There's a texture in VUE 4's 'landscapes' pre-set materials called "Snowy purple stripes", which is a mixed material made of a snow texture and striped rock. You can edit this texture and substitute wood, tree bark, rock , or your roof textures, for the purple stripes. Once you apply this new material to your object, you can tweak the mix to your liking. I did this in my gallery image "A Cold Drink" for the trees, rocks, and terrain, and it worked wonderfully. Examining how Vue's pre-set materials are put together is a great way to learn all kinds of techniques! --DennisThread: Ok, what video cards do you guys have? | Forum: Vue
I'm using NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400. I use OpenGL with Vue 4 and have experienced the problems with sloooooowwwww redraws too. What I did was go to the File>Options menu (see screenshot) and pull back the instant draw quality a bit. I can still see solid, shaded objects, but more complex objects like the seagulls indicated, are wireframe. The refresh rate is usually about a second.
Hope this helps!

I'm so very sorry to hear this. Guitta's artwork and tutorials were truly an inspiration to me as a new Vue user. Her advice and presence at Renderosity will surely be missed here. --Dennis

Hi deedub, To 'paint' a brushed metal texture, you can try this: In Photoshop, open a new document and add noise with the 'noise' filter. Then add a bunch of horizontal motion blur with the 'motion blur' filter. Make the map seamless using the offset/clone stamp method described above, add it to your bump channel and tweak settings as necessary. Hope you find this useful. Dennis

Well, there is the new *Carrara Studio 3 Handbook* by Mike de la Flor. I have not picked it up yet, but I understand it is very good! Check it out!Thread: 112hr render Stopped?! | Forum: Vue
The 'Resume Render' command in under the 'Picture' drop-down menu. There is also a new thread about this on the forum (titled 'restarting render').

FYI: If you have a render that was interrupted for some reason (like the ESC key was hit by accident), as long as NOTHING has changed in the scene and Vue has remained open, you should be able to resume your render by using the "resume render" command.

Possibly your bulb light is set to not cast shadows. Make sure the bulb is set up to cast shadows and see if that gets rid of the light inside the pipe.

Well, I'm no guru, but I'd also suggest Dave's idea above. Try to make the string in the spline modeler and animate the location of a bezier control point along the 'string' so that the bend moves from one end to the other. Then have the spline object move in the assembly room so that the bend's location stays in contact with the edge of the hole. This is just off the top of my head, so I haven't tried it.
