You can't get computers to get a DC,Marvel, etc etc inked look ,So Don't bother trying. Just find some cool look with filters. don't worry about inked look at all.
ZBrush matcaps get pretty close, if not indistinguishable, from retro style comics to the more modern looks.
Some examples using a set of free comic shaders in zbrush: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odajX0JmB6I
Search youtube for a host of other methods for getting line art and cell shaded rendering from zbrush and other packages, even DS and Poser. Black Sun Comics does a pretty nice job using DS and photoshop.
Should also be noted, Marvel and DC have been using 3D models in a number of their titles for years now.
It's the 'realism' renders you don't see a whole lot of in the comic world cause they just don't seem to be as appealing to a wide audience as the more traditional line art work. Except when it comes to the adult comics, then that's a bit different. But if it's done well, and it's not obvious you're using one of the stock figures in the work then it might gain traction. I just see a whole lot of poser-rendered amateur comics online where it's extremely obvious which figures are being used. A lot of them don't even bother morphing V4 or M4 to look like someone other than V4 or M4, even using their default textures. But when its done well, you often can't tell if the line art was drawn by hand or rendered from a 3D model.
There are several options in Poser. I used the Superfly render and layered it with the comic book shader in preview mode

This is great! Everyone has their own reasons for the workflow they use. Brian Haberlin who created Anomaly prefered to combine digital techniques with traditional with hand painting as well as digital painting to make it more organic and tactile (if I remember what he said, please correct me if you like, I don't recall exactly). In doing so he switched back and forth between tools and techniques to get what he wanted.
A lot of people have their own workflow as I said. Perhaps if our users who create graphic novels and comics could come in and voice their preferences we can help our member with his new project.
I've started working on a graphic novel using Cycles toon shader
Thread: Poser 11/Poser 11 Pro: Bug Reports | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have a huge problem with Poser 11. When I go to render it gets stuck on "Starting" I can't cancel the render nor can I close the program. I have to start a task manager and end the process . When I open Poser 11 back up the render is completed or at least partially completed in the render cache.

Interested. Where can they be seen (any renders with) or picked up if available?
I'll have to make a render for you, I recently upgraded fro Poser 10 to 11, I had to reinstall all of my content.I haven't reimported or rescaled them yet. I'll add that for today's to do list.
The ones that work the best are the below elbow and below knee amputations.
I am interested in these as well. I look forward to your upload. You can make them available in our free stuff area, or provide a link to ShareCG if you prefer. Thank you for sharing these with the community.
The problem is that re-scaling them to fit exactly right is next to impossible, I will be making some morphs after I upgrade to Poser 11 pro. That being said check out these free downloads http://www.sharecg.com/v/86798/browse/11/Poser/Shawn-V4.2-Free-Character They have a few bugs to work out, and they might just as well be stand alone figures. What I had to do was to inject the V4 morphs ++ and manually zero all of the morphs, and then save them as a separate figure, but once that is done they work fantastically. Now those work great for congenital amputees, but for acquired ones you would have to but these products: http://www.renderotica.com/store/sku/45101_VNLM-s-AlterBODY and http://www.renderotica.com/store/sku/45104_VNLM-s-Amputation-V4. I hope that this helps.

Thread: Figure Shaders script at a testing point | Forum: Blender
RobynsVeil posted at 10:57AM Sat, 10 December 2016 - #4290855
I haven't actually tried that exporter, so I'm not sure what it yields in terms of figure in Blender. This script uses the skin, eye and whatever texture files to paint a shader on your figure. There's a lot yet to do, but so far, it works. Which OS? Windows? should work. Please let me know ... and if you run into dramas, please let me know what they are.
The MDD exporter will export the materials in a local images folder in the same directory that you want to export the figure and the animation. There is a learning curve, I can help you save a lot of frustration by teaching the basics. I use Windows 7 64 bit intel core i5
Thread: How Reliable do you find DSON Import of G2F in Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
whbos posted at 12:34AM Fri, 25 November 2016 - #4210288
I haven't had any major issues with the Poser DSON importer. I've even been fortunate to either export props out of DAZ Studio as scenes (CR2) then import into Poser, or clothes that don't come with Poser Companion Files. However, I find Ralf Sesseler's DSON Loader Python script does a much better job than DS.
Since these are the only options for Poser users to import Genesis models, I can't complain. I don't really care about Victoria 7 anyway. I just started using Genesis about a month ago and will grab everything I can until the G2 models run out of clothes because it seems they probably won't be supported much longer.
But there's a never ending supply of V4 clothes.
Thread: How Reliable do you find DSON Import of G2F in Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There is a reason why I stick with M4 and V4 content and refuse to buy anything Genesis, and that's because they don't need a DSON importer that never works. Program files is where Poser keeps it's runtime directories, so either way it doesn't work.
Thread: Import Poser characters into Blender so that the characters and materials render | Forum: Blender

Would your script do anything about all that myTexture.jpg, myTexture.jpg.001, myTexture.jpg.002, myTexture.jpg.003, myTexture.jpg.004, myTexture.jpg.005, myTexture.jpg.006, myTexture.jpg.007 nonsense that gets generated when you import an OBJ that reuses texture files, 3DOutlaw?
Cleaning up that mess is the most LABORIOUS job ever... trying to do this scene:
...a scene I did in Poser, in Blender has been an exercise in frustration. Putting a decent shader and all that on the mesh is trivial compared to dealing with all those unused texture files: that's driving me barmy!
Try this and see how it works. http://www.vuescripts.com/_A/index.php?id=1,0,0,1,0,0 I've been using it for over a year, so you can contact me if you have any issues.

I use the MDD exporter, It has it's own bugs, but this sounds way more complicated than it needs to be.
Thread: Figure Shaders script at a testing point | Forum: Blender
I use the MDD exporter to import Poser figures and animation into Blender, One of the more annoying things is (especially with Cycles) is I have to add all the materials manually, and for some reason it likes to invert the grey-scale maps (Solution is in the node editor to add an invert color)
Is your script compatible with the MDD exporter, because the built in export options for Poser will only export "figures" not props into Blender.
Thread: Vue vs Bryce? | Forum: Vue

Quote - I can't comment on Vue vs. Bryce, having never used Bryce, but from experience you will probably want the Vue Ecosystem module. I started out with Vue d'esprit but soon learned that Ecosystem was necessary for realistic scenes. Otherwise you have to place hundreds or thousands of individual plants yourself. Look at the price of Vue d'esprit plus Ecosystem module vs. buying Vue Studio. Hope this helps.
Thanks, this is helpfull. I couldn't help but wonder how you shrink a $1400 program down to $199 without a great deal of comprimises. Seems you have to customize the program for your needs. I'll have a look at the gallery as another poster suggested to see if I can get some more insight. I'm having trouble downloading the trial version.
I was getting back to Bryce after a many year absence and was a bit put off by the fact that the interface didn't seem to have been updated much. It forces a full screen, doesn't have multiple viewing angles, and the icons around the edges are miniscule on my 20". Somebody please straighten me out if those can be adjusted.
There no way I can afford $1400, but in three months I can save maybe half of that, so is it possible to buy the basic version and upgrade bit by bit? The two biggest disadvantages for Bryce is I can't import Poser animation and the render time is way to long. It took me 14 hours to render a 30 second scene, (but the result was beautiful)

I already have Portia hair and that's perfect for Hilary. Politics aside, because it doesn't matter if you for him or against him, if he gets the presidency, there will be a huge market for political cartoons. Love him or hate him The Donald will be a goldmine for us artists.

If anyone is interested I've made some amputee props for V4. I they are for lower amputations.
