And I forgot about my latest addition: Beef Taco
So simplke, but so effective.
I'm going back to lurking - this editor requires that I be able to yupe! To me my speelchecker is an input device!!!
I guess a Linux VM under Windoze would be fine as an interim setup. But rreally need to run Windoze as a VM on Ubuntu. Once setup simply use Linux to copy the entire Windoze VM to another location. Then ANY problem, copy it back. System reset in the time of a Linux copy (which is much faster than Windoze) and no need to even look to see what is infected/contaminated/corrurpyed.

What WandW said, plus BetterPrivacy for flash.
@edgeverse, Poser (6 at least) runs better under Ubuntu than Windoze. Just install under Wine. You may still need to install a couple of .dll's manually - but there's a post from me around here somewhere detailing. Parameter Dials are much more responsive (because Linux handles intertask communication better than Windoze - indeed everything does - and since P5 Poser has separate tasks).
Sheesh, even this "new" editor disables browser's spellchacker. Really 21st Century that!
Thread: New Poser Library System | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Don't forgot Hogsoft's PBooost II. The original replacement Poser Library Replacement. Doesn't use Access. And is a fair bit cheaper, esp. if you have a PBooost 1.4 around to upgrade.
Also allows you to create "virtual" folders in which you can place links to items in any real folder.

The speed difference is apparent if you are short on memory space (calls to IE routines), have a slower machine, and seems to be increased if you had access restrictions in place (eg. ZoneAlarm limiting access to 'Net for Poser) as Poser code likes to retry things that don't work.
But the original reason for removing it was that P5 when released was about as stable as a drunk walking the plank off a 19th century sailing galley on the high seas in a gale storm. And with the Copy Protection code originally present, any sign of Poser throwing a wobbly could cause Interlok to crash your OS in addition to Poser, hiding all traces of the crash cause in the process. So adding underlying IE code developed by M$ to the mix was not exactly helping! There was a real need back then. But it can't hurt, even now, as less code loaded should mean reduced risk.

Thread: Wasn't there a Library button UI hack? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There was for Poser 5 (it was easier to find and read on PoserPros until recently, but it is here if you search far enough back - posted under my nick). But unfortunately it won't work in P6. As eF actually retrograded that piece of code (from dynamic to hard coded) you can only guess at the reason.
Probably to shave a few minutes off the time to code the multi-column library option introduced around that time.
BTW, you can still use it to EXPAND the size of the library entries - but you probably didn't want to do that. ;-)
(OT: Wonderful! Firefox on Linux will actually let you use its spell checker on this fckeditor :-) )
PS: The ParamDials hack to reduce the height of the entry for each dial still works - on P6 at least, don't have P7 to test but I suspect it still will. It removes the image of the dial, and lets to stroke across (or up/down) the dial name instead.
Thread: Can READSCRIPT used in a CR2 file, import PZ2 file character? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Look at the old posts (in Poser tech forum) concerning readscript for V3. The best way to put out pz2's is without :1, as this allows multiple characters to be staged without crossover effects. But the :1 has to be removed from everything. True without :1 then you do need to select the character first (how else is Poser to know which character? - well should be obvious if only 1 but we're talking Poser here ;-)) but as pointed out this is unlikely to be the problem here. I suspect the problem is that Daz is still putting :1 into their characters, morphs, etc., so you need it in the pz2 file. If all the numbers are missing, then Poser will use the default number assigned when the character is loaded, 1st = 1, 2nd = 2, etc., and the pz2 file can be blank and it will apply to last character selected - the way Poser worked back when readscript was invented - Poser 3 or 4 probably.

Lunarpages, no question. See my site for info ad and links. Have put half-dozen sites up over 5 years, and not had any problems whatsoever. 24x7 email support. Forum support, plus 6 day phone support. Good rates, reliable service: average of 5 sites for 5 years with no problems takes some beating!!! And they are nice peeps to deal with.If you want a reliable - secure - low maintenance CMS, suggest Dragonfly CMS. PM me here or at my site for more info.
Thread: So you want to go Linux but still run Poser? | Forum: Poser Technical
@EnglishBob - You're welcome, glad it's of use. Agreed Win2K is the pinnacle of Windoze development (that doesn't say much does it? ;-) The last OS in which developers had a larger say in its design than marketing. If only they'd released the multi-processor support in W2K, it was developed on it I'm sure, but said marketeers boycotted its release. Would love to know if there was ever a pre-release ...
Thread: Anything after P4 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The 2nd post in this thread covered the UI issues succinctly - not that the original Kai Poser 4 UI was ever rational ;-)
Indeed Poser 4 & Poser 4 ProPack were the last versions designed as a whole.
But the real problem with post_P4/PPP version is that not only is the UI grafted on, the new features are literally grafted on too. Look at Poser running on Linux, where Curious Labs' programmer couldn't mask the Taskbar display, and you'll see that the new Document (posing) window, the Dial Palette and the new Library are EACH separate tasks! This was obviously a problem at P5 release, with respect to dial turning response, and it has only become less of a problem since because PC's have got fast enough to mask that ludicrously poor design choice. And a candidate reason why those of us still running same PC's as when we used P4/PPP still prefer posing in P4/PPP.
[ An analogy would be today's cruise ships and oil tankers doing away with their direct control of the turbines from the bridge, and going back to the old bell system where the engines are adjusted remotely in the engine room - do-able on the open seas perhaps, but try finessing a docking! ]
And beyond the above, whatever programmer designed/implemented the new-in-P5 circular menu on the Library window deserves to be unemployed, at least as a programmer :-O
Thread: Looks like Poser 4 support is being abandoned | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you have used PBooost then you should really try it's latest incarnation PBooost Virtuoso - it's library interface is a big improvement over P6's and yet it should still work with P4.
Using tromnek's PRPC you can "1-click" load into Poser, and the library structure is so flexible you can create folders containing, say, everything for 1 figure - figure, pose, face, clothes, etc., and load it altogether! That's right, anything from any Poser library co-existing in same folder.
And best of all it's still free to PBII owners as Howard's been focussed on other things recently - see his website www.hogsoft.com.
Speed - and dial responsiveness - of P4PP and a good library manager. Use a stand alone renderer, and there isn't much you'd need P6 for (P5 is a joke, and P7 looks to be trying to fill its shoes so there are realluy only those 2 choices).
Thread: Windows Vista, REAL COSTS.. | Forum: Community Center
svdl,
That's 1 theory, and it may be right. The other theory, with about an equal chance, is that M$ deliberately brought this on themselves. They want to provide the way to channel Video content in the same way that Apple channeled music with iTunes. Once you have the lion's share of the market with something DRM'd you effectively have a monopoly. Potentially betting the farm.
Would Bill Gates like a monopoly? After all Windoze isn't one at least in USA! :tongue1:
"DRM is uttter crap. A desperate attempt to hold on to a business model that became outdated when the home video recorder made its way to the general public - some 30 years ago." - No arguing with that, but M$ only have to convince the US Movie Industry, who are probably blind to your perception. ;-)
Thread: Windows Vista, REAL COSTS.. | Forum: Community Center
Quote - If people that make Windows applications stop doing anything that is specific to Vista I want to see what Microsoft will do!
Agreed, but unlikely to happen. M$ can't afford for that to happen. Plus all the vendors who are having to scratch M$ back to enable this (ATI, Nvidia, Dell, HP, etc., etc.) are going to want their share of the re-buy $'s.
M$ has already decided DX10 will be Vista-only. At moment not much difference between DX9 and DX10 for most games, but it's an indicator...
Better to hope that enough people get pissed at M$ that they moved to Linux. But alas, as most peeps don't install new OS's or even upgrades, until Dell, HP, etc., sell Linux-installed to home users this has little chance too. And for reasons stated above, they'll prefer to sell a bigger faster (CPU at least ;-)) systems with Vista!
A complete Linux system, with most common drivers for any PC, Office work-a-like, GIMP, and most every other general app you'd want fits on an 800MB install CD - and execute from it. Vista installs 800MB of code for OS (a misnomer in this case) with drivers for just the current system and 1 browser and 1 emailer! And Office 2007 on Vista will reputedly refuse to install on less than a 1Gb of memory PC!!!
Seriously, the best hope lies with the Chinese manufacturers, that they continue to develop lower cost, simpler, Vista-incompatible boards (for use on our Linux systems), and they succeed with EVD.
But we're stuck 'cos eF shows no sign of moving Poser to Linux... Unless VMfree turns out to run Poser7. Perhaps all the out-dated Windows file dialogs have been removed? And perhaps the OGL preview is compliant enough now?
Thread: Windows Vista, REAL COSTS.. | Forum: Community Center
The BIG concern is the impact on non-Windoze, even non-Vista, systems.
Hopefully the Asian manufactures will continue to produce pre-Vista "legacy" designs for use in non-Vista systems, in order to protect the rest of us from the increased costs and lack of choice and/or updates which may well occur from the complexity and sheer make-work US-based computer manufacturers are in for at least in the near term.
And it certainly does the current issue of proprietary drivers for FOSS system no favours. (But perhaps that was part of the goal?)
Saw an industry report recently that Vista had added $100 to the cost of production of the "average" PC sold in USA - that represents a whopping 25% increase over 2006 costs - for the same user experience. (Remember that Vista Basic which will undoubtedly often be sold on this level system has none of the new UI features: it's XP on DRM.) Clearly some of that was increase OS royalty costs, but this article shows where much of this increase really comes from.
