In this case I was asking about the transparent plastic effect for sexy plastic clothes, which as Bill's link explains is not something that is all that intuitive to create. I think your talking about a general overal plastic look which is of course another matter.
I would still like to learn how Bill came up with that formula though :-)

I turned transluceny all the way up. I also linked the alternate specular to several different lighting type nodes. No change in the material displayed on screen. The only thing that seems to effect it is transparency which you said is not a factor.
Does Poser ship with any plsatic type clothing, or - any other hints?
Thanks

Thread: Poser Rendering insanely slow? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
PC.
OK I tested it both ways. 5 threads, then 12. Suprisingly, 12 threads was slower! AND it utilized all 6 cores at 100% till I cancelled, where with 5 threads it was around 83% on 5 cores. Weird.
Anyway, neither change really solved the issue. I guess C4D just has a faster engine. Not too big a deal for me, but I feel for others in this boat that have to render everything in Poser.
Another thing I noticed - Poser seems to take forever to load texture/jpg files on the first render. InterPoser in C4D is faster there too, so odd.
Please fon't get me wrong, I am enjoying the heck out of Poser, and I think they have done a great job putting a lot of power into an interface that is on the surface at least, simple and very user friendly.
Thanks again for the inputs.

Pro 2010.
Ah, great, I was hoping I had missed something about the number of threads. Great tip, will give that a shot.
Thanks.
Thread: Best way to modify textures? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK thanks all for the greart answers. Looks like I will stay with BodyPaint Projection painting and keep pluging away.

Ah, Zbrush. I forgot about that one. I may have to try that out again and compare it with Bodypaint (which I think is quite good by the way). Thanks.
So it seems that bascially I was on the right track - you have to save the modified jpegs out one at a time using an external editor, and load them back in.
I am not familiar at all with saving as a material collection file and/or a MAT Pose file, will have to learn what that's all about.
Thread: Installing new content into separate runtimes for v1,v2...v4 etc? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeah, I am starting to get the idea that there is no one set way to do this.
I think I am just going to install content for the newest models only (M4, V4), and all of it will go in their own separate folders.
Now, in your example above hborre, if you have props from many models all in the same folder, how can you tell which props etc go with which model?
(I sure wish that each Poser object explicitly displayed what model it goes with. Might allow for better sorting and flexibility).

OK let me see if I can piece this all together - I will reinstall everything tomorrow.
Separate runtime folders for:
2, V3, V4, Aiko 4, The Girl 4, She Freak 4, (S4 = Stephanie 4, FF4= (who is FF4?), G4 = The Girl 4?)
What about Stephanie 3.0 Petite? Where does she fit in?
And so for all the new female models, there are actually only 2 separate runtime folders needed?
Also, not sure what the Superhero model referred to above is? Is that a DAZ model?
Thanks in advance

Quote - Whatever makes your searches easiest. You can merge all your Vicky's into one runtime or issue them into their own. There is no ironclad guideline. For instance, I have a runtime for each of my main characters although the base models reside within the main app's runtime. I also have a separate folder for hair, poses, and creatures. There is a specialized folder for Superhero content, as well as a projects runtime for one time use.
Can V1 use props and clothes for V2-V4? Perhaps that's what I should have asked.
Also, arent many poses and hair model specific? If yes, then how does having all the hair in one runtime help you find hair for a specific model?
Lastly, if anyone with a lot of content could possibly post a screenshot (for PC) of their directory structure, it would probably clear up a whole lot of questions.

Whew. ok I think I understand. Dr Geep's Poser 8 are tutorials still in work - the only part of 8's tutorial available right now is what is shown in the link. Doh. I was looking for a whole full blown course like Bob has for the previous versions.
I'll look forward to diving in to what we have so far, and thanks a ton!

Hi Dr Geep,
Thank you but - the link(s) above only seem to yield a jpg- where is the link to the actual Poser 8 Tutorial? I went to your site and looked through the Poser University directories 1-16 and did not see Poser 8. I also tried to register on your site (thinking that was the issue) - 3 different browsers yield this error:
Fatal error: smf_main() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/content/d/r/g/drgeepdotcom/html/simplemachinesforum/Sources/Register.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/content/d/r/g/drgeepdotcom/html/simplemachinesforum/index.php on line 343

WOW. I just took a look at Dr Geeps site. OMG that man has more energy than I think I would have in 10 lifetimes. Just looking at the detail in all those tutorials makes me wonder how much coffee this guy must consume....lol.
Anyway thank you. I noticed that the Geep's tutorials seems to stop at Poser 6. No doubt there is a wealth of relevant info in the older ones though.
I will be checking the tuts on this site of course.
For organizing material - I have one external runtime folder that I point downloads at which have exe's that create runtimes... That seems to work really well with the Poser's Library. What I don't yet have a handle on is manually placing downloaded files that don't build runtimes...oh well. With time...
