Hm, i read that also from ILM, they render 6000x4000 Size - but i can't see any significant changes after scale down after the huge rendertime.
Yes the the huge Rain Forest Trees are MP with a Real Photo, but you need a quality Render in VUE that can use for this MP and images like in my first post are unsuitable for this...
photographs of trees in Vue i have not tried, good idea - they need Alpha-Channel!?
my dune use the default VUE Sand - I think i will do this outside VUE with a geometry and a texture and camera projection.
My question is a general knowledge: We will produce a SiFi-Film (Video, FULL HD with a Canon 7D) next time and i have to create a (far way) Planet Landscape with several shots for this. The Actors are on a stony, rocky mountain with GreenScreen in background to replace with VUE Terrain - i hope.
I will take a HDRI Image on Set to render all CG with Physical HDRI Light. I do this all time for CG Outtdoorshots in Lightwave with perfect results.
@ShawnDriscoll:
texture AA to 100% you mean Anti-Aliasing with 100% - uuuh :mellow: .
Your last section i don't understand - i will use procedural terrain for this, so what scale do you mean - Sky, Clouds?
I think the default Materials i VUE are not for this kind of High-Res Images. Some Bumps and Textures have 512x512 Resolution, thats the main reason for the grainy Foreground.
@volter
I can recommend all Tutorials at geekatplay as great overview and workflow, i bought the FX-DVD last Year, but now it's out of my focus, because i need advanced render results.
VUE is not easy to create realistic images, and sorry the render engine in VUE it's terrible....
Thread: How to create realistic Terrains and Landscapes | Forum: Vue
Okay, thanks for the hints. The picture above is NOT from me, but my looks same grainy and pixelated at Dune foreground and Atmosphere.

@silverblade33
Very good tutorials on your site, but i think that is not the important keypoint. Please Render your image from the "RENDER SETTINGS FOR VUE" up and show 1200 Pixel and it looks also grainy and pixelated..... subrays-Settings are marginal.

QuadSpinner Tutorial: also very interesting - i have two of his series - but look at this example render with perfect Lights - the Tree - **grainy and pixelated.

@Teruchan:
.... meaning very high res photos for all things.... Yeah, I fear it - the default Materials and Trees of VUE aren't suitable for High Resolution Images.
What i expect in VUE is this Quality (Terragen 2 Image)

I browse the VUE Renderosity-Galery and can't find any 100% realistic Image like that.

Thread: Vue Newbie needs tuts. | Forum: Vue
Quote - lots of various tuts, General Vue Tips, Lighting tips etc etc
It's a bit more technical, but for realism, please read my dirt mapping tutorial once you're used to Vue, ti makes a HUGE difference to realism :)
The tuts are nice - but this little stamp of pictures - you see nothing special nothing different. Are this picture anywhere in big size?
Thanks

Its alsoย not really very practical to say, "hey, im doing a picture, its nothign like this one, butย I want good atmospheric settings."you asked "but when you look at this picture does anyone identify this as realisitic picture? Why not? "
We answered.
I don'tย asked for a screenshot of the setup, my question was a general.
This picture (correct link here now) has a complete different and realistic look as i seen from VUE. All VUE-Tutorials on the web don't show such realistic pictures as result. You are also not able to get this results with post like photoshop, etc. The blur is because it is a screenshot from a movie sequence with active blur.
So i believe this quality is not possible with "normal VUE" or with "normal" Trees. I also believe this spotlight pictures from e-on are rendered in VUE xStream with mental ray oder RenderMan and NOT with the internal VUE-Render.
Thread: Atmosphere Setup for Composting with Live Footage | Forum: Vue
Okay, thanks all.
But my problem is not the size of the castle-windows or the blending,ย this was just a fast mask in AfterEffects for testing. Also the castle is stupid - i write above: ...final to build burning cottages at the left site on the footage. All others are TESTS.
When you take a look at the picture of Cherryman - i get this results too. But this are not realistic.
Again: My problem is a describe above - how to get **natural Trees, Grass and Rocks.
What is the important settings and light for results like this VUE 6 example.**
http://mirror-eu.e-onsoftware.com/showcase/spotlights/ILM/images/texture.jpg
Okay - i hope everyone see the difference
Thread: Atmosphere Setup for Composting with Live Footage | Forum: Vue
Hmm, very nice idea to rebuild my footage scene. My intention is at final to build burning cottages at the left site on the footage - the follow are just rendertests.
Your rebuild composition is perfect - but when you look at this picture does anyone identify this as realisitic picture? Why not?
This is exactly my problem, it is not the color of the light - it is the very fine unreal structure of the trees and grass and the painted look of the rock.
Take a look at this e-on spotlight picture from a VUE 6 project - this don't work with my shoot, but it is realistic!ย Don't look at the hole terrain composition - the important think are the natural trees and rocks.
http://mirror-eu.e-onsoftware.com/showcase/spotlights/ILM/images/texture.jpg
Here is another rendertest i working on:
So my problem is to get natural trees and rocks....
ps: HDRI images is IMHO not the solution, all i read is to render GR - radiosity rendering Light
Thread: Atmosphere Setup for Composting with Live Footage | Forum: Vue
Thanks 4 this hint.
I have bought the entire CD some month ago :rolleyes: This tutorials shows always the workflow, but not the way to get realistic Images as output.
I have spend many times, but i don't find out the right settings.
Realistic means for me: only i know what is LIVE footage and what is from VUE.
I need something like this quality:

or this

I am sure that ILM has paid E-On for the development of a custom Vue build based upon ILM intellectual property which is able to do things that in no way we can hope to duplicate with the openly available version.
That means:
it is not possible to render Pictures in the current Vue for include in RealWorld Movies? :unsure:
I don't think so. Why should E-On this do? I think the workflow and the best settings in Vue and the Workflow or Postproduktion are important AND also one big Point from the Indiana Jones 4 Story:
"...The images were 4000-5000 pixels wide...." :blink:
I have never try this. Render BIG pictures and scale them down! The pictures of all the tutorials are terrible, because they are Render only broadcast to 800*600.....
The best theme: Vue & Realism for the New tutorial section :biggrin:
