first off DONT install ...just get the zip ~ extract to a fav place (mine goto c:blender just avoid program files )
make a folder for all addons , open blender preffs and set addons folder you just made as default
for extra protection save a "startup.blend" then if you forget to hit copy preffs just open "startup.blend" with load UI ticked
keep at least 2 or 3 older blenders ready to use ;-) sometimes addons can take a while to get updated ......... doing something in an older version then appending to new blender can save time and hairpulling lol
ps I had much the same reaction as unbroken ;-) [DONT KNOCK THE BLENDER rofl] but I've seen maxM around and about and knew (s)he didn't mean it THAT way lol and to be fair if I go in a max forum and just smell of blender I'd need a Kevlar jacket ;-)
Hey Heddheld
The suggestion by lobo3433 of updating from the splash screen worked with the exception of the theme of which I have downloaded and installed, but I will make note of your suggestion and grab the zip file and not the installer.
You mentioned about
open blender preffs and set addons folder you just made as default, I looked all around the user preference menu and couldn't see how to do that.
How do I do that please ?
Thread: Blender 2.74 Released Today! | Forum: Blender
Sorry if this has been asked before.
I had V 2.72, I had a theme I liked installed, some specific shortcut keys set up, and some add ons installed and set-up.I downloaded and installed V 2.73, but when I opened Blender all of the above disappeared and I had to go through the whole process of setting Blender back up to the way I had it.
I have just downloaded V 2.74 but am reluctant to install it for fear of losing all of the above again.
So my question is;
Is there a way or option where I can basically save the current Blender environment and load it into the new install of Blender? Thanks in advance
Hello Pipp44 Usually when you first start a newly installed version of Blender you get the splash screen and and there is an option to copy previous settings when click on the button do give it a few seconds it will appear like things have frozen but depending on the complexity of your previous setting it might take a few seconds to copy them over. And Theme's do not update with new version sometimes they work but when ever there is a Blender Version update you usually have to go see if the theme maker has updated the theme for the current version since themes like add-on can be created by others who are not part of the dev team for Blender. Hope this helps
Good Luck
Thanks Lobo3433 will go give it a go

Thread: Selecting the unseen | Forum: Blender
by shaded I assume you mean solid ?
hit the button shown on pic and you can select back faces/verts etc. too
Yes sorry, I did mean solid.
I don't want to select the back faces, verts edges etc, I want to select either the Right or Left faces without rotating the scene, it seems that it can only be done in Wireframe, (but at least I learned the hotkey Z to toggle wireframe mode:)
Thanks again guys
Thread: Selecting the unseen | Forum: Blender
mmmm well if you went wireframe (z) it would have selected the back verts too
or you could hit the button next too the select [vert'edge'face] and it will let you select "back" verts etc {can be annoying lol }
keppel's way is easiest .......most of the time but its good to know other ways ;-)
** Hey heddheld**
** I found that by selecting wire frame you can select the unseen faces on the side, but doesn't work in shaded mode though.**

**** Thank you all for the replies.

Sounds like your approaching this the wrong way. It would be simpler to rotate your view until the face you want to select is in the foreground and then just click on it to select it. There are lots of different ways of making selections. If you click on the "select" button on the bottom toolbar you will see the range of options you have. If you are using a reference picture as a background image assigned to your front view for example you will quickly find that you are unable to model something without changing views. Just rotate your view as you need to in order to make your face selections then return to your front view (numpad1) to follow your reference picture for the extrusion.
Hey Keppel,
I did know about this method of rotating the view until the faces I wanted came into view for selection, but I was asking if it possible to select the faces without rotating the view, It was originally a Hexagon modelling tutorial I got from a magazine which came with a free copy of Hexagon, the Side and Top reference images and a vid.
You had to rotate the view in hexagon as well to select the faces.
I have watched a couple of tutorials on MODO and you can select the unseen faces by Lasso or Box select without rotating the view, I was wondering if Blender did it.
I just opened Hexagon and found out that you can select the unseen faces (didn't think it could be done, been doing it the long way)

Hope I'm understanding the question correctly... if I am, you might try:
-- [CTRL] [TAB], chose vertex
-- then do your box-select of that right side
-- [CTRL] [TAB], chose faceYou'll find that just that right-side face is selected, and no other.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I started a new scene got to the selection stage and followed your instructions
[CTRL] [TAB], chose vertex
then do your box-select of that right side
Only the verts that the box touched got selected not the back ones.
[CTRL] [TAB], chose face
Everything got deselected.
What am I missing?

Any tut would be much appreciated, Youtube or PDF is fine, Youtube is preferred though.
I still struggle with the DTE and all the options therein :)

Quote - Excellent I am pleased to inform you I have uploaded the Hdr and bsk files for the Galaxy Backdrop and I am planning on making Nebula and Realsitic Stars close up like the sun and I am also hoping to make Super Nova Backdrops. I hope you will all like them. NOTE: this is my first attempt at a Galaxy Backdrop and it may not be as sharp as it could be but I am also giving the hdr file and original image made in Elements 9 so you can improve if it is a bit fuzzy The hdr file seemed to save when it felt like it.
Karl
Sorry for being a bit dumb, but where would I find these giveaways ?
thanks in advance

sounds good to me :)
Thread: Exporting textures with file | Forum: Blender
Quote - If I remember correctly, the mtl file simply refers to the location of the textures. You'll have to copy/move the texture files to the directory specified in the mtl (You can open it with a text editor and see.)
Thats what I believe as well, I looked at the mtl file and I can't find the line that indicates the location .
It renders ok in Blender but I cannot get it to work in Bryce, looks like I will have to ungroup the file and load the textures one at a time.
But it dows have me confused, I always beleived that the OBJ file always looked at the mtl file.
Thanks again
