Thanks, Aardvark and Touchwood, that makes it a lot more clear. I'm still struggling a little to get the hang of how these different pieces fit together!

Thanks very much! The Emulate Numpad option seems to be the best solution for me! I guess if I get into a workflow where I'm constantly shifting layers, I can turn the option off until I'm finished.

I don't remember if it was part 3, but one of the downloads, I had to rename to a shorter name before it would unzip. Anton warned about that in the download documentation, it's a problem with the Macintosh stuffit program.

I've downloaded parts 1 thru 3 and done some testing with the figure. This is really superior 3D modeling! Thanks very much to Anton!
The differences in this figure are a lot to absorb. One thing in particular I was trying to figure out-- it appears that expression morphs always affect both sides of the face at the same time. Is there a way to apply expressions to one side of the face? For instance, if I want a character to raise one eyebrow, or wink, or exhibit a crooked smile?
Thread: Is there a size limit on Poser 6 renders? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Good suggestions all. Energy saving was one of my big disappointments with my G5 machine; no matter what I did, it wouldn't work properly; I called Apple's tech support and everything. So I turned it off and just have the screen saver running when it's inactive for 15 minutes. Which means I have to shut down when I'm not using the machine, no biggie. The topleft, topright etc. solution is possible, but it would be pretty complicated to figure out the exact camera settings you need to change to get that In any case I think the image is going to render slightly different when the camera is moved. Another way of doing it without moving the camera is to do a partial render; that's designed for sample rendering, but it might work to select an entire quarter of the image. I'm gonna have to try that and see what happens!

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have SR1. I tried doing the render without Raytracing, with texture filtering turned off, and with a bucket size of 8. It didn't crash, at least not obviously. It ran for two hours, and then I think it froze up (I noticed that my mouse pointer stopped doing the spiral thingy when in the Poser app, which makes me think it froze.) So I force-quit from it. I'm gonna have to make do with my 150bpi renders, alas. Blowed up to 300 bpi, I don't think most people will spot the difference. But that's not the way I like to work.

Thanks! I'm really surprised that Photoshop doesn't offer more choices for this. After all, it's something you really need for printing pictures in a number of formats

Ok, I'm intrigued; where do you get this figure? I can't find it under Hmann in the Renderosity marketplace.

Lightwave question-- I'm a newbee Lightwave user. Can you import a Poser figure as an object, then add a skeleton to the character and make it in effect a Poser figure that can be posed in Lightwave? And related question, can you give her weight maps? And that prompts the question, if you can, why doesn't anybody offer a figure for sale that has this done already?

Tyger has a good point. In practice, continuity of figures is extremely useful. I have several new figures now with the new Poser 6 and the Miki model. But they're hard to use, because I don't have the variety of skin tones and clothing that my V3 figure has. I also think that the available morphs provide quite a variety of possibilities with the figure faces-- you just have to work with them a bit, and sometimes in counter-intuitive ways. For instance, if you use a negative value on a high-cheekbones morph, you can take a supermodel type and make her seem more ordinary-looking. The Poser 6 models seem to have made a step forward in facial variety; I haven't experimented with them long, but I've come up with some nice stuff. I especially like the fact that you can dial up the nose to be quite large, and you can use the face room to change the shape of the entire head.

I have a Mac G5 with Tiger. I've seen some odd things, like Poser just quitting on me suddenly, but it hasn't happened all that often, and Poser 5 on OS X Panther also crashed sometimes. For the most part P6 seems to run better, but that is probably because the G5 is a much better machine than the G4.
The big problem I have with Poser 6 is that apparently Dynamic Clothes don't work. I say "apparently" because they're complicated and buggy enough in the first place, so I don't know that this is just a Mac problem. But after several hours of trying I just gave up on that major feature.
