Wonderful stuff foleypro. Lovecraft is legend and I'm sure you know influenced all major writers of horror today. I have a fair collection of his materials and have loved his work for years - the tendrils of his writing always seem to creep into my work. It's a shame that much of his work has been over-analysed, but you can see clear parallels between his approach and that of say, Stephen King. For example, Lovecraft created a fictional town of Arkham and King also created his Castlerock which reverberates throughout his work. Reanimator also made some good cult watching. I congratulate you again and am very envious. When I think of Lovecraft, I think of 'unspeakable terror'. Thus, much of the atmosphere is created by what is not seen, or not seen so clearly. Good luck and keep us informed. Eco (a newcomer to the forum)

Yes, I agree that we should take advantage of the wealth of creativity bubbling throughout the other forums. Have the modellers create characters that then require a name, a character profile, or even a situation written for them. If these became challenges, then the designer could act as judge and decide which piece of work most fits what he/she was intending to create. And yes, it can work both ways. We, gifted with our weapons of words, can then provide brief challenges that require those gifted with tools of images to create appropriate imagery (and us to judge). In essence, the aim is also to inspire collaboration. There are many graphic artists out there who are looking for writers and vice versa. Regards to all. Eco

Only short, but a scene that holds special significance. I walked to the river bank, Drawn to the darkness by the weight of my heart The crickets sang, the waters lulled Somewhere a gull let me know I was not alone But it was wrong, I was alone Dreams came and dreams passed They swept over my head and through my mind And I succumbed to the icy tendrils of deliverance.

Yes it has radiosity, in Version 7 and up, this is one of its greatest and most impressive points. A great app. One of the best!

You're welcome. I know your animal isn't quite a shark, but has some similarity in bodyform. Sharks have several rows of teeth waiting to sprout and replace those that they lose (if you're gonna run around eating things, you can't afford to be missing teeth. It would be great to see some indication of reserve teeth lying to the inside of the main teeth. If this isn't clear, I should be able to dig up a ref picture for you. Also...I love the tentacles....break up the symmetry and maybe have one tentacle twisted forward in a more menacing fashion..as if sensing potential prey. Keep up the brilliant work :)

Excellent Work!! Lightwave gives nice results. As I've said before, I'm new to modelling, but have studied different predators (as a biologist) for years. I'm only offering constructive criticism and love your work!! As many artists have said in the past, try and build up an actual profile for your creature. It's great to do awesome work, but awesome to design something that is believable. What does your creature eat? Realistically, no predator would have its eye located in such a place...put it on top (the spherical design would give a wide field of vision). Personally, 2 menacing eyes would be more effective. Also, the mouth doesn't appear very functional. What happens to its teeth when its jaw closes (are the upper teeth still visible, as T.rex and crocodiles or disappear like the 4th tooth in alligators?). All predator's teeth usually point backward INTO the jaw, to preven prey escaping. The teeth I feel need to not taper so much...they look too fragile. Will your fellow have nostrils? Again, if you come up with a hypothetical profile for your creature it will help you come up with some effective improvements to your wonderful design.

Hey guys, just in case you're interested. I was browsing the latest "3DWorld" magazine (well, Nov issue here in Australia). There is an article touching on dragon wings, wrt membrane structure and optimal design for animating. Hope this is useful. Eco

To be honest, I like the first one. I mean, it depends on what you want to portray. Personally, I would hate to meet the first vamp dude in an alley. The second one, however, I feel I could probably reason with, if you know what I mean. He has an air of 'humanity' about him. For me (I've been a vamp fan for 3 decades!) a vampire doesn't need to be handsome (unless we're popularising. eg Dracula). Even if 'it' were handsome, there has to be an underlying 'animal'. Your first image, gives me the impression of something wild about to tear my throat out...that's cool. Even though I like the 'chin horns' of #2, these would likely get in the way of any serious killing! Regardless, your ideas are great!

Thread: Re: DRAGON again | Forum: 3D Modeling
You're all welcome. I'm new to 3D modelling (actually, I'm a herpetologist, conservationist etc etc). I've taught anatomy/biology for years and love functional morphology (the way animals are designed etc). If I can help out with ref material/advice feel free to e-mail me ecoarena@iprimus.com.au It's the little things that make a difference and I am frequently disappointed by movies where the idea of telling a good story is ruined simply because of lack of research. Also, I'm sure you guys will have lots of great advice for me when I need it!!! Happy Modelling Happy
