Thread: Honest question on Poser 12 | Forum: Poser 12
In response to the OP's original question, and also to some of the replies, I use Poser to pose figures, then export them to Blender for the render. A scene that took over 8 hours to render in Poser 11 takes me 45 minutes in Blender (Superfly vs Cycles), so the time spent collecting the bits was more than made up by the improved render times. I can create whole scenes in Blender (for free) and use the instancing capabilities to make large and complex scenes that will crash Poser or DS.
I am very impressed with what Bondware have done for this release, far exceeding my expectations, but like the OP, unless they have improved the FBX export and the collection of textures for obj exports (which failed every time in Poser 11), I have no need to purchase Poser 12. If they have improved those such that they actually port to Blender, I would buy it as it would significantly improve my workflow.

Go here, download and read. It's not entirely correct, but close enough. Then decide on using Superfly. Frankly, materials are a ton easier in Superfly as well.

I use it in preference to the fitting room. It's not perfect by any means, but it is the most generally reliable tool I have found, including wardrobe wizard.
Thread: QuadroRTX? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just an observation which I can't test but others might be able to contribute to; The render time issue for my system between my old GTX 970 and the new RTX 2070 matches the calculation times if the number of processors in the RTX is halved. Perhaps there is something in the architecture that is having Poser only see half the cores. I know my system checking software (Speccy) only sees half the memory, whereas the benchmarking software sees all of it.
Maybe the others having slowdowns could do a time to render check and compare the results with their older cards as if the Turing cards have only half the listed cores?
Anyway, like I said, just a random observation. Could just be a coincidence.

Cheers for that. I did briefly contemplate leaving the 970 in below the 2070, but the MSI 970 needed 2 8 pin power sockets, and my PSU only had 2 spare for the pcie slots... it was the 970 or the 2070, and every other piece of software I have benefited from the upgrade... We'll probably get an update for the 20 series just as the 30 series are released...

Thread: Poser Pro 11.3 Released | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just upgraded my system. Went from Windows 7 and a GTX 970 to windows 10 and an RTX 2070. Same CPU in both, an i7 hexacore. Game fps more than doubled, Blender render times went from 2.5 hrs to 40 minutes on a test scene. Loaded a scene from Poser that had taken 12 and a half hours to render and... I stopped the render after 11 and a half hours as the render was only 62% complete. How on Earth can a 2070 be seen as 2/3rds as powerful as a 970?

I seem to recall you stepped back some due to healthy issues. I seriously hope this enthusiasm for the new Poser indicates that your health has improved and you are feeling better. (I also hope your previous issues weren't caused by the old Poser...) In any case, it is nice to see you still around, Snarly!

For the reasons given, 'integration' with Blender isn't possible. However Blender is moving to implement USD for file transfers (USD being universal scene description). It's a Pixar system that would allow working between different software in a common workflow. Essentially, if Poser also got USD you could import whole scenes into Blender or just about anything else that uses it. From what I have seen, the issue so far has been poor maintenance of the file transfer formats (like FBX) so that things don't move nicely. Hopefully USD might come a step closer to a common transfer platform.
Here's the problem, and maybe Renderosity will be better, but Poser's development schedule sucks. It's all nice and good that Blender has USD, but how long will it take before and IF Poser adopts it? How long ago was it that Poser adopted Cycles? Has it improved? How long ago was it that Poser adopted the Hair room? Has it improved? How long have people been asking Poser for a collapsed hierarchy editor, or instances, or a number of other wishes? If I had only one wish to ask Renderosity/Bondware for at this point in time it would be to get on a DECENT development schedule and STICK to it!
Firstly, Blender doesn't have USD yet. Secondly, this thread is about the new Poser wish list. This is a wish. Thirdly, You're right. Blender's current development cycle is aiming for a new release every 3 to 4 months. I'm not expecting to see Poser 12 for another 2 years. By then it will be Blender 2.87 or so, and who knows what it will be capable of. However, if Blender is looking at USD that means it is open source. Therefore no license requirements for Poser. It is also intended to be able to integrate lots of software so should (has to) work regardless of the release schedules for 3DS, Maya, C4D etc. Pixar are not stupid. I doubt very much that Poser will be able to update cycles to the point where it can match Blender for exactly the reasons you gave, the update cycle, and even if you did you're then paying $200 for a watered down version of Blender? The reason I hope for USD (or similar) is to play to Poser's strengths; it is MUCH better at figure manipulation than Blender is (at present), and actually has a functional library (Blender doesn't and I HATE DAZ's one that lists by creator rather than content). I've largely stopped using Poser other than to set up figures and move them into Blender. If all they do is 'fix' Superfly I wouldn't be buying it because it doesn't help my workflow. Make it easy to move whole scenes into Blender to access the faster render times, instancing, physics etc and maybe I would. So, to reiterate, it is MY wish for Poser 12.

Thread: Lighting indoor scene with emissive image outside. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I only have to open Studio for its library to fall apart. I need to re-run the metadata thingy every time, and it still can't find the so called 'smart content'. I've had it on my system for years, updated it so far as 4.8, and have never yet managed to complete a single scene, let alone render it. Hence my preference for Poser, quirks and all. Blender makes far more sense than Studio ever will.
Thread: Saving the results to the library | Forum: Virtual World Dynamics
So, in a complex scene with multiple characters interacting I need to pose a figure, save the pose, open a new scene and load that figure, set frames for an animation from one pose to the pose from the scene, run the sim, save that scene, open the first scene, delete the character in question then import (merge) the animation scene. Do that with every character in the scene... An alternative I have yet to get working is to spawn a prop from the frame of the sim I am interested in and substitute that clothing item for the original, but I keep losing the morph (it just comes out as a prop of the original in default position). So what is your process wimvdb? It sounds like the shortest path to what I need...
Thanks all for the replies, BTW
