Thread: screen/picture size | Forum: Photography
Its nice to see a big image, BUT, as others have pointed out you don't get the overall impression, especially if a picture has a good composition. I suppose 800 x 600 is fine.
Thread: If money was not a consideration which would you buy? | Forum: Photography
If money was no object I'd get something which had at least 12 or more Megapixels, preferably 16 Megapixels, either a Nikon or a Canon. Having said that the Eos 350D seems to produce nice sharp images and Fuji have just released a 9 Megapixel 'bridge' type camera with a very good zoom and macro facility. It sells for less than the Eos 350D, but only slightly... Personally I hate carrying gear and would shy away from anything of a 'medium' format size, so I like the new generation of 35mm sized digital cameras, or smaller.
Thread: NEW RENDEROSITY LOGO | Forum: Photography
I quite like the pallette thingy, but the header banner smacks too much of the old PS splash screens which frankly are a bit hackneyed. It's not all that clear either what it all is, the lens on the left is barely visible.
Thread: we finally decided on a printer | Forum: Photography
Yes, blocked heads are a real pain- it makes the proccess real expensive. The previous generation of printers didn't print so fine but never tended to block up, you could reliably use them in a professional capacity. Epson seem to be bad for this fault. HP have a totally different system, but I don't know much about them other than in general office situations. Epson have just bought out a new A3 printer with superior printing qualities, similar to the R800 but with better inks I think, ie more shades of black/grey.
Thread: Sepia and Photoshop | Forum: Photography
I quite like the original as it is, but the other samples are more like the effect you get with old black and white pics that haven't been washed properly and have gone that warm sandy color. Proper sepia is a very subtle cool brown color. Convert the image to greyscale by using the channels command, using the sliders to get the tonal effect you prefer. Change back to rgb and put in a subtle color cast using the color balance controls. Try for a start about 6 yellow and say 4 magenta. Try also selecting mid tone for the yellow and magenta and the highlight control for a more bluey tint. It needs to be very subtle. You could also try the 'dual' tone effect to give a subtle color change.

Here's an idea: Posted images that get under a certain number of comments or score, are removed after a fortnight from the gallery. That would encourage folks to make more effort with their work and weed out substandard work.

Lets face it, eventually the powers that be on this Gallery are going to have start dropping images from members galleries, especially if the rate of growth continues. After all the servers they use cannot be infinitely large... I'm surprised at how much data they must already hold, if you think about how much space in Mb the average ISP will allow you.
