I really should browse through the forums more often XD

I love sci-fi, and I love writing it. There really is alot of different ways to approuch sci-fi, imo. It depends on how realistic you want things to be. Technology can be whatever you want it to be, it doesn't have to fall into normal laws of reality. It is science "fiction" after all
Some stories throw alot of techno bable around, using big words or words you've never even heard of. This is usually done to make it feel more sci-fi, leaving the viewer/reader slightly confused on what's being talked about while at the same time getting a sense that everything is high-tech. Research pays alot in this area, as there's usually some big techno word for something basic. For example, you might get someone explaining a situation to one character in a sciency way, and then that character says "in english please". Then the situation is explained in a more "down to earth" way that the viewer/reader can understand
The things I personally have researched are things like distance between planets, sizes of planets, and how long it would take to travel to different planets at light speed. I've also done research on DNA and nano technology, because my story has alot of that involved. You want to find where reality is, and how much of it you can twist and still make it seem believable, while coming up with your own new ideas that are far from reality
Immersion is important as well, if you're sucked into the story, you tend to just believe things that are completely unbelievable. You don't always have to explain things in great detail, and sometimes it's better not to. It's not always easy to pull off, it can sound funny or stupid, while other times you wont understand a single thing said but for some reason it sounds believable
As for detective kind of work, that's kind of a different subject. You have to be really creative in this area. When it comes to solving mysteries, you have to keep the reader just enough in the dark to keep them guessing but enough in the light to keep them interested. I would say this kind of writing is more difficult than sci-fi writing, but it can also just come fluently as story progresses

Ok I suppose I should have done abit more testing. Apparently it seems like it's just the 1 hair style. It will auto-parent to the head, but none of the fit morphs will work for some reason. The other hair prop models seem to work fine though
As for the hairs not working before, it was probably because as you mentioned, the character was scaled down a little. So thanks for that little bit of info :)

The "fit to" only works for hair "figures", I was refering to the hair prop kind under the Hair directory. I can still parent the hair to the head, but it doesn't automatically fit to it like it does in Poser. Even if I save the character model with the hair in place in Poser, then load it into Daz, the hair for some reason moves some distance above the head, and I have to readjust it manually

Well I finally have my install of Daz3d, so I'm trying to learn how to use it now. It took me a few minutes to figure out the steps to take on how to import my Poser Runtime folder, but got that all working now
I tried to import one of my set characters but it gave me an error saying something was out of limits. I selected leave limits off between the 2 choices it gave me, and it seemed to import the character just fine. The only problem was her hair was a small distance above her head. I tried to readd the hair, but it seems none of my hair models "snap" to the head like they do in Poser and force me to manually position the hair. Maybe I'm missing something?
I am impressed how vastly faster render times are compared to Poser, though I'm not very fond if it's layout, or the hassle of setting up what should be simple settings. I suppose every program has it's learning curve, so I guess I'll have to go hunt down some daz tutorials or something. Think I saw some helpful youtube ones
I'll probably end up bouncing between both Poser and Daz until I'm completely comfortable with Daz, but most of my final work will probably still end up being in Lightwave
Thank you everyone who has replied and helped out

Thanks for the reply. I guess my problem would be to hunt down all the content that came with DS materials over 4 seperate hard drives, and figuring out which ones actually came with them or not >_<

Thread: Maya & poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi there, I've wondered about Poser and Maya as well, cause I've seen many things done with Maya that has come out very well. Most of the movie FF was used in Maya, they made over 100 custom plugins for it, which took lot's of time and effort. Most of those plugins was for Aki's hair, the way clothing moved so well with the characters and so on. Maya isn't just used for characters though, it can do so much more. Though the learning curve is massive, it's why most people don't use it, not because of the price. Other examples of Maya is FF8, 9, and 10, Parasite Eve, even Dead or Alive 2 and 3 looks to be made in Maya. Once you've seen Maya used so many times, you can tell where it was used in games. Though I believe character animations can be much better in Maya than Poser because Maya is a much more powerful program. But anyways, seeing that isn't the info JB needs, do you have Maya at the moment? If you do, I would look at the import and export options. If you can load a poser model into Maya, I really don't see why you wouldn't be able to add the bone structure to it. It's the same with lightwave, I can take a poser character and import into lightwave and give it my own bone structure and make my own morph targets. Anyways, don't know if any of this helps, sorry if it doesn't shrugs Greeg72
Thread: IsoP age Kimonos? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, I just figured out what I did wrong. I put the files in my own character folder, but they need to be in a folder called "Iso_Kimono" then it should work fine. Make sure you download the common files as well. That might be the missing .obj files. Greeg72
Thread: IsoP age Kimonos? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm having problems getting them to work too. I made sure to download the common.zip file that they had on the site to make sure that was something I needed, but that didn't work either. It's not asking me for any .obj files or anything, it just loads on the screen, but nothing is there, so I don't even know which ones I need. I don't know if poser pro pack has any effect on this or not. Greeg72

Yea, I've noticed it's not out yet :( I guess I'll have to wait or try to find something else. Tis a shame though, I really like the way it looks, heheh. Thanks everyone for you help though. Greeg72
Thread: Kimono dress? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the link, but I've already been there, it's not the type of kimono I was looking for. From some of the pictures I've been looking at today though, I think it's ISO's kimono I'm looking for. I guess I missed that link, so I'll go check that webpage now. Thank you ^^ Greeg72

Thanks PhilC, I already have the cheongsam dress. I think it's the traditional kimono I'm looking for. I will have to give him a message. Greeg72
