Thread: your RENDER TIMES for vue xStream | Forum: Vue
From a lot of reading I've been doing online recently, it would SEEM that rendering speed is mainly determined by RAM over everything else.
I'm glad to hear someone else had a bad experience with xStream and it's not just me. My system is not loaded, but I have the strong feeling that even with 2 Gigs of RAM Vue will NOT be blazing fast.
I am losing my patience with Vue. I did actually test it on a machine with 2 gigs of ram and it was still not satisfactory.
I thin they need to be more honest and realistic about their system requirements.

I love your work.
"In Exile"--the beginning.. is one of my favorite. But I really also like that one you mentioned with the trees in the water with the amazing lighting and nice textures.
I like the photorealistic effects I've seen with Vue. I am just starting to use it this week. I have noticed, however, that Vue, just like Bryce,is not very photorealistic "out of the box". I am going to have to learn which settings to adjust.
A lot of the default materials have a "fake plastic" look to them like in Bryce when you first create them. Down the road I may as you for some advice.
The wind effects are hot, though. I don't know if Bryce does that, but it's definately a step above Bryce in this regard.
Thanks for your help.

Actually, I did not think the card would support OpenGL HARDWAREย acceleration but it DOES, and pretty well.
Vue told me it wanted to run in software mode but I declined and I verified that its working using Open GL Hardware acceleration.
I also tested the Torque Game Engine using DirectX and OpenGL and OpenGL actually is much faster and smoother with this machine. Go figure.

that WAS odd. Yes, but now it's working, thank you.ย I see you are using osCommerce. I will definately check out these tutorials and probably buy one pack or the whole bundle. Looks awesome. I need to learn Vue ASAP.

How come it won't let me buy the megapacks? It won't let me buy anything. All the "buy" links simply have a hyperlink pointing to "#"

Well, I can try for wireframe only but it seems like I'm screwed unless I get a new Laptop. I can buy a good video card for a desktop, but I do most of my work on the road.
How much RAM and VRAM do you guys have (assumingย you work with VUE).

Thread: System Requirements for Vue xStream | Forum: Vue
i want to make movies with lots of trees and water (similar to what is in the demo video for Vue...of course not that extensive, but simlar. I am also using Max so I'll have animated characters that I'm making inside fo the Vue scenery.
I don't care AS MUCH about render time, as I do the ability to manipulate objects inside of the VUE interface.
If I up my RAM to 2 Gigs, do I have a chance of being able to move things around freely in Vue without major slowdown????????? Please advise!!

I have 1 Gig of RAM on my system. Is that what you mean?
Is RAM what determines how well Vue runs, or is it VRAM.
More RAM or VRAM, that is the question.
Thread: Making Custom Poser Content | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I should clarify a few things:
I AM MAKING AN ANIMATED SHORT.
I WANT TO USE VUE BECAUSE OF THE SCENERY GENERATION ABILITIES.
I wanted to use Poser because I have read that Poser is the only content that you can bring into Vue and ANIMATE.
But here's what I'm hearing from you guys:
Poser is very limited . I may be better off creating my characters in Max and buying Vue xStream.
Poser is very limited in general. Better off sticking with Max.
Is that the consensus?
Thread: Making Custom Poser Content | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ok, so you are saying I can made a model in Max, import to Poser, and then RIG the model in Poser to work like any other poser model.
**Is this correct?
**
If so, then maybe I should use Vue xStream so I can use Vue inside of Max? What do you think? Are you familiar with Vue D'Esprit?

I guess "supernatural" is an wrong term. Simply I want to make a man in Poser with a frog's head and a man's body.
Is this possible?
I am a Max user, so I can handle texturing, and making UVW maps, etc. that's work but I'm used to it.
Thread: Should I switch to Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmmmm.. well yes, the obvious choice is to stick with Max, (which I love btw...Max is awesome).... and just work on my speed, keyboard shortcuts etc. until I can become a good speed modeler.
Then get Vue Xtream

Quote - One of the big draw backs of animating in Poser is clothing poke-throughs, where the figures body pokes thru its clothes at extreme poses.
Wow. ok I did not know that Poser did not have dynamic cloth. That is a drawback and is probably what makes some of the models look stiff, like mannequins.
Also, 3ds Max can save poses , and there is a way to mirror animations if my memory serves me correctly.
This has all been very honest and relevant feedback. Thanks!!

You don't even need switch to Vue at all, here's your solution: http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_6_xstream/
Wow. I had no idea this existed. This may be the solution. Not sure how this could work, but it sounds appealing. Yeah, it sounds like Poser may limit my creativity.
As an organic character modeler, I'm used to 100% control of everything.
In Poser, If I need a human head with a frog's body, having to make a full frog and then hide the body and a full human and hide the head, etc. sounds very roundabout and potentially very limiting. Plus Poser is too high poly for me anyway, even for cinematics, I can envision insane render times, which would not be good.
But Vue inside of Max? Sounds good. I may look into this.
