Thread: Thumb Size Limit Is In Need Of Review . | Forum: Fractals
A suggestion: when using jpeg keep both size multiple of 8. Jpeg compression works on 8x8 blocks, so if you have 170x170, it is about the same of 176x176. So if you want little file it's better 168x168.
Eventually yuo can crop some pixels if you want the same aspect ratio. I use imagemagick to resize my images/crop, it is a commandline tool. Irfanview has a small bug when resizing very big images (about 6-7000Pixel in one side), it creates a small black line in the right size of the image.
Also the contrast adjuster of IView is not so good (i had to write my own one).
I also think that 512KB limits is very low, but "a caval donato non si guarda in bocca" (Italian popular phrase about free stuff), so i cannot complain about something free.
I don't use strange effects, multilayer, texture, etc.... my fractal are only about details and math and some of them lose ALL their beauty when resized to 500K.
Thread: Making a Website??? | Forum: Fractals
My web site is hosted by a free web hoster.
I upload images to imageshack, and use it for image hosting and bandwidth. There is a lot of advertising, but it is possible to avoid it by putting a link and a credit to imageshack in your site andso you can link directly to your images. When i have some spare time to rewrite the program to create gallery using imageshack without advertising.
There is no limits to host, except that each image have to be <1500KBytes
At this moment my website is this:

Hope this helps

Thread: Large Scale Image theft | Forum: Fractals
If the image can be seen it can be copied.
Just go in the internet system cache and copy the image in another directory. If it doesn't work (it can be done with an internet plugin), try to press ctrl+stamp, open microsoft paint and paste the clipboard in the paint window.
I don't see any of my images on that site (i'm not so skilled in art). But i understand your hungry about the theft.
For me the problem is not about personal copy. Anyone should understand that anything that is digitalazed can be copied. Let's see what happen with p2p: Terabyte of music and movies are in the p2p net. I thinkin the next years this will be accepted also by entertainment industry. It simply can't be stopped. Copyright is a non sense in internet era.
The problem is when someone is making money with your work. This is something i would not accept (and it is the case of that site.... if you want the wallpaper you have to pay). But the problem is not about the copy, is about the use of that copy.
I show my art on my website, on very high resolution (not the original one, but very high). I release my image under one of the Creative Commons license. I allow personal use (not commercial one), i don't want that you modify my work, i want that if you distribuite my work it has to be redistribuite under the same terms, and i want you say that it is my work.
This means that you can copy my image and print it, but you cannot sell the print. Of course you cannot sell my wallpaper, or even give it for free without saying it is my work.
If you want to learn more aboute creative commons license:

I don't understand your second paragraph.....(i'm not so good in English)
Does it mean that i no longer have to create a thumbnail for my images because renderosity does it for me?
If it is so it is very good!

Laser print has only 4 colors. To do good color prints you should use 6 colors. Laser has more detail but is not so good with colors.

I use 12-13 pixel/mm (about 300-330 pixel/inch) for photopaper.
I want to start to print on canvas, and i think i will use less resolution (8-9 pixel/mm)
Thread: Where are all my IM's? | Forum: Fractals
I have problem with im too.....
Nothing serious.... just i have the 'you have a new message' blue light on in the up-left corner, but if i click i have no message in inbox.

I don't think they're only 'simple spiral' with a few PS filters. Of course, some images i thought they should go (or not go) in the FWW don't go (or go), but each of us think in a different way, so it is normal.
Personally i admit that here in renderosity users prefer 'artistical' images (with multilayer, filters, effects, composition, ecc) than 'mathematic' ones, more simple but which shows the true beauty of a virtual mathematic world. I prefer 'mathematic' images, but there are very few users that think like me. So it's normal that FWW shows such images, with VERY COOL coloring effects from photoshops.
I'm not able to do such images, but i think is a lot of work to do them, even if the 'mathematical layer' is not so interesting like the artistic one.

Thread: Need advice how to prepare a picture for the printshop | Forum: Fractals
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/jbgenov/resizer.exe (copy & paste this link on your browser, or it will not work) Usage: resizer.exe n input.bmp output.bmp n is the downscaling factor. source must be width multiple of 4*n, and height multiple of n. Work only on .bmp

Of course i also use bmp if i go tothe shop in my city. Unfortunately that shop is very expensive, and i went there only for one of my prints, that was too big to print online. I use always the internal 3x3 antialias of my fractal program, which don't works on colors but on numerical values. If it is not enough i've written another simple application that means pixel (takes nxn square and create a mean pixel). This is because some of my images get bigger than 1GB and there are memory problems to open such images. It resize one row at a time so it needs less memory. It is written in c, and actually it is not usable without a compiler. I will work on it to produce a command line interface..... stay tuned :-). Don't expect too much, i'm only a programmer hobbist.

My online shops accept bmp too, but the server space limit is 350MB per user, so i prefer jpg. To reach a reasonable price i have to order a lot of prints (price go down with number of prints, and also spedition cost per print is lower). I use a 3x3 antialias internal to my program (that do an armonic means of number of iteration, discarding the min and the max value, not colors). Sometimes with very complex fractals like my last ones i posted here i need other 2x2 or 3x3 interpolation (i write another program that divide the source bmp resolution by meaning pixels), so it's a lot of cpu work to do very large prints at 300dpi. A suggestion: I order my low size prints (up to 75x50cm) in a photo shop which probably use chemical print, the detail is good, but te color is not so good. The price is very low. If you can afford an higher expense i suggest you to do a print on an 6-colors plotter (not 4 colors!) on high quality photo paper. 6 colors is very good to print bright colors.
Thread: Thumbnails | Forum: Fractals
I use imagemagick, using this commandline (both for the image and the thumbnail): convert -filter ***** -resize x! -quality ** image.bmp lowresimage.jpg filter=lanczos for more detail, triangle for less detail (more compression). resize=size of new image quality=usually 90 or more. If i have large tumbh i use sometimes 89, which is very smaller in size than 90. It's a very nice program..... i use it also to put border and title on my prints.....
