Subject: Altitude function

Javil ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2013 at 1:58 PM · edited Tue, 07 January 2025 at 9:45 AM

Hello all,

I like to know how I manage to create 2 colors and different altitudes in the function editor. (Vue Inf 7.x)
I tried al lot, but I cannot find the solution.

  1. Create a sphere
  2. Load a bump function on the sphere
  3. Enable some displacement mapping on the bump map

The lower areas need to be for example green and the higher areas need to be red.

Any idea which functions I need to combine?

Would be great to see how that works!

Thx

You mean like in the attached  picture? The easiest is to just set it all one color and then add a second layer in the other color and set the distribution via the environment tab (that's what I did here). The other option is to make a color map with the two colors and then use the altitude input in the function editor to drive the distribution. You can use a map filter node to set the exact level. If you want to do it that way, let me know and I can show you.

Hi thd777,

no, not like that.

I want the area close to the 'core' of the sphere to be green, and the 'higher' altitudes to be red. You know what I mean now?

Thanks!

Not  exactly sure what you need. Are you referring to the altitudes (=magnitude) of the displacement? In that case you need to use the same function used for the displacement to drive the colormap. Is that what you want?Like the attached example?

Hi thd777,

Thank you.

I did not notice your attached image file. Did you edit the reply afterwards?

Eventually I noticed an example in Vue that I needed. Like in your example.
Attach the colormap to the fractal that is connected to the position and bumpmap.

I think from vue 8 they changed the FE, because the displacement tab in the FE is called bump or it doesn't exist in FE. (or I'm confused O_o).

My result:

stones with displacement map

Looking good. Glad you you figured it out.

Yes, I forgot to attach the image when I posted and had to edit the post. I guess you looked while I was editing.
