Thanks. After a bit trying, I did tick off the smoothing mesh, but I needed to subdivide the object in Blender multiple times to get an acceptable result.
Thanks for helping.

Still this is a problem. In Vue 14ple and in Vue Infinite 7.
The imported OBJ object is a perfectly simple cylinder object without any Ngons. See the example.
Smoothing angle is not solving the issue.
I've been trying for over weeks now to import a simple made cylinder into Vue, without any good results. Shadows are ugly, and there are distorted materials.
How do you import objects into Vue, that look ok? Because this is not working.

Thread: influence of altitude | Forum: Vue
Maybe I should explain my main goal.
I'm trying to make a material that reacts to the altitude or the current height that is on.
To give an example, in this example picture you see a sphere with 2 colors. If I lower the sphere in altitude (z) I want the distance between
the red color of the cube and the yellow of the sphere to be the same.
So imagine the distance of the red color of the cube and the yellow color of the sphere now equals 10 cm, I want it to stay 10cm if I raise and lower the sphere in z.

Thanks.
I don't think Environment altitude is the same as Influence of altitude. Excuse me if it is.
I can perfectly determine an environment altitude on my objects, but I wanted to know what Influence of altitude does..
When I play with the Influence of slope, rotate an object, I see visible result. When I play with the Influence of altitude nothing happens..
See the options I tried:

Can you give me an example how you do that? If I want snow on a peak I can control that by only playing with the mixing properties, not with the infuence of altitude..

Thanks. I made a mistake indeed. Never saw the ngon on top..(excuse me FrankT) I learned something new today. Thank you.

Ok. Here is a screenshot of the object. If imported to Vue, the object becomes triangulated.

Thanks for the reply.
I did some study but I cannot find any solution to this problem.
I did check and adjusted the smoothing angle in the mesh options. But that doesn't solve it.
In Vue in the 3d editor the strange shadows are already visible..
The weird part is, if I download a really complex Blender object, like a car, Vue renders it perfectly.
This is the most simple shape, so I don't get the problem.
I also tried Vue 14 PLE. There the problem is still visible, but less.
I can change and adjust the atmosphere, then it smooths out a bit, but the shadows are staying weird..
Any thoughts? The object is a mesh object, exported in Blender as *.OBJ. Tried different options during export, nothing helped.

Normals are facing outwards and evey face has 4 vertices, so no NGON. ย

Hi thd777,
Thank you.
I did not notice your attached image file. Did you edit the reply afterwards?
Eventually I noticed an example in Vue that I needed. Like in your example.
Attach the colormap to the fractal that is connected to the position and bumpmap.
I think from vue 8 they changed the FE, because the displacement tab in the FE is called bump or it doesn't existย in FE. (or I'm confused O_o).
My result:

Hi thd777,
no, not like that.
I want the area close to the 'core' of the sphere to be green, and the 'higher' altitudes to be red. You know what I mean now?
Thanks!

Thread: Position image based material on terrain | Forum: Vue
Thank you for the tutorial.
I have learned that I made a mistake by using the Object Parametric instead of Object Standard. Only the problem now is that the 'outside' area is colored red.. I only want the road to be red, in this case.
How can I achieve that?
Example here:

So, you understand what my probem is?
Can you notify me when you have that tutorial finished? Would be great! Thx
