I have 5 traditional "everyday" cameras (from a 16mm "spy" camera to a large plate 5x7 inch wood Gundlach) and one lonely (but overused) digital. They all have advantages and disadvantages over each other. I find I choose the camera based on what I want to shoot and say that day. Can't beat the 16mm for street photography, and can't beat a 5x7 for traditional B&W landscapes.

I find the road and path to be very distracting. Whack, lines right across the upper part of the image, ouch. More care should be taken with regard to background. If you ask me I would remove the road and path altogether. Get rid of the clutter. She also doesn't look too happy - but not much can be done about that I guess. I'm a B&W guy, so I have no idea if there are color/saturation problems.

I would think your pricing should depend on if the shop has exclusive rights to the image. If they want that, I would charge more, if you can use the images as well, then charge less. Non excluse rights, 10 images, I would charge based on the amount of time it took me to shoot them. If I took all 10 the same day (probably not possible) I would charge say $200 - that's maybe $20 an image. If I spent a week crawling around the city shooting 4 to 5 rolls to get 10 images, I would charge $400-$600. Exclusive rights would at least double the price, maybe triple. I personally wouldn't worry about contacting a private property owner after-the-fact. When I get caught, I offer an image as compensation. A caveate here - I don't make a living out of photography - but when someone wants my work, they pay what I consider a fair price. What is it worth to you to shoot what they want - that is the final price. Hope this helps -

Wish I could help you with the texture idea - unfortunately I don't know anything about photoshop. However - what you have done with this image is amazing. It really has great character. Well done indeed. I wish I could do color.

Most of the transfers I've seen have been pulled onto paper with a "tooth", like water color paper. Experiment with a texture applied to image. ... and if you figure out a way to put a few wrinkle folds in the image I would be most impressed :o) Beautiful image as it is.

I would suggest you carefully evauate the type of work you plan to do and base your camera purchase on that criteria. I know that sounds a bit like a cop out, but some cameras are better at some things than others. When I go serious, I can shoot 100 images a day for several days before coming back home. I bought accordingly. I also wanted full control etc. Perhaps infrared is important to you. Anyhow, research and buy what best fits your shooting style and what you want to say. Good luck.

Very nice composition and post work. I use an outline feature in PhotoPaint with layers and transparency to get a similar graphic effect in my B&W work. Nice job.

I'm getting to this discussion a bit late, but I am responsible for the original post on C&D, so of course I'm a proponent of such a forum. My original intent was to talk to others that might be interested in discussing impressionistic styles in digital art. Any place I can chat about that will be fine for me. I'm not interested in render wars, my app is better than your app, nor application specific information although applications that can help with an effect would be useful. doug
