Quote - (KC/s) / (KS/s) x 100 = %Eff
Order of precendence being:
((KC/s)/(KS/s))*100 = %eff
or
(KC/s)/((KS/s)*100)=%eff
?
(sorry, in Calc class right now)

Hmm. Is anyone else experiencing issues with Hybrid mode when using the Sun light? I just tried that car scene (from a few pages back) with Hybrid and Lux1.1. The Sky light worked fine, but the Sun light put out no light whatsoever. I tried it in Lux1.0 rc1, same thing. I turned off hybrid, and it worked again. Either it's a Lux issue or it's my old POS nvidia 9500 GT.
It's not like I get a great boost from such an old card to make it critical, but it is irritating.

Quote - Oh the difference 7 1/2 months, 600 plus renders, several newer versions of lux & getting better at adjusting materials & lighting can make.
I went through an old 500G external drive yesterday and found some old scenes I had backed up.
Boom, Paolo, Micheal & possibly Reggie & James were around and may remember this scene driving me ape sh*t because renders would take me 3 days with this room.
Well this is after 10 MINUTES! with lux 1.1 (I would render it to term but have commish projects I need to render before I go out of town on Sunday) Needless to say I am gald my perseverance & the help of you great folks has paid off. So many thanks!
I remember that one, too.

Just slightly off topic, but.....
Can anyone point me at a good workflow tutorial for taking a created object (unrigged) from Blender into DS4 and rigging it? I want to start branching out into modeling for poser/DS items.
I know how to export as OBJ from Blender, and I know how to import an OBJ into DS4. The ins and outs of material assignment inside Blender I am familiar with (including UV mapping in Blender), but does anyone know if anything special needs to be done when preparing for export to DS4 to keep material zones assigned?
And the big thing is setting up the rigging using DS4 Pro and the content creation tools. I have no idea where to begin with those...

God, I remember messing with assembly language back in the 90s. One of my first college programming courses. I used the built in dos text editor (can't even remember what it was called. I just typed in "edit" at the prompt and up it came) to edit autoexec.bat to load things during post.

What I do to create a normal map is, I take either the diffuse texture or the bump map into GIMP. If it is the diffuse, I then run the Normal Map plugin (not included, but available online from here). I usually choose Prewitt 3x3, as it doesn't make it over powering. Prewitt 5x5 makes it pop more, but it can look pretty fugly, too. The normal map tutorials I've seen also mention using the green channel when using the original texture.
If it's the bump map, I first invert the colors (colors->invert), then I run the normal map plugin with the same settings as before.

Quote - I haven't played with that particular model, but on my monitor, I can definitely see your glass coloring already on both the car and the headwear; just needs longer to cook. Glass always takes awhile to clear up, (second only to fog, of course) so I say your material setting is solid. At your resolution, it's tought to tell when that may occur, however. ('Course you probably already know this ;-) )
On a separate note for anyone else, I'm curious as to the reason for the huge resolution renders. I know I've beat this horse before, but I still stand by letting a render half the size run longer (like 3-5ks/pixel) than blow it up with software later at 3-400 dpi. Outside of printing or digital reproduction use for such a size, I'm just wondering why delegate the extra time and resources to a hobby render.
Edit: Forgot to add, have you played with the thin film at all? 125-350 makes a nice range of colors, and you can add the secondary IOR.
Actually, I did play a bit with it on the glass, just for S&Gs. Didn't set it to anywhere near high enough, I guess. As for the resolution, I wanted something that someone could use as a 16x10 desktop wallpaper at high res. I could use 1440X810, I guess. It would certainly finish much faster.

Quote - mbin.. i am too.. since she's been so patient with all of my computer shenanigans.. think i might give the wife first crack at it though. she's been dying to do some big, involved scenes and every time she tries.. on her computer she gets like 2 or 3/k s/s.. gets frustrated at only having a hundred passes or so after a full day and just goes on to something more simple. she's got a ton of saved scenes that i'd like to see fully rendered. so now, instead of it taking weeks to render them.. it'll only take a few hours.
I wish my wife was like that. I can't upgrade my system yet, since we have other things that take priority (food, rent, electricity, diapers). Fortunately, my borther in law is planning on upgrading his system soon, so he'll send my his old parts. Should be an I7 and maybe 8GB RAM. I'll need a new Mobo myself when that happens.

Why you using RC1? I see you had issues with the materials on the couch / bed
Just haven't upgraded yet. As for the textures on the couch, it's a freebie, so it's just low poly. I decided not to postwork it out.

I was just checking my Daz Studio dynamic cloth plugin. In an earlier version of DS4, no freebie cloth would collide with V4. That doesn't seem to be a problem now.
Big thanks to Adam Thwaites for his free poses. I modified his V4 lying on the floor one (I can't remember the link, but it's on his site under freebies) so that it look more natural.
Single light source, Paolo's Softbox prop for Reality.
The scene is in a cube primitive, and I set the walls to be matte, since I was getting too many fireflies with glossy.
Render via DS4->Reality2->LuxRender RC1, up to 150 S/P.
Not too bad for only 150 S/p. No postwork other than sig.

Quote - > Quote - Ok, so I’ve been a bit too busy to be posting (that, and the network at work is very restrictive). Of course, that doesn’t mean I haven’t done a few renders in the past few months.
(By the way, I haven’t yet upgraded to DS 4.5 and Reality 2.5. Anyone here who can tell me what the additional benefits are to doing so?)
Hey John, so nice to see you again. I was wondering what happened to ya.
DS4.5 has several bug fixes that you might find useful. Reality 2.5 is the version that works wit that, no special features just a recompilatioin to make it work with the latest from DAZ.
Cheers
I'm only kinda back. The next semester starts on Monday, so I'll only have intermittent time to do things. This semester is Differential Calculus, Data Structure for programming, and Operating System Concepts.
Yeah, My time will be pretty much gone. That, and the girls are getting bigger and want more of my time, and work is getting busier.

Here’s a little one that was inspired by the old Tarzan novels (I’ve actually been reading them from Project Gutenberg). Yeah, it’s a mostly naked Vickie with a sword. So sue me.
