I've contacted Smith Micro Support and they pretty much said the same thing that a reinstall is needed. Of course, I can't find the install files and I didn't purchase the Extended Download Service package, so I have to buy that first and then I can download again. Unfortunately, I keep clicking on the button to buy the service and nothing is happening. I'm waiting to hear back from the tech to see if I'm just missing something...could be, it's been a long day. John had a Christmas party here for his Staples gang. :lmao:

The new "EZ" version sucks even more than the "Classic" version. In the new version Faceshop does all the work and the results look exactly like M4...or V4...or whatever...except that the eyes are freaky looking. Oh, when I say that the results look like M4...that means exactly like M4 with no morphs. Like I said, it sucks.

I've gone back to using Poser 7 exclusively. I tried every suggested thing in a bunch of forums here and on other sites, but could never get the library to work at all. I started using the Semidieu Library Manager and that worked fine for me for a long time. For the past few months, though, every time I try to use Poser 8 at all, as soon as I start loading things into a scene the system abruptly closes down completely.

Yeah, but will it work for us poor shlubs that can't get the original to work in the first place?

I never got the Poser 8 Library to work and have resorted to some of the workarounds suggested in the threads that PhilC notated. I currently use Shaderwork's Library python script, along with P3DO Explorer (when I need to find something quickly).
I mostly use Poser 7 for character design (because it's easy to save the progress) and sometimes when I'm putting together a complicated scene. I'll then save the PZ3 file as a WIP and bring it in to Poser 8 to Render.

Yesterday I saw the news about SR2. I downloaded and installed it. The library still doesn't work for me unless I drop down to Diagnostic Mode. I'll be sticking with Poser 7 for the time being.

Antonio, that was one hell of a commentary. I can just imagine what you didn't say here in this forum. I only wish that my "hobby" was half as productive as yours...especially since I'm currently unemployed after the multi-billion dollar global consulting company that I worked at for five years went belly up.

If I make the effort to show John a particular piece, he'll give it a half-hearted "nice"...otherwise, he only comments on how much money I spend on this hobby (which serves to justify how much money he spends on furniture and other household goods that we don't need). LOL

If you do contact Support, Site Mail me the Incident Number so I can find it and respond.
Although I appreciate the offer, my friend, I've been spending way too much time trying to diagnose this problem and not enough time actually doing anything with the program. For now, I'll let sleeping dogs lie and just utilize the program this way. At least I'm able to use it instead of seriously contemplating returning it.
I'll see what happens after SR1 comes out...maybe I'll revisit this then. In the meantime, I'm just going to play for a bit. Thanks.

I just wanted to say that I had a bit of an epiphany today. Simply put, I figured that, since Poser 8 worked fine in Diagnostic mode, why not just use it in Diagnostic mode? There's nothing else running to interfere with it and it actually runs faster. I did the attached pic this afternoon and it didn't take that long...even with the Indirect Lighting.
Thanks for your willingness to help.

OK, so I'm partway there. In diagnostic mode, I'm able to see the library. This is the first time that I've been able to check that out (it's been a busy week).
Anyway, before I start monkeying around with any settings, I would really like a dummy's guide to step-by-step through this. At work, I'm the systems guru for queries and mainframes, but I hesitate to do too much on the old laptop. I've known too many people who have screwed things up royally by touching something that they shouldn't.
So, can you elaborate on what (and where) to start looking for?

I have no intention of asking for a refund, but I have set Poser 8 aside for the time being. I found that I was spending more time trying to get the library to work than I was actually doing anything with the program.
I've read all the threads concerning what to do if you can't see the library in Poser 8 and have tried all of the suggestions that worked for "everyone else". The latest attempt was when it was suggested that my Macafee was the culprit...followed by my needing to update my NVidia driver (did and didn't make any difference).
Now I've re-read some of the posts and am convinced that what we need are step-by-step for dummies (like me). Suggestions like make certain that your security is allowing Poser is OK, but it would be nicer to hear "go here...you'll see this...if you don't see this, go here...if you see this...press this button", etc.
Since I've started making the suggested changes to my system, my system has started acting up. It's taking longer to load pages in Firefox (I don't use Internet Explorer because it was always unstable); I get twice as many screen freezes and, when I use Poser 7, I can load figures in, but as soon as I try to click on the body instead of the hip, Poser just shuts down in a blink.
I've recently used a registry cleaner (and spyware detector) and have cleared some dangerous things off my system. I now intend to take it in for a checkup at Staples (where my hubby is a manager) to see if there's anything that I missed (like why my speakers no longer work).
Once I get the laptop acting "normal", I'll revisit the Poser 8 specifics.
