someone else suggested i look for database software with "single instance storage" which they said is what i was describing o.0 for the existing in multiple locations
aside from that, biggest thing i want though is completely viewable through windows explorer n such though (thus so any program can view it)

well i'm sorting files by hand, its just i need some type of software to add the structure i need :)
Thread: 8core speed | Forum: Carrara
im more interested in the cpu :P 8 cores? 1 cpu? as far as i knew, quad core was still the limit, uh without going to NASA =P looks for an 8 core cpu to buy now
though if by 8 cores you ment including networked computers, that would also explain some of the speed issue
have a test that takes about 60 sec to render to see the differences between computers/software, 6-7 sec way too short :)

500GB/month? pfft that would only fill up a 1/4 of my hd space -_- 4 months is too long to do it ;x

my poser runtime thats on the hd only has the basic figures / daz figures / etc with their morphs, so loading is nearly instant, then a DVD with external runtime for each catagory.
so very easy to find what i want
key is just finding a good system to sort stuff =P

the lighting options and rendering in C6 is far worth the price to me
i still pose stuff in poser, and work on some basic material designs that carrara doesn't have the control for, just rendering them as a lone background, then use it as a texture map, works nice
but i doubt i'll render accual scenes in it anymore, just pose stuff, dynamic hair/cloth, export to C6, add the lights and materials, C6 has fire and water primitive :) and render
Thread: creating morphs in C6? | Forum: Carrara
i created the base model, and saved as obj, simple sliding window in closed position
then edited it to the "open" position, and saved as obj again
the first time, the base was done but i had to save and leave, then later created open, 2nd time around i tried it all in 1 session to be sure that nothing was changed between the 2 steps
as for importing, tried it both ways =P first time around that stuff doesnt work right off, i click random options to see effect, just to rule out difference between the modelling apps. neither worked =S

usual use of a render farm is for animations, since thousands of frames while maybe only 3-4 minutes per, adds up, and cutting the time down is always good
but depending on the render settings, a single pic can takes up to hours to render, since quality is more important to single pics than a moving animation, making a render farm nearly as useful

Quote - Morph targets in Carrara are super easy. 1) in the Vetex Room, select the polygons you want to morph 2) From the Morph tab, select Create 3) Name the Morph area 4) From the Current Area pull down, select Create Target 5) Name Target 6) Push the Edit button, the effect polys turn green, distort to desired form 7) Select Validate. (or save morph target if you want) 8) Back in the Assembly Room from the morph list, select the designator and a slider appears that you can control the morph with. Have fun. It's addictive.
i followed each step, but since the model i am using is 2 parts (base and target shape) in step 6 i clicked edit and load instead, and loaded the target shape, rest of steps i followed
as i understand it, that should work :S but while the vertices are in correct spots, the connections between them got placed randomly, so instead of opening/closing the window (model i'm testing this with) it looks like an abstract mess of shapes o.o
Thread: good quality (realistic looking) stone shader? | Forum: Carrara
yes precedurals are what i want, my bad for not mentioning =P
personally i hate texture maps for any case, aside from greyscale control maps for impossible-to-create patterns
thanks for the setup, i'll play around it. again the colors don't matter to me since i can easily switch them to what i wish - another reason i prefer to avoid texture maps - and what i've been working on mainly is trying to achieve a good dark greenish, or mixed with white veins, mainly a good looking pattern, the "marble effects" such as sss and shininess can go on anything (:
