But why does art need to validate itself with meaning? You can apply meaning to anything you do. Does that make it art? Is the Mona Lisa less magical because it's just portrait of a woman? Should we ignore the wondrous still-lifes of Jean-Baptiste Chardin just because they're of everyday objects?

You want this to happen in real-time as you're painting? If so, I don't think you'll get the effect from a Photoshop plug-in. I can only suggest you have a look at some stand-alone Texture Tiling software. Or look for an old PC version of Dpaint.

I wouldn't worry about it Eowyn. Sounds to me like he/she is having a bad day. Maybe they didn't get a Valentine's card. :) I haven't seen the pic in question but I'd trust your judgement. Hey but remember people, not all of us are chasing photo-realism. As Jules Feiffer put it: "Artists can colour the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must colour things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid."

Why do you need such a program? It wouldn't make much sense as a code. Okay, Red would = 27(26?) but so would AZ, BY, etc... It would probably be better to encode RED as 170504. A form of encoding already exists for letters, numbers and symbols. It's called ASCII/ANSI. Load a text file into a HEX editor and see for yourself.

Sorry Jim. I meant for fixing the count on files uploaded between Aug 02/05. I was unaware that earlier counts had been damaged. Doesn't matter now. New solution is much better than the 'Nuke'Em All' idea. Phew, good work rcook :)
