Sealtm2...I'm sorry to hear about this. It sounds like the end of the net for me. Unfortunately, the elected officials have a club that kicks the people who put them there to the curb while they join the club and enrich themselves on donations from the corps and big business. Anymore, it seems our freedom and the country is up for sale to the highest bidder...and it's happening because too many are fat and happy and not paying attention. As one song goes..."while the rest of the nation is still sleeping....they'll be kissing America goodbye"
While Net Neutrality is looming on the horizon, the "north american union" (do a search) will eventually neuter "we the people". Once its in place, then they'll say "Oh having three governments openly working with each other is a bit much...we need an overarching agency to co-ordinate things...like a Parliment or some such thing." Then they'll set up something that will over ride our Constitution...and it's bye bye freedom. But the masses sleep on!

Thread: Is there a G5 in your future? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello Nevermore
I didn't think you were starting a MAC vs PC thread. I just wanted to respond to some of the previous messages and after coming from other boards on the subject where things get turned into the PC wars I wanted to be clear as to what I was getting at in the first place. I agree with your desire for greater compatibility between the two technologies. The closest thing we get is the few companies who give you both versions when you buy one app like Metacreations used to do. Emulation software is useful to a degree, but what you suggest would indeed be beneficial to everyone.
Cheers

"AMD is releasing a 64 bit motherboard in a month for the PC. Does anyone know if this will make a great difference to Poser or only for programs that are specifically written to utilize the 64 bit archticture. I know nothing about what any of this computerleze language means, so I don't even know if this is a real question.""I'm interested in Intel's reaction tbh, playing it down and not making public any 64 bit plans. This is either plain dumb or a cunning ploy to lull us into a false sense ofomplacency. I think though they could end up loosing valauble ground in the overall Processor war"
First off, from what I read the G5 will speed up current applications, which is good, of course. For Poser to take advantage of the 64 bit architecture CL would have to optimize the software for that. When the G5 was announced there was a streaming video of Jobs presenting the hoopla. I'm not a real techie but if I understand right he presented all the attendees with the software to optimize their programs and it sounds like a easy thing for someone with that knowledge. I've read elsewhere that some companies have used those tools and optimized their program for the G5 in less than an hour. Again, this is a little over my head to explain but this is what I am reading. Once optimized a program gets the benefit of using the 64 bit architecture and a full 8 gig of ram. Wheeww! 32 bit apps will still run on the G5 but without the optimization they can only access 4G of ram. Still, that's a lot of horsie power.
My orginal message was not to pit MACs against PCs. There is plenty of "my dog is bigger than yours" threads to be found. I just thought the PC mag article was a nice update to any who may have been wondering about all the debunking and criticism of the test scores that Apple kept espousing.
Personally, I would like to see both platforms keeping up with each other for the sake of their respective users. Plus the competition keeps them giving us more. After a while of collecting software and really learning whatever computer you use, unless you have money to burn, you would like to have the latest on your platform.
The most recent article I found on PCs and 64 bit was here...

I hope that the success of Apple's efforts causes Intel to rethink it's position and give the PC owners 64 bit too so that everyone can move forward.

Congratulations. Sorry to hear about the car trouble. I thought only I did things like that. But, when such things happen I defer to my ol' saying: What I know can fill a book. What I don't know can fill a library. LOL. Take care and keep hitting those books!
Thread: Platinum Club at Daz membership change ATTN ANYONE FROM DAZ | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I like the Platinum Club as there are some great products to be had at low prices. However, I have more than one credit card and take advantage of flipping balances for lower rates. If I have transfered a balance to the card DAZ will charge to then I'm stuck with paying the higher percentage rate on the additional charges DAZ will make until I clear that card's balance. This interferes with how I manage my bills to my best advantage. I would prefer to pay my fee as an annual amount from a card of my choice. The card I may use when it's time to renew may not be the one I might use the month before, because as I stated I move my bills around for the best advantage. DAZ should give us options that satisfies everyone.
Thread: Installing Mimic 2 Pro on Mac? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you both for taking the time to help me out. If anyone wants the "DITZ" award I've awarded myself do what I did, then follow HAWK99's advice and make sure you have Mimic one installed on your computer. LOL. I had bought a new EMAC and moved most of my apps to my new computer, but neglected to add Mimic 1. Once I did that and then tried the install of Mimic 2 Pro Upgrade everything went smooth as butter! Again thanks for your help. I hope anyone who has gotten a new MAC will now remember to install both Poser and Mimic 1 to make the upgrade work. Cheers!
Thread: PC/Mac? Quick question... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I bought a MAC IICI at the Goodwill a couple years ago. Got on the internet, ran Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, and a host of other goodies. A friend of mine who is a college grad as a computer major said that that was a testimony to the reputation of MACs. He knew the IICI was a 1989 model and was amazed at what I was doing with it. Today both PC and MAC have a whole lot more to offer. But I keep reading that MACs stability and non-crashing reputation makes up for time lost on the faster PC side. In all, use what you got and have fun.

Pizazz, you state that it's pulling from the bump map. I don't know what you mean by that and, given you are correct, how does one "take it out."

You make an excellent point. Trying to keep up with the ins and outs of these products can be quite taxing. Myself, I find I spend more time going through the forums, cutting and pasting information that I realize I need to know because there is no way I can remember all this stuff and no where else to go where it's all laid out. Yes there are tutorial sites here and there, but if not for scouring the forums and reading of someone's problem and, subsequently, someone's reply which often tells you where you might find an answer, I'd be lost. But again that means scouring the forums, coming back to messages that weren't originally resolved but may be at a later posting. Sometimes a visit here leaves me exhausted and when I'm done I'm too tired, mentally to even apply the information from a given days postings. My thanks to anyone out there who has a tutorial site or knows the answer to a question. But it's true there's more to getting the full potential out of these products than in the read-mes and a section devoted to tutorials etc. by the maker of the products, who by the way, know a whole lot more about what can be done with them would be a tremendous help. Additionally, it would free up time to actually use these products rather than scouring the web looking for instructions how to. I hope DAZ gives serious consideration to your ideas.
Thanks again

Thread: An Idea I has been chewing. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had a teacher when in art school who said he billed in increments. He'd charge so much for preliminary work/roughs, then based on the amount of work he broke the work down in stages and required payment for each stage before moving on to the next. If the client liked the work they paid. If they chose to back out he was paid to the point they backed out. All this was agreed upon in a written contract he'd present at the beginning of the job. He said that if the company was sincere they had a happy marriage. The shysters weeded themselves out when they complained that the arrangement wasn't fair and wanted to pay when the job was completely delivered. He found that this worked for him.
