Thanks for all the info. I looked in the mtz.ucl and found an l-system; but all I got when I used it is a black screen. Guess I'll have to play with it some more. William/paragon5
Thread: Chaos Fractal version 3 Solid coloring question | Forum: Fractals
Hi Lynn, Have you tried the newest version of Chaoscope yet? The very latest just came out today. It's so new it's not even on the website yet. There are many different changes on the newer versions. If you don't have them, they are well worth the time to download. ( sometime in the future, Chaoscope may or may not be a free program any longer! )Â

Good luck finding a tut on FFF. I have the program and use it a bit, but the help file is only a couple of non-english characters. So they are no help at all. I e-mailed the creators of the program and didn't receive any response. The older version seemed to work better for me. William

Hi Arend, I have had some problems with FFF also. It doesn't really crash, mine just stops drawing anything. Mine doesn't seem to be doing it more with one set of par files than the others. I chalked it up as one of those annoying little things that just happens every-so-often. Good luck finding an answer, Williamparagon5

First off, make sure that you have the latest version of Chaoscope. Nicolas is working on a brand new version with a lot of changes and enhancements. Chaoscope uses the fractint map files for it's coloring. To really bring the color out, try changing the "speed" color to black. The results are well worth the effort. In the "julia" parameters do not raise the "level" to over 14. Too low a level will result in nothing but blobs. 15 and higher messes up the calculation and one side renders much brighter than the other (which can be useful at times). At 30 (the max) only one side is rendered. Don't forget to use your zoom and rotate. Most of all, just keep playing with it and having fun with this cool little program! William/paragon5

Great idea, Nick! How about getting a list up and letting us vote on them. Maybe pick the top twelve and use one for each month. William

Mura-Neology has a filter called MMCopies that does the effect you are possibly looking for. It's also free! Here is the address: http://www.geocities.com/murakuma/ It's a bit memory intensive, but it should work fine!

Here is a great link to lots of free and commercial fractal programs: http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/Fractal_Software.html Hope this helps, William/paragon5

I Don't use a Mac, but I ran across a whole page of Mac fractal software. Here is the adress: http://fraktali.849pm.com/fracpromac.html I'm thinking about running a Mac emulator just so I can try someof these programs. That'll be different, Mac, Windows and Linux on one machine! Hope this helps! William

Great question, I use several different programs. My favorites are: Vchira, Apophysis, Dust Fractals, Xaos, Flight From Fractal and so many more. I have about 80 on my harddrive and lots of oddball fractal programs on disks. My personal favorite is Vchira, I just wish it had the graphics capability of UF. William

Very nice image! Have you tried Knots3D or Pretzangles? They do some of the same type renders. I'm trying a new "program" called Bioform that renders 3Dfractal lifeforms. So far it's pretty cool and it renders in Pov-Ray. The developer says it was just something he was playing with, but it makes some very wild designs! If you are interested, check out freshmeat.com. Hi Zhann, you can map fractals onto 3D objects. I mostly use TrueSpace for my 3D spheres, instead of simply wrapping the fractal onto a sphere, you can get a spherical mapping corrector(I use one in PSP from Richard Roseman), that way it maps better. If you want to use transparency you have to have a UV Map, and that's where I'm currently trying to learn. If you are using Bryce, ask the people in the Bryce forum, they'll probably be more than happy to help. Hope this helps in some small way, William!

Hi Mike, "tubes" are merely pictures that have transparent backgrounds. In PSP you can make your tubes from your own pics. They are really a conveinence, you don't have to pull that certain image back up, remove the background and whatever else you want to do to it. I even have some of my fractals in tubes, especially the flames. Makes it a lot easier for those compositions! Hope this helps, William
