Hmm.... Interesting theme. I've got a couple ideas I'll have to try out on this one. Can't decide at this stage if I want it serious, or humerous.. I may have to do both! :)

Thread: What does it take to become a 3d artist. | Forum: Community Center
For myself, I never draw - I compose my images first in my head. I then imediatly start putting together my ideas in my 3d program. This gives me much more freedom to explore. I almost never end up with my original idea. I pretty much treat my work the same way a photographer would, not as what a more 'traditional' artist would. I'll build a 'set', pose an arange my subjects, set up my lighting, and 'snap the shot.' That's why I characterize my work as "virtual photography" and not as computer art. :)

I'll add my vote that this should be an option in the user's profile. I really hate any website that opens a new instance of a browser for practically every click. Sorry, but this was a very poor decision to force this onto everyone without getting some input first. I really, really, really do not like this change!

BTW: Stonemason - I just picked up a couple of your scenes from DAZ. I'm really liking them a lot, and have just recently posted an image useing "Urban Sprawl" as a backdrop. I see myself using it and the others a lot more in future works.

For myself, I can't say that I have any particular favorites. I do, however, find myself useing the more relaistic skin textures more ofthen than any of the other gazillion I have. When I say realistic, I don't mean "super model" real, but real people real. I do always find myself going back to MaskEdits Freckle series, and my current favorites are ONYX by ExprssnImg and GAZALI by solarisonline - simply because they aren't "beautiful people" skins. They're ordinary folks! When it comes to hair and clothes, I'm very picky. For clothes, I almost always go Dynamic - which finding quality products is difficult. Hmann is one of the best merchants for these. Otherwise, I'll make my own using 3DS Max and the Cloth plugin. Getting quality hair is also a must. Normally I try to create my own dynamic hair. For prop-based hair, I think the Sassy Hair II is one of the best. There's nothing worse that hair with noticible angles in the bends. I've also used the DAZ gel hair prop quite a bit - no moving parts! :)
Thread: Nudity does not equal art. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Nudity can be artistic if done well. I'm not a prude or a raving conservative. What do I hate seeing is giant breasted figures without even an attempt at artistry. I've got one or two "nudes" in my gallery (only one visible nipple in the whole series), but they are tastefully done (IMHO). Poser has the reputation in the 3D world as a toy for pre-pubesent boys - not a serious graphic artist's tool. Myself, I'm constanly amazed at the quality that this program can achieve, especially in the hands of a talented artist. No, big breasts does not directly equate to art - unless handled in an artistic manner. Yes, you can have big breasts in an image that is artistic. That's where the "art" comes into play. I'm not for banning anything. I just think each of us should consider - before posting an image - if the piece has artistic value. Renderosity is, by it's own definition - and "Art Community"
Thread: Poser 6: Expected release date announced! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
From my perspective, I'm not seeing anything in the press releases that catches my eye as a breakthrough development. It would appear that the only real improvements have been made with the rendering engine. In my case, these improvements are irrelevant, as I do all of my rendering within 3ds MAX. OpenGL will be nice, and we'll have to see what sort of "new and improved" interface they've come up with. My concerns are more with improvments with dynamic hair and cloth (which they have not made any mention of).
