I know MartinC is right... this is what I do after using BBEdit. BBEdit saves as TEXT file types. This is ok for the .obj format but not cr2 files and other Poser specific file types. When editing a .obj file in BBEdit just hit save when finished. This will save as text type file which is ok for .obj format. When editing a cr2 in BBEdit hit save then open it up in ResEdit and convert the type to cr2T and the creator to PZ3A. That will do it. You can also use BBEdit to strip out the .mtl line that appears when you export Poser .obj files. Apps such as RDS will not open files with these lines in. As always work with duplicates in ResEdit. When you get used to this proces it is very simple. Also just bear in mind using BBEdit and Applescript on a Mac makes Poser scriptable.... Take care flamethedog
Thread: What text program can open a CR2 on a Mac? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi The reason the cr2 does not work after editing in BBEdit is because Poser does not recognise the BBEdit file as a cr2. You need to change the resource file/creator types aswell to PZ3A and cr2T respectively using an applescript (as found here) just drag and drop after editing in BBEdit. Or by using ResEdit to change the resource. Or by creating an applescript that opens BBEdit, tells it to edit various lines and then commands finder to adjust the resource afterwards. Poser will recognise an obj file edited in BBEdit. Also view as any file in BBEdit as stated by Jim. Always make a copy first. earnest
Thread: How do you Render to DV specs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Double click on the window dimensions (350 x 350) (top right of document window). This brings up Set Window Size dialogue box. Key in Width 720 Height 480. Check Constrain aspect ratio. (This will allow you to resize the window whilst keeping the correct DV proportions). Now when you Render to new window and key in Width 720 pixels Height will be automatically set to 480 pixels. Good luck

This is probably more what you want. If only I could read!! For quality wireframe. Make sure document is displayed in hidden line mode, sometimes good idea to make eyes invisible. When happy: 1. Animation set up: Increase width and height fields to suit, keeping the same proportions as document window. 2. Make movie: Sequence type = Image Files Resolution = Full Quality = Current Display Settings (set to this to get the wireframe) Check Antialias box. Ignore frame rate but set all boxes in Time Span to zero to render just first single frame/image, not a whole sequence. Hit OK and save as. Poser does not allow standard renders larger than 4020 pixels, so to get bigger images increase resolution. Good luck

You could try: 1. Render/Render Options. 2. Check New Window (allows larger renders). 3. Adjust resolution first, approx guide: 300 pixels/inch (dpi) Art Magazine (Quality paper 150 screen). 266 pixels/inch (dpi) Standard Magazine (133 screen). 200 pixels/inch (dpi) Newspapers (Newsprint 70-100 screen). 72 pixels/inch (dpi) Screen/Web pages (No screen). 4. Then select width in cm or pixels. (Try to get used to cm for printing to paper media). 5. Then with other settings set such as anti-alias render the image (This will generate RGB file). 6. Do not forget to convert from RGB to CMYK in image editing software for magazines/newspapers and remove channels/masks/alpha channels/selections (different names for same thing). RGB will print greyscale. Channels will prevent printing at all in some publishing software such as QuarkXpress 3/3.3 etc. Lower the black channel (key) high/midtone levels when converting from RGB to CMYK as RGB has much broader/ vibrant colour range than CMYK. Hence conversion makes image look muddy and less colourful. You could also render as a single frame animation for even better quality/sharper results. You could even export from another 3D app as an illustrator file for even greater line definition and flexibility. Good luck.
Thread: Wrong Number of Vertices Severe Headache | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK so you are OK up to here: >magsnarl1 has 7929 vertices, and when i grab the head, hit >add morph target, and import it back in, it takes fine. What I suggest is once loaded set the morph target dial to 1. Then export the head only from Poser. You could use the export as morph option. Then import this to RDS and fine tune and export as .obj from RDS and load this as a morph target, that should work.
Thread: Wrong Number of Vertices Severe Headache | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As a guess. >snarl1 has 7929 vertices. when i import THAT as a morph >target, i get 'wrong # of vertices.' Although the vertice count is correct between export to/from Poser/RDS extra groups may have been created, splitting up the original group into smaller groups. A lot of 3D apps (incl RDS) do not read groups/usemtl statements (in .obj format) that share edges thus create new groups, but this adds extra vertices (duplicating the shared edges). If you are welding identical vertices on import to Poser this will cover this up but the extra g statements will remain. There is much more to this but not sure of your exact procedure.... Naming as polygons on props tends to cause this later on down the line. Groups within groups. >if i weld the stuff in ray dream (the new group does appear >as another polymesh), i get 6779 vertices, and that is the wrong number, too. The weld feature in RDS is not as precise as the weld identical vertice on Poser import command. RDS will weld more than just the identical vertices together even in its minimum range as Poser figures are so small in scale. Especially around detailed areas such as eyelids and lips, thus generating fewer vertices. Simply weld on import to Poser.

Perhaps they could adopt the approach of Cubase. They supply a floppy with the CD that has to be inserted after software installation. This places a key on the hard drive so that the software in question will only run on that drive and you no longer have to keep installing the floppy. The problem is if your hard drive is erased you lose the key. But Cubase have thought of this allowing the floppy to install the key twice. Then you can send away for a new floppy returning the old floppy to get back the two keys. Allowing you to continue work. You can also uninstall the key back to the floppy and take the software to another machine (a new MC). Without the key on the original MC the software will not work. So it only works on one MC at a time. Hope this makes sense. The issue here is that if the CD becomes corrupt/scratched/damaged you have to stop work and wait for a replacement and could lose the client as a result. This is what concerns me about animation master also. The ability to continue to work. I have spent a fortune on software and am all for legal software. It is tax deductable and VAT deductable. I hope that Software companies come up with a solution to enable users to carry on working and prevent piracy.

Another point is if you keep this policy, lets say you do a Mimic version for Animation Master. This also requires a CD to be in the drive. What would happen then? Would we require glue to stick the CDs together or learn new juggling skills? On top of this most of our clients are in the publishing arena and are all Mac based, having invested hundreds of thousands in Mac hardware and software. These are looking to shift over to realtime publishing on the Web and in Digital TV (looking at our present projects). Mimic could well help these, but alas will only be available to them eventually, just when is eventually? Is that one week, one month, one year, one decade, one century?

Still a ridiculous policy. Totally unprofessional. What happens if you are a professional on a deadline? Our deadlines are on a day to day basis. You will have to wait for postage to and from lipsinc, and clearance, and so miss the deadline and lose the client. You will also have to pay postage and packing. At least allow one backup copy so you can continue to work whilst replacing CD. Till then no thankyou.
