Conclusion to this tale of woe. Took the HP G70-111EM back to the store , paid another £20 and exchanged for the HP G60-120EM which has a dedicated graphics card, brought it home, loaded Daz Studio and it runs perfectly.

Thanks for taking the time to look, I had been looking online for a possible solution and I had tried to see if there was a newer driver, which there isn't, So I had come to a similar conclusion as yourself and I will be taking the machine back to the store tomorrow to try and exchange it for another model.
Thanks

Have had another look at the Daz forum and it would appear that Daz Studio/Windows Vista still appears to be a bit hit or miss and quite temperamental. The version of Daz Studio loaded was 2.3.3.99 and I have also tried 2.3.3.89, both experiencing the same screen freezing issues, and I have also tried loading it separately outside the Program Files. I have also tried adjusting the screen size and refresh rates, to no avail. Any other insights gratefully received and willing to re-try processes in order to get this working.
Thanks

I'll be heading North this Saturday and staying through to the following Sunday. I'll probably take the A702 (I think???, it's single carriageway, but usually quiet and the route's a bit more scenic) from borders to Edinburgh ring road then onto the motorway to Perth, etc. I hate travelling on the dual carriageway towards Glasgow, not to mention the roadworks, I always end up in the wrong lane and end up heading towards Glasgow city centre whilst gazing across conrete barriers and saying to myself I should have been in that other lane. Anyway, if you see a man struggling to get a shot on a Sony Alpha A200, with a wife and two kids glowering and foot tapping in the background...that'll be me! Enjoy the ball, if I don't bump into you while your up in St Andrews. excuse my ignorance...but what's a "'tog"?
(Wonders how Eddie got on in Strontian?)

I asked that very same question recently...apparently it means "Do It To It". Also the first to reply with an image sets up the next one on the following Monday.

Hi Eddie
Sorry, but had to post this ;) . Just had vision of you, having driven for 7 hours, fighting at pumps for fuel, finally arriving at your log cabin to find this:-

Hi Eddie
Have you heard the latest about the proposed strike?

Don't know how much this may affect your holiday, especially being based at Strontian? Let's hope it doesn't happen.

Hi Eddie
Depends what sort of holiday you're on and how compliant your travelling companion(s) are?
I did the west coast back in the 90's. We also did Fort William to Mallaig, stopping at Loch Morar, stayed overnight at Glenfinnan and got a lovely early morning shot of Loch Shiel with an early morning mist. We went to Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point on the Scottish mainland, views of Atlantic Ocean, there is a lighthouse and beach, but it is a long drive and quite remote. There are'nt many stone circles or standing stones in that part of Scotland they seemed to prefer cairns. There is one called Temple Wood but it was too far off our route to visit. You need to go to Orkney or North East/ East coast for better examples. Travelled further north before heading back home to Dundee. We did a lot of sleeping in the car and woke up in some weird places looking down on some spectacular views enhanced by the low lying mist. We had a few 'Brigadoon' moments. On the whole the west coast involves a lot of travelling on minor roads between places of interest, which if the weather is fine, you don't mind doing. Most people do a 50 mile radius of Fort William and unless you go remote or get to the attractions early or stay late you get those pesky tourists in your shots... and then there's the midgies, horseflies, etc!
Anyway enjoy, hope you find something to shoot. I'll be heading up to Scotland in three weeks. We have booked a cottage in Meigle so I'm just hoping the weather improves and I get a few good shots around Fife, Perthshire, Tayside and the Glens whilst squeezing in family visits.
Regards
Mike
