Thread: Poser 8 and Vue | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm curious about this too. Not holding my breath with the new rigging and such, but it would be nice to know what does/doesn't work if anything.
Thread: Vue 7.5 revealed. Ouch. | Forum: Vue
Well, IÂ guess I'm glad I waited to upgrade 6...
I just don't see what was so urgent about new features that it couldn't wait for a full 8 release. Why bother release a half-way product when you could just take the time and do it right? While some of the features in the list are nice, there is no drop-down must have feature unless you're using a program like XSI. E-on should have just released the .4 update and waited until 8 was ready to release the rest. It doesn't benefit anyone to rush these things out the door and try to nickel and dime your loyal customers.

Thread: Poser prop hair import woes | Forum: Vue
Thanks all for your help. Like I said in my first post, I've had problems all along with Poser hair and I've been using Vue since version 4. But I'll focus on the current incarnation, because that is what I'd like to have work correctly. :D
Im using Poser 7 and Vue 6 Esprit, both updated to the latest versions on an Intel iMac running Mac OS 10.4.11. As far as I have seen, Vue 6 has very few problems importing from Poser 6. It's when I add Poser 7 to the mix that I have the problems again. My suspicion, like someone else mentioned is that this is actually a Poser 7 issue (that program is riddled with bugs). Unfortunately, with the Intel Mac, working exclusively in Poser 6 is a pain because it is not Universal Binary. Add to that the lack of multiple undos (dont know how I ever got bay without that) and the lack of morphing brush...
All my runtimes are contained within the Poser 7 Folder in my Applications folder on my primary hard drive. I have Poser 6 linked up to the same runtimes as Poser 7 all within my Poser 7 folder.
Quote - The issue here is that they changed the library loading system in P7, and introduced some virtualization; the P7 saved pathway is not logically complete. Nothing prevents you from doing your work in P7, saving, then opening and resaving in P6 to correct that issue. It's a kludge step, but it does work.....
I tried this out and it seems to work. Poser 6 gives me an error when it opens the file (about the version number), but it opens. I could probably get rid of that error if I edit the PZ3 to change the version of the file. It may be a pain, but it's no where near as much of a pain as exporting as an OBJ file then relinking all the materials.

Since none of you seem to have this problem, I sat down and tried a few things to see if I could narrow it down. The collecting script didnt' help, unfortunately, but it's nice to know that there is that feature.
To start out with, I took a basic Aiko and put the Mitsu hair on her in Poser 7 and saved that file. I also tried it with the Paris hair. I imported both into Vue and neither hair came in. Then I got to thinking that maybe Vue wasn't liking my runtime, so I installed the Paris Hair into the default Poser 7 runtime, made a new Poser file and tried importing that. It worked fine. I opened up the original PZ3 in a text editor to see if the file paths were wrong but they looked correct.
So next, I switched my Vue to point to Poser 6. Then I opened Poser 6, which is linked to my runtimes in my Poser 7 folder (the same ones that were causing the problem in the first place). I placed Aiko in the scene with the hair in question, saved that file and imported it. Lo and behold it imports fine.
Then on a whim, I tried two more things. With Vue 6 still linked to Poser 6, I tried importing the original Poser 7 file. No luck. Then I took my original Poser 7 file, opened it in a text editor and changed the version number to 6 (this would sometimes work in Vue 5), but no dice there either.
So, apparently Vue 6 doesn't like Poser 7 external runtimes, but likes them well enough with Poser 6. I remember reading somewhere on E-on's site that they had problems with the Poser 7 SDK and multiple runtimes. I was hoping they had resolved these in the Vue 6 updates since then, but apparently not. (Sigh). Looks like it's back to using Poser 6 for my Vue projects...

Quote - so far I've never had that problem, thankfully!
have you tried the trick with using Python script to export & copy ALL the scene objects to a new folder, load it form there? :)
File--> Run Python Script--> navigate to your Poser proram directory, Runtime-->, Python-->, Poser Scripts-->, Utility-->, CollectSceneInventory.py, then select "Copy all to Folder"
I'll give this a try. The scene I'm having problems with now is Mitsu hair which I have parented to V4. Works fine in Poser, but when I import it to Vue the hair is gone. Oddly enough, she has another prop parented to her that translates over fine. I also had a problem recently with Paris hair. Neither of them are strand based, so they shouldn't be a problem and AFAIK, they aren't OBZ files. I also had problems recently when I parented a bunch of props to a shelf in Poser then imported that to Vue. More than half the props vanished. With that one I ended up exporting to OBJ and relinking the materials.
And, yes, I have updated my Vue and Poser to the latest versions. Poser 7.0.2.132 and Vue Esprit 6.10 -04 running Mac OS 10.4
Thread: Vue 6 - Satisfaction - Informal Poll | Forum: Vue
Saw this and figured I'd chime in too. I've been using Vue Esprit since 4, but I only recently was able to upgrade to 6. So I guess I missed the buginess that everyone complained about with the early release ;), but I can say that the current version of Vue 6 is miles ahead of Vue 5. I had a complete love-hate relationship with 5 because of its overall slowness and buginess. Now that I have 6 I am leaning back towards the love end of the relationship :D
That's not to say that there still isn't some wigginess with Poser imports. I still get the occaisional missing hair (that's my biggest pet peeve with the Poser import) or bad material setting. Yesterday I had a bunch of props parented to a shelf and tried to import that and lost about half of them and had to do an OBJ export, but on the whole it is much much better. The dynamic import also could use some tweaking. I had a piece of dynamic cloth that lost all its dynamics when I tried to import it as a still frame.

Thread: Looking for a Hazmat/Chemical Suit | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Found an old thread over at CP about the Sanctum Arts stuff with this comment directly from Sanctum Arts:
"I would like to confirm that SA RDL7 lines are discontinued products. It was announced over at another forum eight months ago that some of the products will not be coming back onto the market. Sorry and thank you..."
Too bad too. From what Im seeing around there was a lot of other great stuff in that line. The only remnanats appear to be that big hologram room which apparently got sold to Daz as a P/C item. I wonder if maybe the artist that made them left Sanctum Arts.

Quote - If you Did not buy the RDL7 Hazmat Suits from DAZ As I and Many others did
than you Will Not get them Sanctum made it clear in his farewell notice/warning in the DAZ forums that the RDL7 Content will Never be available for poser again
so direct you efforts to the alternatives...Sorry
That's unfortunate. Sounds like Daz and Sanctum Arts had a big falling out (which would explain why all their stuff is over at CP now). Too bad, their stuff is some of the only Poser content I would consider spending that kind of money on.
Anyone have any other ideas? I might be able to make the Labtec thing work with a decent texture, but I don't see a helmet and I was really hoping for something a little more detailed/realistic.
The Xurge3d site is awesome and has been added to my favorites, but they don't have quite what I am looking for. There is a biological suit there, but it looks more armor like. I need something that would be at home in a laboratory on a research station. Maybe it's time for me to fire up Hexagon and make myself one ;)
Thread: Looking for a Hazmat/Chemical Suit | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks everyone! I just sent an email to Sanctum Arts. Hopefully they still have them available somewhere, because that is exactly what I am looking for.

Quote - Lot's of good suggestions in this thread, but I didn't see my particular pet peeve mentioned...
Thumbnails. I
I'll second that one! And even worse is when you get a pack of textures and you get NO THUMBNAILS! There's nothing worse than having to make PNGs for all the eye colors, etc in a texture pack you bought.
The other thing that irks me is that we are now on Poser 7 and people are still making stuff that is designed for Poser 4. I understand designing for the lowest common denominator, but I would hope that most Poser users are at least on 5 by now so can we please do away with the .bum file references! It is very unreasonable to expect vendors to keep making files that are compatible with software from four versions ago. How many software companies nowadays are designing for Windows 98? At least offer the Poser 4 version of your file AND a poser 5/6/7 version.
Thread: Weird purple noise in Vue 5 Esprit render | Forum: Vue
Through process of elimination, I was able to figure out what part of the scene was causing the noise. Apparently Vue didn't like the material I had on the boolean tube that constitutes the walls of the room. The material was a two-level mixed material that used glass on the second level. I changed the material to a simple mix of metal and glass, and the noise went away. I also tried different materials which also used glass on a second level of materials and they caused the noise too. I've used these materials on other objects with no ill effects, apparently Vue just has problems putting them on a boolean tube.
So...I figured out what caused the problem, just not why. I've found made a material that works all right, but is not as good as what I had before. If anyone knows a workaround for this I would still be grateful.
