I got Carrara because it had a modeler or two built in. I mainly use the spline modeler. I like the ability to make trees. Being able to make other vegitation would be nice. Most of the interfaces are fine except for the metaball one. This I hate so I tend not to use it. Price is a concern but only because of our exchange rate.

Thanks Markd, I've printed this thread to PDF so I can refer to it while I play. Cheers Neil

Thanks Mark I will try that. Your picture (top) is what I was expecting to see when I first rendered it. Markd, I have not purchased the fresnel shader plugin yet but thanks I'll have to have a play with that one day. Cheers Neil

Now that is worth a try. I only saw the candle holder for a quick glance in passing and thought that it looked interesting. I did a quick sketch on my palm but missed out details. While I initally thought the top was below the candles, I'll try it the way you have suggested and see. Thanks for the quick reply . Cheers

Thread: Method to create "perfect" gears? | Forum: Carrara
There was a freeware program I got awhile back called gearmaker. You set all the gear parameters and it made an OBJ file. Works great for gears. I have just had a look and it is in the free section here at Renderosity Cheers Neil

Thanks Steama & Sailor_Ed. Shonner: The haze effect worked well and was created using two volumetric clouds. Mateo_Sancarlos: Thanks. Yes that texture is stretched a bit but I had a hell of a time getting the texture to sit right. I had several images that had bad pixalation and that took me a couple of go's to work out. Nomuse: Thanks. The ground is similair to Vue that I use also. The texture came from a texture pack that nvidia put out a year or so ago and is just some mossy rocks. It does look good though. I guess it is what you get used to as I could never get the hang of Bryce. I like the trees also but finding textures for them took awhile. Cheers Neil
