Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Oct 26 8:50 am)
A typical Philippe Bouyer promo. Spectacular as always ;-) What is from Vue6 and what Vue 7? I think 70% we see is from Vue6 previous promo videos. The new clouds look nice, and the indoor scenes at the end look nice too.
Mazak
This disappointed me.
70% of the scenes shown are from Vue6, the clouds are disappointing too from the fact that they hardly even improved, it still looks like the same detail and still driven by the same functions seemingly no billowy look. The indoor scene looks like something that could be done in Vue6 easily so, nothing from a technical standpoint that we couldn't do in Vue6 with normal effort.
Through the recent years, it has been shown and proven by various software- and especially game-companies that announcing products too early is a big mistake, and it seems as it is really too early for Vue7, the devs should take their time and wait to bring out material when it is viable.
On the other hand, fake? perhaps..

How DARE YOU SAY THAT!!!! when I wrote the same concepts in another thread I was almost lynched!
By the way, on E-On site they say that they will present Vue7 at Siggraph; may be we all didn't understand that they were talking about Siggraph Asia (Dec 10, 2008) or Siggraph 2009...
I think that we all should accept the fact that the jump 6->7 is NOT going to be so significant as the 5->6 one and stop moaning.
Bye!
P.S.: clouds ARE better, their edges are much fuzzier than before.
GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2
Xpleet, I don't understand some things. Everyone was moaning that there was no info on Vue7, then this little video came out unofficially, showing or not showing the new Vue7 features. It was never said that this was the Vue7 that will be released, every topic from the people who were at Siggraph stated this was an early beta that was previewed, and now you say that Vue7 is disappointing, how do you know anything about Vue7?
And how can you say that e-on made a mistake showing Vue7 too early, they didn't show it at all to you or me. They showed a preview of the present Vue7 beta at Siggraph, stating that this was indeed a beta as of yet.
They announced Vue7 for the end of the year, not the end of august. Where is the mistake?
What is your point here?
Quote - and now you say that Vue7 is disappointing
jeez,
i said the video is disappointing.

Lolll i remember the day I started the thread about my critics on Vue clouds
Quote - P.S.: clouds ARE better, their edges are much fuzzier than before.
I didn't see it then, ytb video :P. The lighting in the vid where you're over the clouds comes from in front or behind the cam, which is a typical trick for hiding detail that isn't there :P, i can assume but i don't know. I want to see billowy clouds :) .
Can't wait to see clouds with the sharpness slider cranked up.

lol
I'd say this video is a fake. 99% of it shows older work done by Philippe Bouyer in Vue 5 & 6. Also, the quality of the video is poor and is too similar to the Vue Infinite 6 video. Don't be fooled by this video it's easy to composite the vue 7 logo onto an old video.
Also, Philippe Bouyer wouldn't put out something of that low quality IMO.
Looks Fake IMO.
Unfortunately, in another thread I posted the URL of an image of E-On booth in which you can see a monitor showing something tagged with Vue7 and the screenshot is exactly compatible with the YouTube movie.
It is not fake, I am sure that E-On had to work an awful lot to perform xStream integration in other apps and therefore the features which interest us have been left behind. Thes only way for E-On to give us a significant set of new features is to delay Vue7 up to summer '09; if they stick to a 1Q09 release, we might even not get all that was announced.
The most damning evidence of deep trouble is that NO test renders have been posted.
Bye...

There's a great review of what one visitor to the e-on booth at SigGraph thought of Vue7 over at Cornucopia. I suggest if anyone's really interested, they should check it out.Or, of course continued speculation regarding the quality and intentions of Vue7 are probably even more fun for some.

...personal defamation of me included. B.t.w., the ongoing total silence and absolute lack of Vue7 demo renders suggest to anybody capabable of indipendent (i.e. non-fanboy) thinking that something is severely wrong with this situation.

me, I'd rather they concentrate on bug stomping rather than showing me pretty pictures of something that might be completely different when it gets out of beta but that's just me

It's not necessary to call anyone names. Most of us here at Rendo Vue community have been around for some time, and have figured out how to help each other and provide support for Vue. Calling members 'fanboys', certainly does not promote a civil and community spirit.
I'm curious, what is the logic behind your conclusion "something is severely wrong with this situation?"

About calling names, my nickname has been posted on the Curnucopia thread you mentioned with derogatory comments associated, so I AM THE FIRST ONE who has been INSULTED and I am just trying to DEFEND myself.
I understand that in a very competitive environment one might be secretive w.r.t. what he is developing but, as soon as one has shown the product in a world class event like SIGGRAPH there is no logical (or at least understandable) reason not to give further information either on the firm website or with a controlled release of information from alpha/beta testers.
Even in the case of Terragen2 (one of the worst delayed programs I know of) there have been more information (for a couple of years, on Luc Bianco website you could see astonishing renders which hinted at what Terragen 2 could do).
I remember Vue6 rollout: immediately after SIGGRAPH 06 a comprehesive (and new...) video from Belino.net was available and, if I remember well, there were detailed information on E-On website.
Now I am not requesting the spectacular openess of L3DT (http://www.bundysoft.com/L3DT/) developer who releases frequent public betas and has a PUBLIC (and frequently updated) todo list in the program wiki, or the frequent blogging from the World Machine developer, I think that telling everybody who didn't go to SIGGRAPH some like "hey, bunch of suckers who put out of the wallet the credit card in the past, we are doing this and this and this, here are a few render and a couple of videos, drool upon them and shut up because we haven't the slightest idea of release date" wouldn't be so earth-shaking... it's just customer relations, nothing special.
Silence make you think: why aren't they telling anything? what's the problem? I have enough grey hair to know that even when you assume the worst you are always too optimistic so the math is simple.
... no, I am not writing "bye".
P.S.: Vue 7 has been photographed and there are eye witnesses; the same can be said for UFO, little grey men, Yeti's, the Lockness monster, ghosts, etc. etc. I cite the words that skeptic.com has for the recent Bigfoot news: "Show Me the Body".

Alex,
The only reference I found regarding your name in the Cornucopia thread is Pam's comment:
Quote - Contrary to Mr. alexcoppo's comments. upon meeting most of the staff in person for the first time, I am quite impressed with how much Vue is a labor-of-love for the president of the company, and everyone involved.
Which frankly didn't seem at all derogatory to me. Furthermore, in a thread here at Rendo Pam also said:
Quote - Sorry Alexcoppo, I am not making a personal attack on you. Am disagreeing with your blanket assertion that the only motive for making software is to make money. Your comments were very reasonable and clearly a personal opinion. It is simply that I found this assertion to not be relevant to the Vue staff, and it is reasonable to report back that it doesn't seem to apply well to these people.
So it seems you are still quite upset.
You say:
Quote - Vue 7 has been photographed and there are eye witnesses; the same can be said for UFO, little grey men, Yeti's, the Lockness monster, ghosts, etc. etc.
There are a 'few' features shown in the Vue7 video, the interior room rendering, the new clouds and the infinite terrains. I doubt very much any of it could have been done unless a Vue7 beta was being worked on.
Quote - There is so much bugs in Vue I don't understand how they can add new features. They are not serious because each new update breaks something that was working before... I think they'd better review their developpement process and make 1 year of refactoring and testing.
I haven't noticed many bugs but maybe I don't drive it hard enough

These features are all in beta, so, it's easier for Phoul to re-do existing stuff, than newer stuff, I'd expect.
there maybe other features nto yet announced.
Fanboy...yeah I rememebr bing called that on the Everquest boards, because I sat down, and worked out how to do things...rather than moan me arse off, fruitlessly ;)
And last thing I was was a fan of the devs, grrr!!!!!!!!
See "gates of Discord" expansion for Everquest, as to what occurs when devs dont' listen to testers evil grin
Vue5 Ininite pissed me of HUGELY, due to the bugs. didn't use it for several months I was so mad and frustrated :/
Vue6Infinite has been very stable/good for me for many months.
Sorry if it isn't for some folk.
Go read the forums for other apps and see how happy they all are....

Never had that bug (at least as far as I'm aware, Vue6I crashed a LOT in first few months though), MAC or PC, V6 infinite or another version?
I know that larger RAM footprints help a ton with memory leaks. Foud that out hard with games, and seems to apply to apps too.
Is that what you mean? :)

Quote - since when have they fixed the interface bug that overloads it's memory and crashes the application + bonus* chance on killing the saved file aswell?
I'm having atleast 9 incrementals per 4 hour project..
I imagine you're pushing it too hard in some way or another. Check the size of your texture maps, then the number of instances of eco-systems. Or parametric terrains? There are plenty of shortcuts for all of these problems-- if you need any help with them just ask.
The clouds scape at the beginning and end are Vue 7. The ocean with the island is Vue 7 and you can tell by the foam which Vue 7 has foam features which is new. The new clouds look far better then in Vue 6. They look far more like an actual object which react to light better while still being billowy and notice these clouds look more detailed as well. The marching soldiers is probably Vue 6. The energy gate is Vue 6 as i remember this from the Vue 6 presentation. Palm tree sunrise and temple looks like Vue 6. God ray hill side is Vue 6. Trees after the god ray hill side looks newer. Green hills fly overs looks like Vue 6. Under water looks like Vue 6 as i think i recall that in the old presentation. Old ship is Vue 6. Field, not certain but the river pass is Vue 6. Arctic scape looks like Vue 7 showcasing the infinite procedurals. Air liner is Vue 6.5. Old war planes are Vue 6. Interior render is probably showcasing the new radiosity engine for Vue 7. UFO is Vue 6 from the old presentation. Snow scape is probably Vue 6.

It's fake. I saw that video over two years ago.

Anyone have the ORIGINAL marching soldiers, and "energy gate" scenes, to compare them, to see if there's something different? :)
IIRC, didn't the marching soldiers have no flying ships overhead?? not sure on that as that was Vue5I, iirc?

I checked the situation using my recollections of what I had seed on belino.net
Overall, if E-On people had only show new renders, it would have been a quite impressive demo.

Not much news, but at least it's a sign of life from e-on ;-)
I think that the real emphasis is on integration with other apps, especially for architects. I think that it would have been less confusing to call it Vue6 Architects Edition.

Shonner,
Generally, NDAs mean you cannot say ANYTHING about it, whether being in a beta, or not in a beta, until released from it (I've beta'd lots of games)
For the record I'm not currently in a Vue beta or alpha.
Alexcoppo,
most of life is attitude, not reality.
Poor attitudes can affect your health and achievements (seriously).
I alway slook at the glass being half full, though with my luck, be half full of pee! :D
