It actually works in all the modeller because it simply floats above the Carrara interface. This means it doesn't zoom and pan with a modeller view, but it's still extrememly useful (IMHO) Brian

Heh, the prize is still under development. You never know with these things. IT will be good when its done. The winner will get to be a beta tester for all of my products now, if they chosse, including PP2. Brina Retford Lost Horizon Software
Thread: How can I make a laser? | Forum: Carrara
The laser will never actually bounce off a mirror in the carrara ray tracer. A ray tracer has to support caustics and backwards ray tracing in order to make that work. I know the effect seems trivial, but it is actually very costly to implement. So you'll probably have to fake it. A good way to do so would be to simply place another light at the reflection point and do it manually. Brian Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com
Thread: looking for clarification | Forum: Carrara
He means that radiosity is an old, and outmoded technology. It has been around almost as long as raytracing. Also, radiosity only models diffuse light interactions, not specular ones, which is why you need combination raytracers and radiosity renderers. Also, as I understand radiosity, it involves subdividing 3d forms adaptively, and works much better for true 3d objects (CSG) than polygons. There are new, more interesting technologies for modelling diffuse light reactions. Photon tracing is one of these. I would love to see a really advanced renderer in Carrara 2, but I doubt it will get there. Maybe v3. Brian Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

Vern's comment is exactly what I thought. The decayed planks and the brand new pylons don't look quite right together. Import that cylinder into the VM and mess it up. Also, if you have Noise Deform (comes with the Carrara Power Pack, which is available at my site). Apply that to each one and rotate them for some variation between pylons. http://www.losthorizonsoftware.com/galleries/One/one.htm check this picture out to see what I mean. Brian P. Very good! Much improved over the first iteration. Can't wait to see the rest. Brian P. Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

Looking good again Mclarsen, but I think the ambient light is turned up too high, the shadows look a little washed out. And that Kapow could probably use some comic style starburst type ballon behind it, I'm not sure what the technical term for it is, either that or an exclamation point - it seems a little flat. I'm really enjoying these, keep them coming! Brian P. Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

Looking good! The mustache is great! My only suggestion is that you turn on interpolation in the texture map dialog for your ground texture, you can clearly see pixelation towards the bottom of the scene. Brian P. Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com
Thread: LIGHT PACK FOR CARRARA? | Forum: Carrara
They are integrated with Carrara as they were in RDS 5. Simply place a light in your scene, then goto the 'effects' tab in the properties tray. Brian P. Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

I'm not sure about the NDA still being in effect, but I can tell you some things. First of all, I'm not sure what you mean by dtk, I've never heard that acronym before. I'll assume you mean SDK. You used to have to email MetaC and sign papers to get the SDK, as of right now, you cannot obtain it. Hopefully you will be able to get it from adobe within the next month. The SDK will only work with C++. It does use COM, so the possibility of using other languages exists, but I doubt it will ever happen. Most pro software in existence for Win95/NT (and most other platforms as well) is coded in C/C++. Brian P. Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

I had to sign an NDA, but I can still share just about anything you wanted to know. Just ask! Brian Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

Chip, you can use DCG's!!!! Eric made them originally for RDS, and you can still d'l them! Just goto www.digitalcarversguild.com - they should work fine with RD3D. Brian Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

I think the bones are a little too 'new' looking - add some noise in the bump channel, and maybe some Perlin Noise (from freeware pack 1 or the Carrara Power Pack) with two colors, the bone white and something darker. Alternatively, you could use tubulence in shader pack 1 from DCG. Also, I would suggest toning down the light level a little, is the ambient set to zero? I can agree with your anger, but Carrara was beta tested for well over 3 months. I was a tester :) Brian P. Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

Sweet! Trees look great, and I love the frosted glass look! One thing I noticed - the tree seems a little too shiny? Maybe decrease the highlight, or add some bump. Brian Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com
