Subject: The case of the missing Geometries

Has anyone else had this problem?  Recently, I've noticed that some of my geometry files appear to have gone MIA.  I've been setting up new runtimes and when I load in a figure Poser 6 naturally starts to search for the component parts.  Usually, when I get the pop-up asking for the path to something, I just open up P3DO Explorer and see where it should be and direct Poser accordingly.  Unfortunately, I've started finding that either the object file, or even the whole folder it's supposed to be in, is no longer available.

The first time it was Mike's penis (no joke) that turned up missing (Satanica's Real M3 Gen) and last night it was a BD outfit that I also purchased at 'Rotica...probably just a coincidence (or my laptop and USB drive have conspired to censor my files).

My intention is to eventually move all the geometry files into the respective runtimes that I've set up for M3, V3, Aiko, Hiro, Koshini Gang, etc.  It's a big job, but sombody's got to do it.

Yep, no more penises or BD for you, my friend... Only Naked Vicki In A Temple With A Sword from now on. Yup. When you say "no longer available" do you mean that the file has actually disappeared, and can't be found with a Windows file search? Or is Poser just refusing to see it for some reason?

I mean that it's gone forever...can't find it with Windows Explorer.

yeah, but unless you zero the drive, it's still there somewhere.

...are the files in the recycle bin, for instance? I've had problems with library files being corrupted while they were being written, and Poser 4 used to hose the geometry RSRs if something went wrong, but I haven't heard of Poser 6 losing its geometries before. All I can suggest is to reinstall those items and see what happens. You could reasonably make the entire contents of the geometries folders read-only as a precaution. The usual housekeeping stuff wouldn't hurt, either - defragmentation, virus / spyware scan, disk error check, that sort of thing.

Actually, I recently did a defrag.  I was wondering more in the line of whether or not there could be issues due to the number of geometry files that exist in that folder.  Up until now, all the files have been in the main runtime folder.  I'm just now getting to the point where I can start moving the files to the runtimes where their associated CR2's are.

Don't know if anyone is interested, but I found my missing geometry files.  I just finished moving all my geometry files to the character specific runtimes and, in the process, came across a folder in my P4 runtime called prefs.  There was another geometries folder within that folder and, lo and behold, all the missing object files were there...including the gasp Satanica penis.  All's well that ends well.

Now I'm working on moving the texture files to the appropriate runtimes. sigh
