Quote - Looks like the 'fill' light may be that of a reflection off of a planet. Like some shuttle photos I've seen.
That is quite possible and a realistic scenario.

Well if there were say a single element of sunlight hitting the hull then the dark side should be pitch black then unless it were a reflective metal but then it would be reflecting the starfield and nothing more. IMHO i think for the look of metal there should be a better case of tighter highlights as well. If this were a metal surface which i am assuming it is then the highlighting is to diffused here to me. The brightness itself is not a problem though. He probably used a 4048 by 4048 bump map because there is a ton of detail there and a good sense of massive scale. The greeble patterns probably needs a seperate map on the specular channel only and i think using a HDRI reflection map might make for good case of a metal surface with ansiotropic highlights. A bit of fresnel would look good. Also it appears that there is a slight bloom coming off of the hull which looks nice and makes a good case for a metal sheen.

The clouds scape at the beginning and end are Vue 7. The ocean with the island is Vue 7 and you can tell by the foam which Vue 7 has foam features which is new. The new clouds look far better then in Vue 6. They look far more like an actual object which react to light better while still being billowy and notice these clouds look more detailed as well. The marching soldiers is probably Vue 6. The energy gate is Vue 6 as i remember this from the Vue 6 presentation. Palm tree sunrise and temple looks like Vue 6. God ray hill side is Vue 6. Trees after the god ray hill side looks newer. Green hills fly overs looks like Vue 6. Under water looks like Vue 6 as i think i recall that in the old presentation. Old ship is Vue 6. Field, not certain but the river pass is Vue 6. Arctic scape looks like Vue 7 showcasing the infinite procedurals. Air liner is Vue 6.5. Old war planes are Vue 6. Interior render is probably showcasing the new radiosity engine for Vue 7. UFO is Vue 6 from the old presentation. Snow scape is probably Vue 6.

Is e-on support any help? Also have you posted this issue at the e-on cornucopia forums? I wish i could tell you what the issue is but this is an odd one to figure out.

This makes no sense, i thought internally that Vue works in 32bit so there should be no color banding period. Color bands even disappear at 16bit using the most smooth color gradients as examples. You should be rendering at a 32bit depth on default.

Quote - I feel really bad, but I forgot to take any pictures.  All I can say in my defense is that Siggraph is a visual over load.   Hope someone else remembers to take some photos.
No worries. In the age of Cell Photo Cameras and Digital Cameras were bound to see something. :)

Sorry, i thought i posted it right but judging by peggy walters reaction i may close this chapter sooner then later.
You will show some teaser pictures here, right.   :)
When you say waves you mean crashing waves i hope.  :)

Well, until Vue 7 can do something like this then i'll close that chapter.

Volume population sounds nifty. Speaking of the water system that was mentioned. Crashing waves with particle spray perhaps, i hate guessing but that would be nice to have.
I for one do not expect Vue to be an all in one (nothing out there is an all in one, not even Maya) but it's focus is creating worlds so to improve on those strengths is a given therefore adding the features we should naturally want and to enhance the existing tool sets already there. I beleave they will but curious to what extent besides what was mentioned by e-on already. It will be nice to get some videos and photos of Vue 7 after Siggraph is over with.  :)
When i said i like neither it meant that i do not refuse to use these apps but am dissapointed in the areas where they lack. I want realism but perhaps i am to picky about wanting to get things real, to real.  :/
7 versions of Vue so there should be paradigm shifts in changes for Vue by now but i don't see this as much as a huge shift as it should be. Vue 5 to 6 was a great change but i would like 6 to 7 to be that huge shift.

Get clouds equivalent to TG2, better erosion tools, add more then one sun, better rocks with lots of noise detail, trees that have none of those obvious flat leaf clusters and a more global atmosphere and i'll consider Vue 7.
And no i am not a TG2 fan boy, he heh. I actually like neither Vue or TG2 but am undecided on the two but i am more leaning to Vue then anything else. Perhaps i can get some good scenes into Maya but we will see.

Quote - As long as it's not those shysters rehashing 80s movies & trying to pass them off as new improved versions. They deserve nothing in my opinion apart from a kick up the rear.
If anyone tries to re-make Blade Runner, they will be distroyed!

Flash Gordon is produced in Canada. How would the writers strike effect that show or is the Writers Guild international?
