I don't think Reality can do much to solve fireflies. Fireflies are a rendering artifact in Luxrender..

You'll need to let it render longer, sometimes scenes require thousands of Samples/pixel. I've had scenes render for 2 days before I was satisfied. :)

That's a lovely candle, the amount of translucence looks just right to me.

Had intended to do a bit more tweaking and to use a crf, but my wife closed luxrender before it was finished.. :p

Already looks quite good though, using ODF's skin, couldn't get Snarly's skin to work on the dark skin.

Can't you just start the render on the machine you created it on, then save the state, copy the .flm and .lxs files over and resume on your other machine?

The .flm file contains a dump of everything in your scene, right?

Glossy translucent was created with leaves in mind, so I'd try that.

A CRF, Camera Response File, corresponds to genuine 'old-fashioned' film roll, it will give your render the characteristics of a choice of 'classic' film stock, e.g. there are a few agfacolor film types, a few kodachrome film types, etc.

It can transform a render into near photo-realistic (if you're lucky) :)

While I dislike filters/effects/post-processing usually, I must say that subtle use of the bloom lens effect gives really lovely soft light accents sometimes.

The settings depend entirely on the scene; the answers are not meant to be vague but without knowing what type of scene you're rendering it's hard to point to any specific pointers to improve your renders.

Can you show us the current state of your render? It might make it easier to help.

In general though the tone mapping sliders correspond to settings on any manual photo camera, so in bright situations use low iso, fast shutter, medium f-stop; in low light situations use high iso, slow shutter, low f-stop.

@snarly I thought there was a way to influence how 'deep' the multibounce effect is, I might be confused with the velvet material though, where the fuzziness is adjustable.

Would it be possible to put the skin materials in an external library, like the other materials? Would make it easier to experiment with parameters.

I'm guessing the skin uses glossy with multibounce? Maybe it'd look better with the multibounce level lower.

@ThunderStone LuxRender basically takes the place of the FireFly renderer in your workflow.

Camera placement, lighting, posing your characters and props are done same as always in Poser.

When you're satisfied with your scene composition, that is where you run Pose2Lux:

• Use the materials tab to replace the Poser mats with comparable LuxRender mats.
• Use the light tab to assign the lights in your scene to groups, if it's an outdoor scene convert 1 of your infinite lights to a sun/sky light.
• Use the emitters tab to make sure that there are no unintended parts of your figures emitting light.
• Finally use the export tab to export your scene to a .lxs file for LuxRender to use.
