Subject: looking for clarification

I skimmed over the transcript of the chat with Antoine. I noticed one comment he made in response to some renderer questions: "radiosity is a has-been technology." Can anybody clarify what he means by this?

He means that radiosity is an old, and outmoded technology. It has been around almost as long as raytracing. Also, radiosity only models diffuse light interactions, not specular ones, which is why you need combination raytracers and radiosity renderers. Also, as I understand radiosity, it involves subdividing 3d forms adaptively, and works much better for true 3d objects (CSG) than polygons. There are new, more interesting technologies for modelling diffuse light reactions. Photon tracing is one of these. I would love to see a really advanced renderer in Carrara 2, but I doubt it will get there. Maybe v3. Brian Retford Carrara Extensions www.losthorizonsoftware.com

What he means is that it's not going to be part of the next release.
