danamo --- hey! you have that control strip up there on your Bryce... for some reason, the one I'm using doesn't have that. I'm thinking there's maybe something wrong with the program. I've only used it maybe four or five times. let me check it again.

Thanks for the help. I tried importing it again in Bryce, using the method drawbridge describes, but I still get the same error message -- invalid format. It even happens when I click on user objects.

I too was a bit dissappointed by the change, but last night I did make some successful purchases from stuff that I'd left on my wishlist. No problems encountered, although I haven't yet tried to find new stuff under the redesign. My purchase history is still there. I had some questions and concerns about the new format and the controllers here got right back to me. Not to find fault or anything, but I've never gotten that level of help from the other major Poser online sales site. For whatever it's worth, the larger thumbnails were good with the old system, and the text is a bit small now, bit I don't think it's as horrific as all that. But if they wanted to change back I wouldn't complain, either.
Thread: How many people is using still Poser 4 ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm using Poser 4.0.3. It rules! My friend has Poser 5, which looks pretty good, but I'm used to using Poser 4.

hee hee! Thanks Jim. I really got a kick out of this one. Sort of like one of those personality-reading pictures that you make up a story to... "Hmm, looks like it's taking place on a Civil War battlefield, and Batman is wearing only shorts and his mask. And he's chasing a costume-less Batgirl..." I checked out the links you folks posted, too. Great stuff! :) MoxeyH

Awesome thread! I've only been here a few months, but I'd say definitely the nudity questions are the most frequent... "I'd like my 8-year-old to play with Poser, but I'm worried about all the nudity. Are there any characters that aren't naked?" If you ask me, Poser is definitely for 16 and up, just considering the complexity of the program alone, never mind the nudity and morphing gentials and fairy breasasis and elf penises and whatnot. And the magnets. What the hell do the magnets even do? Damned if I know. I stay away from those things. I also see a lot of questions like "Do you know where I can get a character that looks like (insert name of famous person, i.e. Bilbo Baggins/David Bowie/C3PO/Martha Stewart/Colin Powell/Dubya/etc)." Personally, I'd figured by now there'd be hundreds of free versions of characters for, let's say, The Beatles, but I haven't see even a character for Ringo Starr! Funnily enough, I noticed that RIGHT AFTER that Mel Gibson "Jesus" movie came out, DAZ had a character called "The King." And it looked suspiciously like the dude from the "Jesus" movie, and not at all like Elvis! Go figure. "I just bought the 'Dubya' character from DAZ, and I'm wondering what I could do to get his mouth to close. Is this a glitch in the character or is he supposed to be like that?" :) -- MoxeyH
Thread: Are men just as bad as women when it comes to buying clothes? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Clothes and character sets are the main thing for me. I don't know HOW MANY thing's I've bought at Thorneworks but it's a considerable list. I've definitely shopped at Renderosity the most, but DAZ is up there, too. And Poserpros, now that I found it. I find DAZ is good for basic sets (Mike, Victoria amd Mil Kids) and basic clothes; Renderosity is the best for add-ons, hair, environments, props and textures, and Thorneworks has great characters. Kozaburo is the king (or queen) of free stuff. Renderosity has AN AWESOME free stuff selection too!

So true, RedMM. The generic adults, Poser and Posette, and kids, were "OK" for the first month or so, but not very versatile. In fact I don't even remember the last time I used them in a render! Thinking about Poser and Posette is, like, trying to remember the name of the science book I used in middle school. IOW seems like a loooooong time ago! Michael, Victoria and Vicky (the MG package) are pretty much the "main characters" in all the renders I like, and in a lot of other people's work, too. Stephanie, Mayadoll, the anime girl and a bunch of others are catching up, though!

I agree -- I want more "everyday-wear" stuff for the mil kids, too. They don't need to dress like french maids all the time, and it looks damn silly on the boys.

oh god seriously...I spend more on Poser than I do my own clothes. I think I hit up Renderosity, Daz and Poser Pros at least on a weekly basis, snagging all kinds of clothes, textures, props, hair, morphs, environments, etc... It seems like I have just about every set of clothes for the mil kids that's available, and a whole bunch for Victoria and Michael. HAIR was always the biggest problem though becuz I hate it when I have two or more characters in the same scene have the SAME HAIR! I can just imagine a grade school teacher writing on my render "Looks like you didn't try very hard -- C minus." I'm finding out a little late that there is TONS of FREE STUFF out there for Poser! I never even really knew there was a free site here actually until recently. So now I check for free stuff every day. It hasn't really cut down on how much I spend on Poser but it has increased the amount of stuff I have. :)

I'm a relative beginner too but fortunately I started with Poser 3. I got to work out my frustrations on that program, wondering how everyone was posting all these awesome pics and my ppl wound up looking like pretzels, all twisted up. My advice would be to read any tutorials that are offered, even if they seem to simple at first. I found all my info online and I'm sort of a half-assed Poser user now! (nothing I'm proud enough of to post, though). Also, if you encounter a problem with a specific product offered here (or even any other store) definitely post a question on this forum. The people here get back to you sometimes within an hour. A really great community! Oh, and also I'd say that the key to enjoying Poser (for me anyhow) really is the accesories you can get once you learn a little about the program. Pre-made poses and morphs can REALLY make your work shine and cut down on the time you have to spend moving all the little dials and switches and stuff. I was dissappointed with what I got with regular Poser 4, some generic characters and clothes mainly, and it wasn't till I started shopping at Renderosity and a few other stores that I started being happy with what I could do with Poser. I'd suggest getting Michael, Victoria and the millenium kids to start, and then buy the unique character textures and clothes here. Those characters are a must-have for Poser and are really sort of "standard" for the more realistic clothes/hair/accesories. I'm not trying to plug any particular site or make you spend a lot of cash, but I just want to emphasize that I probably would have lost interest in Poser early on if not for the cool stuff I bought to really sort of put together artwork that I really enjoyed.
