You probably need Camera Raw 7.1 to get support for the D3200.
If this is not compatible with CS5 then I'd suggest downloading Adobe's free DNG Converter 7.1 which supports the D3200 RAW files and will convert them to DNG format which should work in CS5.Â

There is a review of this at the attached link.I think I'll be adding it to my wishlist.

There is a review of the Spyder 3 Express at the attached link, apparantly it doesn't support dual monitors. You would need to spend a bit more on the Spyder 3 Pro for that.I believe you will also need to buy the Pantone Huey Pro for multi monotor support rather than the standard version.

Thread: New cameras vs hdr from exposures | Forum: Photography
For in camera HDR I think Fuji are working along the right lines with their EXR sensors.
These take two images at the same time overexposing half the pixels and under exposing the other half and then combining the two images in camera.
From the reviews I've seen it seems to work well and has the advantage that it works with moving subjects as both images are created at the same time.
The downside is that it halves the pixel count of the final image, is only available as JPEG output and at the moment  is only available on a few smaller sensor cameras.Â
An 18+ megapixel DSLR outputting 9+ megapixel HDR images would be an interesting proposition using this sort of sensor imo.
Thread: Compressed RAW..a good, bad or neutral choice? | Forum: Photography
Quote - Agreed, the max frame rate would be associated with a jpg file.Â
OTOH, comparing RAW with compressed RAW, I would expect the frame rate for RAW to be less than the frame rate for compressed RAW.Â
--Martin
For most current DSLR cameras the max frame rate is almost the same whether shooting in RAW or JPEG (at least if judging from the manufacturers specs).
What is usually limited by shooting RAW is the number of shots you can take before the frame rate slows down due to buffer in the camera filling up.
For instance my Sony A200 will shoot at around 3fps in both RAW and JPEG, but wheras it can shoot at this rate until the memory card is full in JPEG mode it will only take about 7 pictures before slowing down when shooting RAW even with the fastest memory cards available.
A compressed RAW format should allow you to keep shooting at maximum speed for longer than with uncompressed RAW but in most DSLRcameras will have a minimal effect on the maximum frame rate which can be achieved.

Are both CPUs Intel/AMD?
If the 2.2Ghz Quad is an AMD it would explain the difference (AMD quad cores are slower than the Intel equivalent).
Otherwise it's probably the memory available per core or maybe the cores competing for the cache on the Quad core causing the slowdown.
Thread: New monitors ??? | Forum: Vue
The problem could be in the windows settings for the display.
On my 8800GT if I go into display settings>advanced>monitor there is an option to "hide modes this monitor cannot display".
If I clear the check box then I'm given the option to chose 1920x1080 as an output even though my monitor doesn't support anything above 1680x1050.
This card is connected via DVI and uses driver v169.25.Â
I've just checked and my old 6800GT with v84.21 drivers using a aVGA connection will allow me to choose a 1920x1080 output as well if you uncheck the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" box.

Sounds like it's down to the graphic card/driver settings. If you go to the NVidia control panel there should be an option to "manage custom timings" or similar .
If you check the HDTV Â box and enable 60Hz you should be able to force a 1920x1080p setting on the graphic card.
I can't give you any more details as my 8800GTcard is currently connected to a standard P'n'P monitor and won't allow me play too much.Â
1900x1200 won't harm the TV, it just rescales it to 1900x1080 and causes the text to look poor.Â
Edit: attached link may help.Â

How are you connecting the computer to the TV?
If you are using the VGA input on the TV then it may not support the Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, it's hard to tell without knowing the model number of your TV .
You may need to connect using a DVI to HDMI cable/converter to get the full resolution.
Also if the TV has a 1:1 pixel mapping mode you should probably turn this on to stop the TV applying it's picture processing to everything.Â

Keep an eye out for issue 100 of 3D World magazine.
It has a free copy of Carrara 5 Pro on the cover disc and if you register that version then there is an offer to upgrade to Carrara 6 Pro (download version) for $125/£75.

In the U.K. I'd also have a look at http://www.scan.co.uk/ and http://www.armari.co.uk/ both offer a wide range of configurable systems and have a good reputation.
Thread: Can Vue actually make non-grainy renders? | Forum: Vue
As someone who has Vue6 Esprit, Terragen 2TP, Bryce 5.5, Carrara 5 and Mojoworld 3 (though I haven't posted images with most of them) I'd like to make a few comments about render quality. The first is that there is a difference between renders which contain "volumetrics" and those which don't. Generally (with regard to the applications I use) increasing "global" settings on non-volumetric renders usually gets rid of any "nasties" if the settings are high enough. With volumetric renders it's often (in my experience) more important to get the quality setting for clouds, light, etc. correct first and then set the global render qualities. This approach also helps reduce render times. (why increase quality everywhere when all you need to to is increase cloud quality?). In Mojoworld/Carrara/Terragen my problem has been the noise in the Volumetrics rather than any global issue. When considering Vue renders, a lot of the default scenes/settings tend to render with grain/noise visible at the defaults (imo). It would be better (imo) if the "defaults" rendered without the grain/noise rather than relying on the user to learn how to correct the problem (though I do accept that some things are scene dependant). Thread: World Machine and Vue? | Forum: Vue
To import World Machine terrains into Vue you should try the Povray-TGA option when saving the terrain in World Machine. It works in Vue 5, but I don't have Vue 4 to test.
