Re openGL: It's an old problem. Run windows update and openGL gets over-written by a naff windoz software emulation. You will need to re-install openGL, not just drivers. Last time I ran update it took my whole system down hard!
Thread: OT- Help me understand something (dual-core processor) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A small point. The really important bit is how fast they process instructions, not how fast the clock runs.
Intel have always used a four-phase clock, divide the clock by four to get instruction speed.
AMD and PowerPC chips have a two-phase clock, divide by two.
That's how Macs always used to out run Wintels.

The best one in those lines that I can think of is 'i' and 'j', they're both the root of minus 1. Depends on whether you're an engineer or mathematician! Took me a while to get used to it.
Thread: Poser 7 renders 4 times faster? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Don't see why they've limited to 4 threads? Some lucky so-and-so out there could have up to 16 processors ( 8 dual core on one mother board!) and that is at the moment. What's it going to be like when they start coming up with higher multiple cores, another upgrade?!
Whilst I'm bitching; why can't we have a face room like trueSpace, where you can use any geometery as a face? It's from the same people!
But truely I do like Poser.

Shadows Kill. I did a test render: 14 P4 figs 43 lights, 12 shadow-casting somewhat 'polished' floor, only slightly reflective, not a mirror. Dual AMD 1.4G 1G RAM Took an hour to process the shadows and only 9 minutes to complete. Ray-tracing, shadows set, all the rest at default RAM usage stayed within the physical limits, so no disc-flogging.
Thread: Animation Render Limbo (P4) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Look in the marketplace (I think, will check on Thurs). It sets up a python script to generate single frame renders for all the cameras and frame ranges that you tell it to do. It can also be set up for a number of different poser files at the same time. It includes an utility to convert the single frame ranges into anims. It is good if you have a lot of small anims to produce as you can run them overnight.

Had this in P4 running under W2K, does not seem to happen with P5.The render would die after 100 to 150 frames and hang for ever with no file closed hence not readable. Cured by buying and using 'batchgen' utility, quite cheap. Sorry no better help.
Thread: Co$t of 3D Software today? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I was lucky, I got hold of the upgrade through Canadian contacts as I really wanted the cloth upgrade. But the rancour is still there on principle

My bitch exactly. Buying P5 upgrade in Canada works out at about 100. Buying in UK (where Curious Labs redirects you), no upgrade available(?) costs 320 + carriage + tax = ~400. Poser might be easy to use but it is no longer cheap enough to justify.
