Has anyone noticed that under each entry in the 2D category that the member names are being displayed. I was under the impression that entries were meant to be anonymous so that the community votes would be fair. The usernames are not being displayed under the other categories!
Thread: Should Daz Sell Carrara And, If Yes, Who Should It Sell It To? | Forum: Carrara
Quote - Look at this app: http://www.cheetah3d.com/ list of features. It is priced at $99.- (Occasionally discounted to $69.-). In every respect it beats Carrara, but it's Mac only and does not have Poser compatibility.
Thanks for the heads up on this dr_bernie - I just downloaded the demo and it looks fantastic! I had no idea this package existed before today. Looks like I'm going to have to get my wallet out and buy yet another 3D package :-(

What I can't understand is why DAZ felt they had to develop DAZ Studio in the first place. Its a much inferior product in terms of rendering power compared to Carrara. I know DAZ is about selling content and they probably created Studio as an alternative to Poser to house their content but if they had put that effort into developing cararra, imagine what it could have been by now!? They could have then offered three Carrara versions (Free, Standard and Pro), the free one allowing them to load their content and provide the features Daz Studio provides now and going all the way up to Pro with dynamics and advanced rendering etc.

Thanks for all your responses. Its a shame it doesn't support it but, I have a copy of Poser 7 so maybe I'll reinstall that.
Thanks everyone

Thelby, Thats only for Platinum members- for the rest of us the sale price is $149. I'd say they'll do a special price nearer release date

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll just sit it out and see if they reduce the price of C7 nearer the release of C8. I'm not in any real hurry...
Thread: Winners of the 2007 "Dinner with the Dead" Halloween Contest | Forum: Contest Announcements
DoZZeR - apology accepted! ;-)
Actually can I just explain my image to you a bit to show that it does in fact fit in with the theme. The title was Dinner with the Dead. The image depicts someone (a dead person) preparing a dinner for some zombie friends (as in the caption). The humour (albeit mild) is the use of everyday modern Curry Powder (Extra Hot) amongst all the exotic halloween flavourings (eye of newt, minced worms etc...). Maybe I should have explained it in the blurb a bit more but I really did think that it fitted in with the required theme. I created the image from scratch specifically for this contest.
Oh well, its over now - guess I'll try and explain the image a bit better in my next one
Cheers :-)

ONE BIG RESPONSE
Thanks for your comments DoZZeR - you are entitled to your opinions of course but I do feel you were a little harse-particularly on me...!
Firstly this was a particular challenge for me since it was done using MODO (not 3DSMax!) - a package that I bought a couple of weeks before I entered the competition. Yes its a testament to the package more than anything else that I could produce a respectable looking picture with such a short learning curve but I still had to put a pretty big effort personally into producing it.
More than the picture, I also hoped that the concept was something unique too ( I certainly didn't expect to win on natural artistic ability!) - maybe it wasn't to your taste but whatever it was something struck a chord with the judges.Remember, the contest asked for the artists 'interpretation' of dinner with the dead -that doesn't necessarily mean having to literally have a dead person sitting at a table having dinner!
Maybe I should I just be thankful that you weren't on the judging panel! Perhaps you could post a link to your entry DoZZeR so the rest of us could have an opportunity to comment on that (or at least see what the 'perfect' entry should have looked like) . ;-)
TO THE REST OF THE WINNERS: Congratulations - hope you enjoy your prizes. Not sure if you are allowed to swap parts of prizes but as I already own Manga Studio - if anyone wants to swap any part of their prize for it please PM me . If no-one wants to swap I'm happy enough to give it away- again PM me if you're interested (it would be a shame to see it go to waste).
Thanks Renderosity for the contest - I've been entering contests for years and had almost given up hope of winning anything with so many great artists on this site-the moral is, never give up hope! :-)
Thread: Modo Forum? | Forum: Suggestion Box
Hi
I'd like to add my support for a Modo forum and gallery. Just downloaded a demo of version 203 and was so blown away - pre-ordered version 301.
Some of the renders from this package are stunning - true photo realism!
If you haven't seen the possibilities - check out this gallery

Thread: Vue6.10 and Poser 6 SR3 Problem | Forum: Vue
Actually, I think the issue to my problem was the graphics card. If I turn off both hardware and software OpenGL then a Poser6 import and render using Vue6 works fine. Question now is, is it the graphics card or Vue 6 that's not handling open GL in the standard way???
FYI, my graphics card is a NVIDIA FX1500 (installed on the Dell Precision M90 laptop)

I actually was hoping to win any of the prizes EXCEPT the grand prize. There were a lot of very good entries so I didn't for a minute think I would win. The first prize was $250 cash plus $100 in gift vouchers and there were varying prizes all the way down to the runners up which I was hoping to get. I posted a message over at RDNA asking if anyone wanted to swap their prize for mine but there were no takers - so I guess no-one really wanted to win these. Not that I'm ungrateful - its just that as I already have Poser 7 I'd like to get something for winning rather than nothing. Just thought someone here may want the chance to pick up a cheap legitimate, registerable full copy of Poser 7 as well as the other stuff - its not every day you get that chance.
Ashley - thanks for your kind offer but I already have a few in the queue ahead of you offering to take them off my hand rather than cluttering up my hard-drive. Just goes to show how little value people put on Poser 7. Its not that bad honestly!!!
